Chapter 39: See you later, pretty boy!

Chapter 39: See you later, pretty boy!

"Why are you acting like this to me?" Chris asked him, frowning.

"Like what?"

"Like... this!" Chris could not exactly find the right words to describe his behaviour.

"You expected an embrace when you came here?"

Even though he was being sarcastic, his face was still straight, and he looked like Chris was bothering him.

"Damn it, Sky! Why are you so bent on being difficult? Just stay in your room for fuck’s sake!"

"You’re going to be comfortable without me in your space, won’t you?" Sky asked him quietly.

"Yes!" Chris answered before he pondered the question and quickly shook his head. "No. I mean... Well, not really." He was lost.

Sky just stared blankly at him, then sighed and made to walk past Chris. Chris blocked his path and stood in front of him.

"I didn’t tell you to leave. I don’t even have any right to. It was you who suddenly started talking about moving this morning. It’s your room. You should stay."

Why did he sound like he was begging Sky to stay?

"Then what about you?" Sky inquired.

"I... I’ll get an apartment outside of school."

Sky scoffed. "You sound too confident for someone who’s here on a scholarship. And no, I am not mocking you. I’m only telling you that you cannot afford it, so I won’t let you." He said in a serious tone that got Chris sighing in frustration.

"Are you always like this?" Chris asked him.

"Like what exactly, Chris? You are in my way. I am a busy person." He said impatiently.

"Do you always not give people a chance to properly express themselves? You just put up this wall for no reason and want everyone to do only what you want."

Sky only let out a laugh and didn’t respond.

"Is that the real reason you do not live with your roommates for long?" Chris pushed.

"You really... do know how to say all the wrong things."

"Well, you didn’t leave me much choice."

"Okay. So I’m allowing you to express yourself. Go on."

Chris hated the fact that Sky had the upper hand in this conversation. He wanted to turn away and let him be. But at the same time, he didn’t want to. He had already come this far, and he wouldn’t back down. He had to win. And by winning, he meant making sure Sky changed his mind about leaving.

"I don’t want you to leave." He said to Sky.

Sky didn’t say anything immediately. He just stared at Chris for a moment before he turned and went to sit on one of the solid high tables in the room and spoke while crossing his arms,

"I do not take it that you missed me; that’s why you’re telling me this."

"Don’t be an idiot; I do not miss you." Chris almost laughed. At least Sky was back to his usual annoying self. It meant that it was working and that he was beginning to have the upper hand.

"I’m just saying that you do not have to move out."

"So what happened last night?" Sky asked in a prying tone.

Argh! Can everyone stop asking him? He didn’t want to talk about it!

"Seriously? You do not want to talk about it?" Sky guessed in disappointment by mainly looking at the expression on his face.

When he tried to stand up from the table, Chris quickly made his way to him and held him down by the shoulders, sighing.

"I wasn’t feeling too well." He realized he was standing very close to Sky, so he stepped back a bit.

"It was obvious. Was it because of how I looked?" Sky asked.

Chris was thankful he had mastered the act of hiding his shock from showing on his face because Sky’s question took him aback.

How... did he know that?

"It must have shocked you to see me look like that..."

"Uhm... I didn’t..."

"I actually thought your side of the country was more open-minded." Sky continued, not giving him any chance to say a word. At this point, Chris was completely lost. His mood had changed because of something else. But had Sky also noticed how he made him feel by looking like THAT?

"It was just a show, Chris. I’m not a crossdresser, or dragqueen or whatever. So you don’t have to be disgusted or worry about me jumping on you while you’re asleep. I won’t do that." He said with a gentle look in his eyes.

Wait... WHAT?

What was he talking about? Do they have a misunderstanding here?

"I didn’t... think you would." He said, still confused, before adding lightly, "Besides, I’m pretty sure I’m a lot stronger than you, so I didn’t worry about that."

Sky laughed that sexy laugh from the pit of hell, which Chris hated because it always made him smile.

"Do not bet on that." Sky joked. But then he seemed to realize he was not supposed to be joking about something like that because it made it sound very different.

"I mean... I didn’t mean I was going to jump... you. That is not what I was talking about. You... follow my train of thought, don’t you?" Sky stuttered.

Chris could not help but laugh as he nodded. Sky’s awkwardness was adorable. He wished he could see this forever.

Well, not forever. Just...

"You’re really pretty when you laugh like that," Sky said softly, and at once, Chris’s laughter stopped, and he looked at him with surprise.

"Wh-hat?"

"Don’t be so shocked." Sky comforted him and casually reached to brush out some stray strands of hair off Chris’s face and gently tucked them behind his ear.

Despite how very casual and normal his action was, it wasn’t to Chris, who just stood still in surprise and confusion.

"Compliments are easily dished out here. Get used to it, pretty boy." Sky winked at him.

Why did he find this interesting despite his brain sending the signals for him to reecho what Sky had just said and move away from him? Compliments were easily dished out here. He wasn’t special.

But the competitive part of him did not want to. Since Sky could do it casually, why couldn’t he?

Chris also reached for Sky’s hair and gently tucked it behind Sky’s ear as he said quietly, "And you are beautiful."

He swore he only wanted to mess around with Sky. He had wanted to tease him back.

But then they both locked eyes, with Chris’s fingers still lingering behind Sky’s right ear.

He couldn’t read Sky’s gaze, but the guy stared right back at him. And as cliche as it sounded, Chris was lost in that moment.

And was it in his head, or was Sky coming closer? His brain spiralled. Sky was indeed coming closer!

"Chris..." Sky whispered, blinking cutely. "You can... never beat me at this." He said it with a smirk before he stood up and went to pick up the serving basket in which he had placed the bottles of the shake he had made.

"See you later, pretty boy." Sky winked at Chris before leaving the room.

Chris just stood there, and when his brain finally returned to him, he let out an embarrassed laugh and used a hand to cover his face.

One day. He promised himself.

He wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but he knew he was going to beat Sky in his game one day.
