Chapter 704: Five Six Seven - The problematic Buddha
"Boring!"
Shaking his head, Jiang Chen didn’t take the denunciation and insults from the Buddhas to heart. These were just the impotent fury of some losers, nothing worth getting angry about.
Ignoring the voices of the Buddhas, Jiang Chen took a step forward, headed towards the apex of the Spiritual Mountain. There, the five Buddhas bowed their heads, all of them looking at Jiang Chen.
What the five Buddhas were thinking, Jiang Chen didn’t know, but he knew what he was thinking – to eliminate the five Buddhas, seize this illusory world and let it become the nourishment for the birth of the gods of Spiritual Mountain.
"Insolent!"
"Impudent!"
"Jiang Chen, you’re courting death!"
Seeing Jiang Chen disregard them and move forward by himself, the Buddhas grew more enraged. Someone took the lead and suddenly they all made their move.
Radiant light blossomed from each of their hands, forming various powerful Divine Abilities to bombard Jiang Chen.
However, in the next moment, something that shocked the Buddhas happened.
They saw that those Divine Abilities, as soon as they neared Jiang Chen, suddenly lost all their power and directly turned into nothingness.
One of the Buddhas roared in anger, manifesting a radiant Golden Body of ten feet high, lifting his demon subduing staff, and smashed it towards Jiang Chen’s head.
However, as soon as this Buddha neared Jiang Chen, his body began to become illusory and then like the previous Divine Abilities, it directly and mysteriously disappeared.
This scene terrified the remaining Buddhas. Seeing Jiang Chen approaching was like avoiding plague. They all retreated backwards, not daring to approach within three feet of him.
While the Buddhas of Spiritual Mountain seem to exist, in reality, they were already dead.
The reason why they were standing in front of Jiang Chen without a hint of abnormality was because the world they were in was the Realm of Nothingness.
The Realm of Nothingness gave them the semblance of existence, making them appear as living as normal people, but in essence, they were artificial, merely a phantom shadow.
And Jiang Chen was genuinely existing.
No matter how powerful an illusory shadow is, how can it possibly harm the genuinely existing Jiang Chen? They couldn’t even get close to him.
Once they got close to him, they would be affected by his genuine aura, influencing their existence’s foundation, and they would disappear.
In modern society, no matter how powerful a character on television is, they can’t jump out and hurt people, they pose no threat at all.
Spiritual Mountain was vast and high, far as the eye can see. Mortals could spend a whole lifetime without being able to walk from the foot to the top of the mountain.
However, Jiang Chen crossed such a distant distance in a few steps, easily climbed to the top, and arrived in front of figures like the Buddha and others.
This was the greatness of practicing, to make the impossible possible.
"You’ve arrived!"
Looking at Jiang Chen in front of him, there was no confusion on the face of the Buddha, as if he had expected his arrival.
"All of you retreat. You have not cultivated to the Dao Venerable Realm, you cannot transform the illusion into reality. Your bodies and power are all illusory, how can you harm the real Jiang Chen?"
At this time, the Great Sun Buddha also spoke. There was no anger in his words as Jiang Chen had imagined, he just ordered others to retreat.
Innate Dao Sovereign is an extremely powerful realm.
When one’s strength reaches this realm, to a certain extent, they can be said to be capable of anything, deserving to be called the incarnation of the Great Dao, possessing the ability to alter time and space, and even heaven and earth.
The realm of the Innate Dao Sovereign is too high, their power too strong. Even without practicing the Way of the True Illusion, their power could naturally seep into nothingness, possessing the might to refine falsehood into truth.
In other words, for an Innate Dao Sovereign, even if they were in the Realm of Nothingness, they still had a certain level of reality and possessed the power to interfere with reality.
The Buddhas of Spiritual Mountain couldn’t harm Jiang Chen, but the Innate Dao Sovereign of Spiritual Mountain could. The five Quasi-Saint level Great Buddhas, of course, could as well.
Sneaking a glance, Jiang Chen found that the strength of this illusory Spiritual Mountain was weaker than he had imagined. Not all the Buddhas were there.
For instance, of the nine Quasi-Saints of Buddhism, only five were present. Among the several dozen Quasi-Saints of Buddhism, only thirteen were here, familiar figures like the Four Great Bodhisattvas, Kujusun Buddha and others, Jiang Chen didn’t see them.
Obviously, they weren’t here for some reason. This discovery allowed Jiang Chen to breathe a sigh of relief. The fewer powerful figures in Buddhism, the less pressure he would have. The battles to come would also be easier.
"Jiang Chen, aren’t you satisfied with obtaining Spiritual Mountain? Do you still want to exterminate all of us before you’re content?"
The Buddha’s attitude surprised Jiang Chen a bit. It was not accusations or threats, but rather a hint of sadness, and within that sadness, there was even a hint of submission.
That wasn’t right. The current situation was clear. The strength of the Buddha and others was undoubtedly greater than that of Jiang Chen. If someone were to surrender, it should be Jiang Chen, not the Buddha.
So, was the Buddha acting like this because he had some sort of plot in mind?
With doubts in his heart, Jiang Chen didn’t choose to act immediately, but instead said to the Buddha, "Buddha, Spiritual Mountain is now a thing of the past, you people of the past should also become a thing of the past."
