Chapter 63: The phone call

Chapter 63: The phone call

Chris didn’t respond to Sky’s message immediately. He left it for when he returned to his dorm since he didn’t want to take his attention away from Rachel. However, he couldn’t fully give his attention to Rachel because the text still plagued his mind, and he wondered why Sky had sent him that. Was he apologizing again for what had happened? Why did it bother him so much?

When he was done making plans with Rachel for their outing tomorrow, he returned to his dorm, and as soon as he landed on the bed, he took out his phone to read the message again. He read it over and over again and then thought of what to text him. However, he didn’t text. Instead, he called Sky. Maybe if Sky heard how serious he was, he’d stop all this altogether.

He had thought the call would be missed and was just about to drop his phone when he found the seconds counting.

Sky had picked up.

He put the call on loudspeaker, waiting for Sky to speak, but he didn’t, so Chris broke the silence.

"Hello?"

"This is the first time," Sky spoke quietly, his sweet voice making Chris forget to speak for a second.

"First time, what?" Chris asked in confusion.

"First time we’re speaking on the phone."

Was it? Chris thought about it before he realized that it was indeed the first time.

"What are you apologizing for?" He asked instead, going straight to the point.

"I kinda feel awful about this whole thing," Sky answered, sighing deeply.

"I already told you it’s fine, didn’t I?"

"But does that make it fine? I’m worried about you."

"That sounds... romantic." Chris teased. He had a silly smile on his face and was gently biting his lip. He was glad Sky could not see him.

On the other hand, Sky was serious, and so was his tone as he said, "I’m serious right now. I don’t even know if I’m doing the right thing by leaving you all alone there."

"You should be worried about yourself, Sky. There is someone out there obsessed with you. I guess I’m fine as long as they don’t see me with you, but that’s not the case for you. You don’t know when they will appear right in front of you—"

"They will stop soon." Sky interrupted.

"And you are sure about this because?"

"It has happened before. This girl kept following me everywhere. It was sorted out."

Chris sighed. "At least you knew the girl, right? You don’t know this person. And you don’t know what they might do."

"It doesn’t matter."

Chris sighed again. This guy was very stubborn. "I guess you must have been getting this kind of weird attention since you were a child for you to be this relaxed."

Sky laughed quietly. "That’s not correct."

"What isn’t?"

"I wasn’t attractive as a child. So I certainly didn’t get this kind of attention."

"Oh really?" Chris sounded like he did not believe it. I mean, look at Sky. Look at his sister. It was obvious he had been a hottie even before he was born.

"For real. No one even bothered to look at me twice."

Chris still didn’t believe him.

"How so? You didn’t just turn into a sexy papcita one day, did you?"

"Hmm... I got involved in an accident a few years ago. So I had to put a lot of effort into the way I looked after that. Rain helped a lot too."

"Really?" Chris was surprised. It was the first time he learned about this.

Was that why he was always so into the attention he was getting and worried about his reputation? Did that, by chance, give him a kind of inferiority complex?

"What kind of accident was that? Was it serious?" Chris asked.

"It was kinda serious. I almost died and also damaged a kidney. I had to go through a series of surgeries." Sky answered casually.

"What? Are you for real?" Chris sat up, even more surprised at the fact that he was saying it lightly as if he were talking about something that wasn’t serious.

Sky laughed. "It’s all in the past now. I’m okay. You don’t have to sound so serious."

"I’m... sorry about that," Chris said sincerely. That must have been tough.

"Nah. It’s fine. Like I said... all in the past."

"I’m glad you survived," Chris said quietly.

"Me too. You wouldn’t have met a hot mess like me otherwise." Sky said in his usual smug tone, which made Chris roll his eyes but also laugh.

"Have you been well? Do you feed well?" Sky asked, his tone getting serious and concerned.

"I have. What about you?"

"I don’t know. I guess I have just been feeling bad that you miss me so much, so I couldn’t do much or eat well."

Chris laughed again. Crazy guy. Since he was looking for it, he’d have to give it to him.

"I miss you a lot." He teased in a flirty tone.

"I know you do, baby," Sky whispered.

Chris could hear the amusement in his tone. Of course, to Sky, it was all amusing, but for Chris, even though it was amusing, he still lowkey meant it.

He did miss him. Several times, he had stopped himself from going to Sky’s bed to breathe in his scent.

Even though it had only happened once, he missed the feeling of them in bed together. He was quite surprised that Sky had never mentioned it since then.

"Tell me about yourself," Sky said, pulling him out of his thoughts.

Well, that was quite random.
