Chapter 55: Livid

Chapter 55: Livid

"That wasn’t cool," Chris spoke in a serious tone.

"Chris, I assure you that they won’t be badly hurt. You can tell by how guarded our suits are. This is how the game works here. I’m sorry if no one told you."

Chris withdrew his hand. He didn’t have anything else to say to him. He knew he would be wasting his time.

"I hope we will do this again some other time," Ash said before Chris could enter the monitoring room, where they had to be checked.

"Do you think you’d be able to survive if we competed another time?" Chris asked him.

He hadn’t known the game was this crazy before he started. With this realization, he knew he was going to go after Ash crazily the next time this happened.

"Oh... is that a threat?" He asked while smiling.

Chris shrugged and was about to walk away when Ash interrupted him again!

"Come to my pool party on Friday. You will be my special guest."

Pool party? The last one he attended was hosted by him. It had been a while since he last did anything that fun.

"I may consider it." He said it in an indifferent tone and raised his brow when Ash laughed.

"You carry yourself in such an elegant way. I like it."

Whatever.

Chris thought to himself before walking away. But just as he got into the room, Ash entered and said to him, "Do not feel dejected about coming second place. You are going to be compensated properly. I’ll also share some benefits with you since it was quite entertaining competing against you."

"Not interested," Chris spoke dismissively and walked away from him, hoping this guy would let him be.

He had indeed been compensated for coming in second place, and his registration fee was reimbursed back to him.

He hadn’t known the feeling of earning money, so seeing that money gave him a sense of pride. It was the first time he earned some money by himself.

After an hour, he was done with everything. When he left to find Rachel, he was a bit surprised to have quite a number of people saying hello to him and waving at him.

So much for not wanting any attention in this place.

"That! Was insane!!" Henry exclaimed, appearing in front of him out of nowhere.

"I thought you didn’t come here," Chris said in confusion.

"No. I said I DO NOT compete. The one who avoids this place like a plague is Sato, over there." Henry pointed at Sky, who sat on the bleachers and had his hands folded. His face was so straight that he wasn’t even forcing any smiles at people who greeted him or waved at him.

"You almost drove him crazy with worry." He added.

Argh!

Was Sky having the ’I’m gonna kill Chris’ moment again?

His view of Sky was blocked when Noel, Rachel, and Collins also appeared in front of him, and Noel clapped a hand on his shoulder.

"Man! Keep this up, and you are going to be the next pro."

"Why did you have to get in front of his bike like that? That was crazy!" Rachel said in awe.

Collins simply handed him a bottle of soft drink. "For you. Cool." He said this before he turned and walked away like the weirdo that he was.

He didn’t concern himself with any of them. He just walked out and headed towards Sky, then sat down beside him.

Sky didn’t bother to look at him and just looked in the opposite direction like a grumpy old man.

Chris relaxed in his seat and looked ahead. He saw Rain chatting with a group of people. He could also see Emily in another corner, chatting.

It was impossible not to see Ash with the crowd around him. He had the same annoying smile on his face as he chatted with his ladies and fist-bumped with some guys.

His attention moved away from them to Sky when he noticed Sky was finally looking at him.

"I’m surprised you’re alive," Sky said as he took the drink from Chris to open it, then handed it back to him.

Sky was indeed fond of caring for others. Chris received the drink as he asked, "Were you expecting me to die?"

"I was expecting you to heed my warning and stay clear of that guy, but you had to fully indulge him and almost get yourself hurt!"

"I get it. You are pissed." Chris put his hand up. He didn’t want to fight right now.

"Pissed? I am livid!"

"He is, indeed. He lost money betting for you." Noel said as he got closer to them, laughing.

"What? Why?" Chris turned to look at Sky in surprise. "You said you were not betting on me."

"I guess he dislikes Ash too much to bet on him, even though that would have won him some money." Henry chipped in.

He disliked Ash? What was up between them? He had also noticed the exchange earlier when Sky came to him in that building.

"I’m done here," Sky said and stood up, carrying his backpack. "Need a ride?" He asked Chris while eyeing him.

"How are they supposed to follow us when the car is already filled up?" Noel reminded Sky.

"And who said you were returning with me?" Sky asked him.

"Wait, what? Then how are we supposed to go back?" Henry asked while looking at Sky like he had lost his mind.

"You won money, didn’t you? Pay a taxi." Sky said with a smile before he gestured with his head for Chris to follow him.

Chris looked at Noel, Henry, and Collins, not sure what to do.

"Enjoy it while it lasts. You are still new after all." Noel spoke to him lightly. But those words continued to resound in his head, reminding him that whatever way Sky was treating him wasn’t new, and he should never forget that.
