Chapter 85: The Quarrel

Chapter 85: The Quarrel

In the hushed darkness of the room, Chris emerged from the bathroom, the faint glow of the nightlight barely illuminating his path. His eyes settled on the bed, where the devil lay in peaceful slumber, the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest a soothing backdrop. Chris felt a flutter of contentment at the sight, appreciating the serenity that often eluded his hectic life.

Chris has spent quite a long time inside the bathroom, not only because he had to dry his hair but also for a very obvious reason. After getting teased like that, there was no way he could have easily stepped out, acting like nothing happened.

He remained in there, trying to relieve himself with his hands. One hand was unseen while the other hand caressed his body, his eyes closed and his head falling back against the edge of the tub.

The thought of Sky walking in to find him in that position made him both weary and excited, keeping him on the edge.

He bit his lips, trying to muffle his moans as he let his wild imagination consume him.

Imagining he had gone further with the kiss and didn’t stop with only a peck. Imagining Sky had fallen deeper into the kiss and letting their tongues explore the depths of their mouths. Imagining his hands deep under Sky’s clothes, exploring all the curves and dips he liked to hide underneath all those clothes.

And even now that he was staring at Sky sleeping on the bed, those fake memories came back.

Gently padding over to the bed, Chris hesitated, his mind waging a silent battle between joining Sky in the bed and using the couch instead since he wasn’t sure what he’d unconsciously do this time. He finally decided on the former and slid into bed in just his boxer briefs. The warmth of the covers enveloped him, and he found himself gazing at Sky’s peaceful expression, the faintest hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Leaning in closer, Chris whispered, "You asleep?"

From beneath the covers, Sky’s muffled response reached his ears—a sleepy affirmation that held an undeniable clarity. Chris couldn’t help but chuckle softly at the playful evasion, knowing well that Sky was wide awake. "You can’t fool me that easily," he teased, a trace of amusement colouring his tone.

A rustle of movement beside him signalled Sky’s acknowledgement, and Sky turned to look at him, asking, "Caught me, huh?"

Chris scoffed, a mixture of fondness and exasperation tugging at his lips. "Are you just going to sleep? You don’t want to do anything else?"

Chris swore it had been an innocent question. Since Sky usually asked them to see a movie, he was hoping maybe he would suggest it again instead of simply going to bed, but then the flirty glint in Sky’s eyes told him he was about to start his usual teases again, and he confirmed it when Sky asked in a soft, innocent voice, "What do you want us to do, Chris?"

"Must you always act and sound perverted every chance you get?" Chris asked lightly, making the boy laugh.

"Now, I am? I thought you were the one always flirting with me and trying to seduce me?" He pointed out.

"Well, I’m not in the mood for your games tonight."

Sky’s voice took on a teasing lilt as his eyes went up and down. "Oh? And what mood are you in, then?"

Suppressing a laugh, Chris rolled his eyes playfully. "Definitely not in the mood to seduce you."

Sky’s eyes gleamed mischievously. "Oh, really now? What a shame. I guess I must have come on too strong to make you give up, eh?" he winked.

Chris’s amusement waned, giving way to a sigh of frustration. "You’re impossible, you know that?"

Sky’s grin widened, his tone light and teasing. "Maybe. But you seem to like it."

"Says who?"

"Says your eyes," Sky said before he reached to touch the corner of Chris’s eyes, making him shut his eyes unconsciously.

"How pretty," Sky murmured, making Chris’s heart skip a beat as he opened his eyes to stare at him, both locking eyes.

Nah... this wasn’t normal.

Chris withdrew a bit from him to let him drop his hand, and then he propped his head on his hand, his gaze boring into Sky’s features as he finally asked the question that had been eating him up.

"What happened earlier today?" Before Sky could ask him what exactly he was asking him about, Chris added, "You didn’t kiss that girl during the game."

Sky’s gaze remained steady, his expression guarded as he replied nonchalantly, "I didn’t have to. She was dared. Not me."

