Chapter 674: 539 Buddhas and Demons mix, it’s hard to distinguish truth from falsehood.

At the same time, atop the Spiritual Mountain in the West, the Tathagata Buddha suddenly felt a sensation and opened his tightly shut eyes. The sight he saw was Jiang Chen’s face with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.

In an instant, the Tathagata Buddha closed his eyes again, pretending as if nothing had happened.

Given the crucial moment for Buddhism, even if Jiang Chen only kicked over his Buddha statue, or even if he destroyed his Buddha statue completely, the Buddha would endure it.

What’s there to be angry about over just a statue of Buddha?

Jiang Chen is still young, he is still a child, to hold a grudge against him will only make one seem petty.

He’s still young, too young to be worth getting angry over.

With his eyes tightly shut, the Buddha mumbled in his heart. He attributed the incident to Jiang Chen’s young age and recklessness, thinking that as an elder, he should not be bothered by it.

With this thought, the Buddha’s mood improved significantly. At the same time, he breathed a sigh of relief, thanking goodness that Jiang Chen only smashed the Buddha statue and did not wreak havoc in Great Thunderclap Temple.

If that had happened, the trouble would have been enormous.

The current Great Thunderclap Temple is only an illusion created by a Divine Ability and cannot withstand a battle at the Taoist Master Level.

If Jiang Chen were to fight here, in just a moment Great Thunderclap Temple would reveal its true form and turn into ruins.

In that case, the reputation of Buddhism would be completely lost. People wouldn’t say that the Great Thunderclap Temple was still under repair, they would say that Great Thunderclap Temple was destroyed twice in as little as a hundred years.

There are too many people in this world who want to see Buddhism ridiculed, to the point where even if Buddhism wanted to retaliate, they couldn’t catch up with them all.

...

The Buddha statue collapsed, but the Buddha showed no reaction, which was within Jiang Chen’s expectations. He turned around, smiled at the crowd behind him, and asked, "Blasphemy? Did I do that? Where is Buddha’s retribution?"

The crowd around was dumbfounded. They had seen people with great courage, but never as bold as this. That was the Golden Body of the Buddha, which he dared to knock over. Did he not fear death?

Someone pointed at Jiang Chen, stuttering, "You...you knocked over the Golden Body of the Buddha, you’re so brave. You will receive karmic retribution, you’ll go to hell..."

Others ran crying to the Buddha statue, trying to stand it back up. Some even drew their weapons and charged at Jiang Chen, intending to kill him.

"Madman, take that!"

The man shouted loudly. Unfortunately, he hadn’t even reached Jiang Chen when he was slapped aside by his own master and fell to the ground, unable to get up for a long time.

It was clear that the abbot, also known as the old monk from before, had put a lot of effort into his slap.

"Alituo Buddha, the Buddhist door is a place of tranquility, it’s not a place for the arbitrary use of weapons or aggression. You must not disturb the Buddha."

After slapping away the monk, the old monk chanted a Buddhist phrase, then slowly walked over to Jiang Chen, fell to his knees before him, put his hands together and said earnestly, "Being able to see you is the greatest honor of my life."

"Praise the Great Virtue Great Power King Buddha, holy and supreme, possesses boundless wisdom and strength, subdues all demons, survives all disasters."

Several hundred years had not been spent on a dog’s body after all. The old monk identified Jiang Chen’s origin and knew that the visitor was the true Buddha, so he knelt down on the ground in submission.

When the others saw the old monk do this, they were shocked and also quickly knelt down, shouting, "We didn’t know the King Buddha had descended. We have offended the Buddha, please forgive us, Buddha."

Everyone was stunned, how could they have imagined that this young man, who looked merely handsome, would turn out to be the legendary Great Virtue Great Power King Buddha.

About the Great Virtue Great Power King Buddha, common people didn’t know much except that he was a King Buddha that had only emerged a hundred years ago. He was the most ferocious of all Buddhas, known for his punishment of evildoers, and held the command of the Buddhist precepts.