"This is not only my opinion, but also the will of all beings in the Xiniuhe Continent. They are living well and happily now, they don’t wish to return to their previous days of fear and uncertainty."
"So, Buddha, you should understand what I mean. To resolve the worries of the beings in Xiniuhe Continent, I have no choice but to make you all disappear completely."
Jiang Chen’s words were filled with an imposing righteousness. Buddha, having heard his words, couldn’t refute them, he could only fall into silence.
After all, the living conditions of the beings under their rule in Xiniuhe Continent were apparent to everyone. The demons nurtured by the Spiritual Mountain were leading comfortable lives. As for all the other living creatures, it was better not to mention them. There was absolutely no room for justification.
Buddha was silent for a moment, then he continued, "Indeed, we were in the wrong when it came to the matter of the Xiniuhe Continent’s beings, but we have already paid the price, all have perished. Shouldn’t this be over now? There’s no need for you to push us so relentlessly, intending to eradicate us all."
There’s something wrong, very wrong!
Buddha’s attitude made Jiang Chen more suspicious. Was he plotting something? Even if Buddha and his fellows have perished, leaving only a fraction of their strength in the Realm of Nothingness.
But even a lean camel is bigger than a horse, even a weak Quasi-Saint is still a Quasi-Saint. Not to mention that they outnumber Jiang Chen, so why would they be afraid of him?
Buddha is showing weakness repeatedly, either there is some plot, or they have encountered some problem.
With doubt in his heart, Jiang Chen coldly said, "Buddha, you jest. There’s no concept of ’all is settled with death’ in the world of cultivation. Unless you have truly and utterly vanished, with no chance of revival."
"Otherwise, the karma between you and the beings of Xiniuhe Continent would need a long time to be cleared up. The calamities they have suffered can’t be settled by just one of your deaths."
Once Jiang Chen finished speaking, he prepared to make a move, ready to expose whatever plot they might be harboring.
To be honest, Jiang Chen really wasn’t afraid of Buddha in the Realm of Nothingness, he was invincible there.
He had just tested earlier that the power of the Human Path held absolute suppression over the willpower of all beings. Once the power of the Human Path erupted, no matter how strong the willpower of all beings was, they would have to submit and flow in its direction.
And what did this signify?
The willpower of all beings is the foundation of the Realm of Nothingness, but the power of the Human Path could rule over the willpower of all beings. This meant that once Jiang Chen used the power of the Human Path, the entire force of the Realm of Nothingness would be under his control.
Buddha and the others were quite powerful, but the Realm of Nothingness which they had been controlling for countless years was not weak either. He was confident that even a Quasi-Saint wouldn’t be a match for him with the power of an entire realm on his side.
Such immense power should make it easy to suppress the few fallen Quasi-Saints like Buddha.
"Sigh!"
From Jiang Chen’s words, Buddha sensed his determination. He let out a sigh with a helpless tone,
"Since Lord Buddha has made up his mind to eradicate us completely, then don’t blame us for not showing mercy!"
"Why haven’t you all taken action?"
As soon as Buddha’s words fell, the remaining Buddhas, who had been silent and indifferent, suddenly took action.
They stood in all four directions, encircling Buddha in the center. A terrifying aura began to rise from their bodies, slowly merging together.
Suddenly, a Buddha’s light that transcended past, present, and future emerged, carrying an aura of extermination. It spread around, ready to obliterate everything.
"What is...?"
"The Great Demise of Ten Thousand Buddha’s Light?"
Jiang Chen carefully avoided this Buddha light and hesitantly said. The Great Demise of Ten Thousand Buddha’s Light, this was the unique skill of Jieyin Saint. It was said to obliterate all things in the world and return the Prehistoric World to Chaos.
This was a supreme divine power, possessing the ability to destroy the heavens and the earth.
Normally, Jiang Chen would have taken out Tao Jian and fled as soon as he saw this. But at this moment, as he saw the encroaching light of oblivion, his face showed a strange expression.
This was truly a power of oblivion, and there was no doubt about the divine power, but the strength it was showing was somewhat weak compared to reaching the level of a Quasi-Saint.
If it was in the outside world, this force could easily inflict heavy damage on Jiang Chen, but in this Realm of Nothingness, it could not harm him.
Why was the power of the Buddha’s light so weak?
Jiang Chen was surprised. This was a supreme divine power jointly launched by the five Quasi-Saints of Buddhism. Logically speaking, even if it couldn’t destroy the heavens and the earth, it should be enough to threaten the Great Divine Transcendents.
So, why was it behaving like this?
Confused, Jiang Chen dodged the approaching Buddha’s light while gazing at Buddha and the others.
"Hahaha!"
Looking at them, Jiang Chen seemed to have discovered something. He suddenly burst into laughter and taunted Buddha and the others:
"Good and evil will always be rewarded, Heaven’s Dao prefers reincarnation. Look up and you’ll see, Cangtian spares no one."
"Even if you all have become Buddhas, you can’t escape from this karma. Now that retribution is at hand, how do you feel? Do you regret anything in your hearts?"
As soon as Jiang Chen’s words fell, the faces of the five Buddhas changed, they all looked at him with a disgruntled expression.