Chris’s eyebrows knitted in confusion. "But you said kissing was no big deal."

Sky’s lips curled into a half-smile. "Doesn’t mean I want to kiss everybody."

A surge of frustration bubbled within Chris. Why was it always difficult to get the right answer from this boy?

"But then you embarrassed her. That’s not fair."

Sky’s eyes held a mixture of emotions as he retorted, "Life’s not always fair, Chris. You are lucky if you haven’t noticed."

His words held a deeper meaning that made Chris curious.

Chris shook his head as he grew more serious. "Why is it so hard for you to answer a simple question?"

Sky’s lips quirked in a half-smile, his eyes locking onto Chris’s with an intensity that sent a shiver down his spine. "Because sometimes the answers aren’t so simple."

Chris’s patience finally snapped, his frustration spilling over. "I’m serious. You deflect every question. It’s frustrating. Always hiding from the truth."

Sky’s gaze held Chris’s; the veil of playfulness had now been lifted, exposing the complexity beneath. "What truth are you hoping for, Chris?" He asked quietly.

Everything.

Why he was like this with him? Why he was the way he was. The kind of person he truly was. Why he had brushed off their kiss and claimed it was no big deal when he wasn’t the kind of person to kiss anyone easily?

Why he always flirted so intensely with him and even kissed his neck? And most importantly, if he truly thought Chris saw him as Rain or if he knew the truth and was pretending?

However, Chris could not bring himself to say anything, and neither did Sky, who just kept staring at him. The room was suddenly shrouded in an eerie silence until Chris swiftly changed the topic and instead asked, "Do you remember anything from last night’s party now? Anyone who might have given you that drink?"

Sky’s brow furrowed. He looked unprepared for this topic. After a moment, he shook his head. "No, not really. It’s all kind of hazy."

Chris’s frustration began to creep into his tone. "Sky, you were drugged last night. We need to find out who did it."

Sky’s response was nonchalant, and it irked Chris. "I don’t remember anything, Chris. Besides, what’s the point? It’s over now."

Chris’s patience was wearing thin, his concern clashing with Sky’s indifference. "The point is that someone intentionally drugged you, Sky! We should take this to the police."

Sky’s gaze turned stern, his voice firm. "No! We’re not involving the police or anyone for that matter."

Chris’s irritation flared, his voice rising in frustration as he sat up on the bed, glaring at him. "Why are you so nonchalant about this? Someone spiked your drink!"

Sky’s jaw clenched, and his eyes narrowed. "Because I said so, okay? Drop it."

Chris’s disbelief turned into anger, and his voice edged with a mix of exasperation and concern. "You care more about your reputation and what people think than your own well-being?"

Sky’s expression turned icy, his voice frigid as he retorted, "You don’t understand, Chris. Just leave it alone."

Chris’s anger bubbled to the surface, his frustration finally boiling over. "No, Sky, I won’t leave it alone! I care about you, damn it! I want to know who did this to you!"

Sky’s gaze locked onto Chris’s, his eyes revealing a myriad of emotions beneath his steely facade. He sighed, his voice softer now. "It’s not that simple, Chris. Just drop it, please."

Chris would have given in to his tone and the soft look in his eyes. But he was too annoyed to do that now. His voice was laced with bitterness, and his heart heavy with a mix of emotions. "You care more about protecting yourself than finding out who hurt you? That could have been anything! It could have been poison!"

"CHRIS!" He yelled, sitting up.

"I SAID IT’S FINE! I WAS THE DRUGGED ONE, NOT YOU!"

Chris looked at him with disbelief, and for a second, it seemed Sky regretted his outburst because he sighed and had an apologetic look in his eyes as he said it in a softer tone this time. "There are things you don’t understand."

Chris still stared at him. Too stunned to believe Sky had actually reacted this way. At once, he got down from the bed and took a pillow with him, heading to the couch to sleep there instead.
