Chapter 155: "He is crazy about you."
Chapter 155: "He is crazy about you."
Chris winced. That... actually made a lot of sense. In their panic, they hadn’t thought things through. And now that Sinclair pointed it out, it seemed even more ridiculous. But none of that changed the fact that Sky had shoved Henry away before it could even happen.
"I won’t lie. I was a little taken aback. Or rather... a lot taken aback. I never pegged Sky as well... anything but straight. I doubt I even pegged him as straight. He was just too... I mean, he is a sweet guy. But there is just something about him that is very... I’m not sure how to explain it." He looked to be thinking.
Chris nodded slightly, unsure where this was going.
"Maybe unapproachable? Dark?" Sinclair offered, hoping it explained what he was trying to say.
"Maybe it was the reason I never considered him as a guy I might be interested in. So seeing him look at you like that and then kissing you?" Sinclair shook his head. "That was a plot twist I did not see coming."
Chris wasn’t sure how to react to all this. His intention was to come here and make this guy believe Sky was nothing but straight. But Sinclair was too smart to be deceived.
"Look, maybe that happened," Chris said, choosing his words carefully. "But Sky is still Sky—"
"And you’re still avoiding the real question," Sinclair interrupted. "What are you planning to say if anyone asks you about it? ’Cause let’s face it—Sky kissed you in front of a couple of people. Even if I didn’t spread it, someone else might have."
Chris frowned. "I haven’t... figured that out yet."
He tried to push away his unease. Rachel wouldn’t blab—she wasn’t that kind of person. As for Noel and Henry, Sky could handle them. He hoped.
Rain, however, was a different matter. There was something about her presence last night that unsettled him—the way she had looked at them.
Sinclair arched a brow. "Dude, you gotta be quick with these things. People love juicy stories, and this one’s got drama written all over it. A hot guy getting publicly kissed by his hot roommate? Yeah, that’s front-page gossip material. And when it’s Sato? Oh man, it would blow the entire city into chaos."
Chris groaned. "You’re not helping. And no, I don’t think that’s going to happen."
Sinclair smirked knowingly. "That wasn’t the first kiss between you two, was it?"
Chris’s heart skipped. He wanted to deny it but Sinclair interrupted again.
"And you told me last night you were taken. I don’t think my imagination is running wild if I make a few assumptions right now, is it?" Sinclair pressed, leaning forward.
"Clair, don’t make any wild assumptions," Chris warned. "I just wanted to make sure you wouldn’t tell anyone what happened. And I appreciate that you promised you wouldn’t."
Sinclair scoffed. "You’ve got it bad, don’t you?"
Chris shot him a glare. "Don’t start with that."
"I’m just saying," Sinclair said seriously, "you don’t travel across town in a private taxi and mop the floors of a guy you’ve only chatted with twice just to keep a secret—unless you’re tangled up in some serious feelings."
Chris leaned back, wishing he could argue. But it would be impossible to fool Sinclair.
"Anyway," Sinclair continued, standing up and grabbing their empty fruit plates, "the school would love to eat up a rumor like that about Sato. But I’m not into that kind of drama. If it makes you feel better, I’ll back you up on whatever story you come up with. But maybe—just maybe—you should think about talking to Sato instead of trying to cover everything up."
Chris didn’t respond immediately. But deep down, he knew Sinclair was right. This wasn’t going to blow over on its own. And he couldn’t keep running from it. Still, he wasn’t sure if Sky would be willing to speak with him—or if he’d just keep avoiding him like he always did.
"If you’re in no hurry, I’ll freshen up and drop you off on my way to the dorm," Sinclair offered.
Chris remained seated, lost in thought, but he nodded faintly.
****
The ride had been thankfully devoid of any talk about Sky. Sinclair, for all his teasing, seemed to know when to back off, keeping the conversation light and comfortable. Chris appreciated that.
However, as they approached the dormitory, Sinclair suddenly leaned forward, squinting through the windshield. "Is that not Sato?"
Chris’s brows furrowed. "What?" He followed Sinclair’s gaze.
Well, yeah. That was Sky.
Chris was totally stunned. He hadn’t expected to see him—not so soon, at least. Considering how Sky liked to avoid things.
However, now, he stood by the entrance, chatting with two other guys. It looked like he was either arriving or leaving the dorm. But as he waved the guys off, it became clear that Sky was heading inside.
However, before he could step him, he noticed their car which had just pulled up.
Sky’s eyes immediately went to them, narrowing as Chris stepped out.
Chris’s pulse kicked up a notch. He didn’t miss the way Sky’s expression shifted—neutral, but with a flicker of something deeper.
That raw intense jealousy he was beginning to get familiar with.
It seemed he was now very bad at keeping it hidden.
Sinclair grinned as he killed the engine. "This is gonna be interesting."
"Don’t start," Chris muttered under his breath.
Chris was caught off guard when Sinclair waved at Sky over. And the boy gladly began to approach them.
Sky approached them with his usual composed stride, his hands casually stuffed in his pockets. Chris tried to read his expression, but Sky’s face was a blank slate, save for the brief flicker of tension in his jaw as his gaze flickered between Chris and Sinclair.
"Hey," Sinclair greeted, grinning as he leaned casually against his car. "Fancy seeing you here, Sato."
Sky’s lips quirked in a tight smile. "Feels like you’re suddenly everywhere, Sinclair."
Sinclair laughed, his voice easy and light. "Not everywhere—just wherever Chris is." He gave Chris a playful nudge, but there was an edge to his teasing.
Chris cleared his throat, feeling a flush creep up his neck. "Sky." He tried to sound casual. "Didn’t expect to see you around."
Sky shrugged, his tone carefully neutral. "I live here," Sky reminded him. He looked like he wanted to glare at Chris but also did not want to do that at the same time.
Eyes narrowing slightly, Sky asked, "So... where are you guys coming from?" He asked it in a way that was supposed to sound like a bro-casual inquiry, but it didn’t quite land.
Sinclair, ever the opportunist, cut in smoothly. "Oh, we were at my place. Alone." His grin was borderline wicked.
"Clair," Chris glared at him. Seriously?
Sky’s jaw tightened, though he kept his expression composed.
Sinclair wasn’t done. "And Chris," he added, his tone mock-serious, "don’t forget to shower after doing such dirty things at my place."
Chris looked at him sharply. "What the—"
"I’ll be in the room," Sky cut in, turning to walk away without sparing them any other glance.
"What the hell was that?" Chris turned to him with a sharp gaze.
Sinclair snorted. "I think you are wasting your time trying to cover up what happened last night. That dude looks like he would do it again if he has the chance."
Chris furrowed his brows.
Sinclair slapped a hand on his shoulder. "In simple terms my dude... he can not even hide it. He is crazy about you."
