Chapter 81: Do you want me tonight?

As Chris and Wilson made their way through the party, weaving past the enthusiastic revellers to get to Rachel, he could not stop thinking about the text he had gotten and also Wilson’s words.

(You are so going to explain why he is hugging you by the lake after claiming he doesn’t like you.)

"And you think this guy does not have feelings for you? He is very... sus."

Yes. Sky was indeed suspicious, but he didn’t want to overthink things. He was at least relieved to know that Sky was still sane, even though he was being creepy in his corner.

However, before they could get to Rachel, Wilson nudged Chris’s arm and pointed towards the bonfire area, exclaiming, "Look at that!"

Chris followed Wilson’s gaze, and that’s when he saw it—the truth or dare game in full swing.

Of course, high school or college parties were never complete without the legendary truth or dare game.

In the centre of the circle, Sky stood with a mischievous grin on his face. A girl stood in front of him, her cheeks flushed with excitement, ready to complete her dare. The atmosphere around the bonfire was electric as the crowd gathered, eager to witness the unfolding drama.

"Sky is going to kiss someone!" A boy yelled, calling the attention of the others as more people turned towards them, watching eagerly.

The chant of "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" echoed around the circle, and Chris looked in surprise, not even sure why he was surprised. Or maybe the feeling was something else other than that.

"So deja vu," Wilson muttered and turned to look at Chris.

Chris knew why he said that. It was similar to something that happened a few years ago. When he noticed the sympathetic look Wilson was giving him, he frowned and glared at him, trying so hard to act like he was unaffected by this, but both their attentions were pulled back to the ’event’.

As the girl leaned in to kiss Sky, Chris’s heart raced, but he couldn’t look away. His thoughts were a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. But there was one he could always tell. One he didn’t want to admit to. It was jealousy. There was also anger and irritation. Because what Sky had said earlier about kissing being normal continued to ring in his head.

The chant continued, and the girl leaned closer to Sky. But then, just as the girl’s lips were about to touch Sky’s, he swiftly turned his face away and went to grab a drink, chugging it down instead.

The crowd reacted with a mix of boos and pity, while some cackled loudly in amusement and some winced at the awkwardness of the situation.

As the girl stepped back, her disappointment evident, Chris couldn’t help but look at Sky with a mixture of so many different emotions all at once.

He had rejected it.

"That’s the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever witnessed. Damn!" Wilson breathed in surprise.

"It shouldn’t be. It was obvious he wouldn’t do it. I’m not sure why many people thought he’d kiss her." Rachel said as she came behind them.

That caught Chris’s attention, and he turned to face her.

"What does that mean?"

"What does what mean?" She asked in confusion.

"Why were you certain he wouldn’t kiss her?" Chris asked, interested.

"Didn’t I tell you already? The most charming thing about Sato is how reserved he is. If he goes about kissing every girl at parties, he’d just be like every other guy out there."

"Wait... hold on..." Chris’s brows were furrowed as he tried to make sense of what he was learning about Sky.

Sky had said kissing was something normal. He sounded like it was something he’d do with people freely.

"You mean to say you’ve never seen or heard Sky kiss somebody before?" Chris asked, trying to wrap his head around all this.

"My boy is easily grossed out. Why would he go about kissing strangers?" Henry asked in amusement as he approached them from behind, throwing a friendly arm around Chris’s shoulder.

If humans had antennas, Chris’s would have been standing by now. Something was wrong somewhere.

He wasn’t overthinking this.

He had kissed Sky, and Sky had mentioned it was a normal thing. Yet, the same person avoided this girl just now, and he had just found out from both Rachel and Henry that it was in fact not a normal thing.

There was no way he was going to let this be. Sky had an explanation for him. But the thing was, he wasn’t exactly sure how or what to ask him.

"Care to join us for some ping pong?" Henry asked, bringing their attention back to him.

"Not exactly. I’ve got to leave now. Came here for them." He looked at Wilson and Rachel, noticing how the former was giving him a questioning look.

"Alright then. See you when next I see you."

He let go of Chris and turned to Wilson, asking, "Seen your phone yet?"

"Oh! Not yet. Where is he?"

Henry chuckled and pointed at the far end to their right.

"I’ll be quick," Wilson said to Chris before he left with Henry in a hurry.

"I really need to pee, so give me a minute, okay?" Rachel said to him and left in a hurry, making Chris look at her suspiciously. It didn’t look like she was leaving for that. But he couldn’t ask her further since she had already left.

Alone now, his eyes went back to the last spot where he found Sky, but Sky was no longer there. His eyes searched around for Sky, and he easily found him. However, Sky looked like he was looking around for something. Or someone.

"What are you searching for?" Chris texted instead of asking the question that was bothering him.

Sky looked down at his phone, and it seemed he had read his text before he looked around one more time, but Sky’s eyes did not find him. Then he began to type, and Chris received his message.

"Secretly checking me out?"

Chris rolled his eyes. "Says the guy who always knows what I am always up to."

"You didn’t respond to my last text."

"Because I do not need to."

"Why?"

Was he seriously asking him that right now? Chris ignored the question and simply texted, "Do not drink."

"Isn’t that already too late?"

"Do not drink more!"

Chris saw him snicker.

Bloody bastard.

Sky began to type again, and the message came in.

"Do you want me tonight?"

Even though all around was clouded and noisy, all sounds seemed to be blocked out at that moment, and Chris read the message over and over.

Do you want me tonight?

What the hell was that supposed to mean?

Not sure how he was supposed to respond to that, he sent three question marks instead.

"???"

He looked at Sky.

The boy laughed.

He legit laughed like he was finding it funny.

Just wow!

Sky began to type again. "I mean... in your space. To share your room tonight. Again."

And then another message came.

"I liked it."

Okay... Sky seemed bent on making Chris go crazy. Otherwise, why was he texting him like this?

He liked it?

What exactly did he like?

Was it the room? Their time together? The cuddling? The... kiss?

Chris touched his neck self-consciously. Anyone staring at him would see not only how he was blushing but also the confusion on his face.

He began to type.

"You can if you want to." He responded to Sky’s message, hoping it sounded as nonchalant to Sky as he intended for it to sound.

Meanwhile, his heart was beating loudly. It was just insane.

He was eagerly looking forward to it. And most importantly, he wanted a chance to ask Sky some questions face-to-face.

Sky didn’t respond immediately. A boy was showing him something on his phone, and Sky nodded to it, saying something. The guy said something to him back and left to join another group. That was when Sky looked down at his phone and began to type.

Chris received the message.

"Do you want me to?" Sky’s message read.

It was so like Sky to answer questions like this. Always averting and asking questions of his own. This was why it was very difficult to understand him.

"Are you really questioning me or flirting with me?" Chris asked and looked up to gauge Sky’s reaction after sending the text.

Once again, Chris saw him laugh.

"I’ll drop by later then. What would you like to eat in particular tonight?"

You.

Chris quickly shook his head at the nasty thoughts that were flooding in before sending Sky another message.

"No."

"No what?" Sky replied almost immediately.

"I won’t leave you here." Chris sent.

He still had a bad feeling about what happened yesterday and didn’t want a repetition of it.

"You are worried about me," Chris responded.

"You’d be worried about me too." Sky sent to him before he added, "So start preparing to leave."

"I assure you that I’ll be good. You can leave first, and I’ll meet you there later." Sky replied, making Chris frown.
