Chapter 142: "You’ve got guts,"

So what exactly happened between Collins and Sky on the day Collins went to meet Chris in his room?

Sky was hanging out with his friends. But just like how he had been for a while now, he was distracted. Not paying attention to whatever they were saying.

Chris showing up today had greatly distracted him. Of course, he knew he was a coward for running away from him and avoiding him since the first kiss happened.

But what choice did he have? What would he say to him after jumping him like that?

Today, he had seen him at the cafeteria. In fact, he had noticed him as soon as he entered and almost fled, but had to maintain himself.

As if that was not bad enough, Michael was subtly threatening him with a photo of him hugging Mei. Or rather, she had hugged him, wishing him well as she traveled back and reminded him to always text her. He appreciated her a lot for coming despite all that had happened.

"You sure you’re fine?" Noel asked suddenly, cutting through his thoughts. That would be the 100th time he was being asked that today. Or maybe the millionth time this week.

Sky barely had time to respond before his phone started ringing.

He glanced at the screen, and his frown deepened. Ash.

"Why does this guy keep bothering you?" Henry asked, irritation evident in his voice. "Why can’t you just block his number?"

The others—Noel and Collins—turned their eyes to Sky, clearly wondering the same thing.

"It’s complicated," Sky muttered, declining the call.

Collins, who had been unusually quiet all day, spoke up. "And how exactly complicated is it?"

This time, his voice wasn’t sharp, wasn’t laced with the usual hostility that had become his default lately.

Sky couldn’t tell them. Ash was a crazy bastard who had been threatening him for years.

He was able to find out he and Mei were playing them all for fools, and he hung it over his head. He was going to tell their father. Of course, he didn’t let Mei know about this. And it was quite hypocritical seeing how Ash didn’t hide his bisexuality. But like Ash would always say— he was a man. And it didn’t matter which hole he chose. At the end of the day, he could always have a child to put his family at ease. But the same could not be said for Mei. She was a woman. A woman who liked only women and didn’t care for children.

The phone started ringing again, but Sky ignored it.

Then Collins’ phone began to ring.

The sharp tone cut through the room, drawing everyone’s attention. It was plugged into the wall beside Noel, who glanced at the screen.

"Why do you have Ash’s number?" Noel asked as he picked up the phone, his tone sharp with suspicion.

Collins shot up from his seat and made a move to snatch the phone, his urgency drawing everyone’s attention.

"What other crazy thing have you been up to?" Henry demanded, his voice accusatory. "Why is Ash calling you?"

Collins straightened, defensive. "What’s wrong with having Ash’s number? Haven’t we all known him for years?" His gaze darted toward Sky, who had risen to his feet and was walking toward him with a dangerous calm.

Collins instinctively stepped back, clutching his phone behind him. But Sky was faster, snatching it out of his grasp effortlessly. He glared at Collins, holding the phone tightly in his hand.

It was locked.

"Unlock it," Sky commanded, his voice dark and unyielding.

"What the hell are you doing, Sato?" Collins asked in alarm before turning to the other two for support, "Are you really just going to let him bully me like this?" Collins shouted, his anger laced with panic.

Before anyone could respond, the phone buzzed in Sky’s hand. Ash’s name flashed across the screen.

Sky answered it without hesitation, ignoring Collins’ protests.

"Hey, little guy," Ash’s voice drawled through the speaker, that infuriatingly smug tone that always made Sky’s blood boil. "I sent you a nice photo. Be good and share it with your bestie."

Sky ended the call abruptly, his jaw tightening. He shoved the phone in Collins’ face, his eyes blazing. "Open it!"

Collins hesitated, his face pale, but his defiance was still burning in his expression. "You’re insane. I’m not doing this!"

Noel stepped forward, his voice now as heated as Sky’s. "Unlock the damn phone, Collins!"

Before Collins could argue further, Henry snatched the phone from Sky’s hand. Without hesitation, he punched in four digits.

The phone unlocked.

For a moment, there was stunned silence. Henry also blinked at the screen in disbelief like he had not expected it to work, his gaze snapping to Collins. "You are really insane." He said to Collins in bewilderment.

"My birthday?" Sky asked, his voice filled with confusion as he stared at Collins, who was now visibly shaken.

Collins lunged for the phone, but Sky was quicker, grabbing it from Henry’s hand. Noel moved swiftly, grabbing Collins by the arm and holding him back as he struggled.

Sky glanced at the phone’s screen. There were no new notifications, no messages popping up. Frowning, he opened the text inbox. Nothing.

He checked social media. Just school group chats and boring conversations—typical of Collins.

"Where’s the message?" Sky muttered, half to himself. Then it hit him—hidden or frozen apps.

While Noel kept Collins restrained, Sky dug deeper into the phone’s settings.

"This is illegal, you know?" Collins spat, his voice livid as he struggled against Noel’s grip.

"I think if there’s anyone who has been doing anything illegal, it’s you, isn’t it?" Henry said.

Henry seemed to know a lot. But that was the least of Sky’s problems.

Sky ignored them both, his fingers working quickly. Finally, he found it—hidden, frozen apps buried in the phone’s settings. Sky’s fingers trembled as he unlocked the frozen app. His birthday code worked again, and there it was—a duplicate messaging app.

At the top of the chat list, Ash’s name glared at him like a challenge.

He clicked on it. The last message was a photo: Chris in the library with a girl, looking far too comfortable. When did he ever go study in the library? The caption beneath it read, ’Tell him I already shared him a nice picture. He should take a look."

Sky’s frown deepened as his grip on the phone tightened.

"What’s that?" Henry leaned in to see, his usual calm demeanor replaced by a rare edge of unease.

Noel, impatient, shoved Collins aside and leaned over to peer at the screen.

"Oh wow! Chris is really snagging all the hot chicks in this school,’ he said, with a smirk, totally not reading the room.

Henry elbowed him sharply. "Noel, shut up."

But Noel’s words had already lit a fuse. Sky’s knuckles went white, and the phone in his hand creaked under the pressure of his grip. His chest rose and fell in shallow, rapid breaths.

Collins, his face pale but burning with anger, stepped forward to snatch the phone. "Give it back, Sky!"

In one violent motion, Sky hurled the phone across the room. It missed Collins by mere inches and slammed into the wall with a deafening crack, shards of glass flying as the screen shattered.

The room froze.

Collins flinched, his breath caught, torn between lunging at Sky or bolting for the door.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" he shouted, his voice a mix of fear and fury.

But Sky wasn’t listening. He shoved Collins aside with enough force to send him stumbling, then marched to the broken phone as if it were alive and mocking him. Without hesitation, he stomped on it. Once. Twice. Over and over until the pieces were unrecognizable.

"Sky!" Henry’s voice cracked as he finally stepped forward, his hand gripping Sky’s shoulder, trying to pull him back.

Sky shrugged him off, breathing heavily. His shoulders trembled, and for a moment, no one in the room dared move. Then he laughed—a strange, sharp sound that sent chills down their spines.

He raked a hand through his hair, his wide eyes finally snapping to Collins, who stood frozen, his fists clenched at his sides but his lips trembling.

"You’ve got guts," Sky said, his voice low and venomous. The words were calm, but his expression was anything but.