Any evildoer, regardless of their status or origin, whether they were demons or Buddha’s disciples, if seen by him, were to be cast into the Buddha Hell to suffer endless torment.

This is the Sinful Buddha, who punishes transgressions with severity, unrivaled in Buddhism.

Buddhist disciples become fearful at the mention of his name. However, for mortals, when they hear that Jiang Chen is the Great Brightness King Buddha, fear mixes with a touch of fervor in their eyes.

After all, ever since the establishment of Buddhism, the only group daring enough to eliminate demons at the foot of the Spiritual Mountain has been the lineage of the Great Brightness King Buddha.

The whole world knows that two hundred years ago, the Great Brightness King Buddha epiphanized in the Xiniuhe Continent. He transformed into the Great Brightness King and the Great Majestic Heavenly Dragon Bodhisattva and established the lineage of the Great Majestic Heavenly Dragon Temple.

From then on, a new sound echoed throughout the Xiniuhe Continent – the dragon chant of the Great Majestic Heavenly Dragon. Wherever there was demonic havoc, there would be the dragon chant of the Great Majestic Heavenly Dragon.

Among all the sects of Buddhism, only the lineage of the Great Majestic Heavenly Dragon Temple could eliminate demons in the Xiniuhe Continent, which gives you an idea of the popularity of the Great Brightness King Buddha among the general public.

Previously, it was Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara who saved people from suffering. Now, it is the Great Brightness King Buddha who performs the same duty.

Unsurpassed wisdom, unsurpassed power, conquering all demons, and overcoming all tribulations – these words embody the authority of the Great Brightness King Buddha.

"Rise, everyone. From now on, do not bow when you see me or when you enter my temple and see my statuette. There is no need to bow, no need to offer gold or silver, and no need to make a golden statue of me.

"Whether made of clay or wood, these are just material things, they make no difference."

"Gold and silver mean no more to me than dirt and sand. If you wish to worship me, sincerity of heart is enough. If you wish to seek my protection, not doing evil is enough."

As the saying goes, sincerity brings miracles, and the more sincere you are, the purer the willpower you generate. Thus, the strength that comes from genuflection is no match for the force that springs from the heart.

As for encouraging all beings to do good, Jiang Chen never insists too much. His bottom line is very low, one does not have to do good in life, just avoid doing evil!

If everyone in the world refrained from doing evil, there would be far less sin and many more happy families.

"This..."

People hesitated upon hearing this.

They had never seen a Buddha who didn’t want gold or silver before.

Seeing the crowd’s silence, Jiang Chen continued, "A true Buddha would guide all beings, save them from suffering, and lead them towards liberation. Do you think such a Buddha needs gold or silver?"

"To a true Buddha, the smiles of sentient beings are far more valuable than any amount of gold or silver."

"Only demons delight in gold and silver, they force followers to sell all their assets to build golden statues for themselves, for their enjoyment."

"Only demons find happiness in the suffering of sentient beings."

"In the present-day Xiniuhe Continent, there are many heavenly demons pretending to be Buddhas for the purpose of accumulating wealth."

"As the Mahayana teachings say, our hearts stray without a lord and seek external validation. We sculpt idols from mud and wood, devote ourselves to illusions, serve demon kings and ghost demons. We dress as the Buddha should, act like Bodhisattvas, worshippers, monks and nuns, but all of these are demons. We build temples and pagodas, manipulate people’s property to create bad karma. All of the above are the antics of demons."

"Demons are rampant, they will not only impersonate the Buddha but will also mimic the various Bodhisattvas, monks, and nuns from Spiritual Mountain."

"With true and false Buddha’s all mixed up, making discerning the genuine from the fraudulent difficult, people can no longer distinguish between true Buddhist scriptures from the false."

"As a result, in the Xiniuhe Continent, many Buddhist disciples study false scriptures unknowingly, thinking they are genuine Buddhist teachings, and spare no effort to accumulate gold and silver to build golden statues for the Buddhas."

"Little do they know, they have stepped upon the Demonic Way."

"Poxun once said to the Buddha, ’In the Age of Dharma Decline, my offspring will don your robes, violate your teachings...’"
