Chapter 123: "When you’re done playing the fiance role, come back to the dorm tonight."

Shock registered on Sky’s face, while Chris felt a cold emptiness settle in his stomach. It was as if he had walked in on his lover with someone else. He was delusional. He knew that.

Shocked, the girl also turned, and Chris got a good look at her face. She was undeniably beautiful, no doubt. He didn’t need to be told. She looked too much like Ash to not be his sister.

"What happened here?!" Sky’s mother asked as she entered the kitchen and looked at her broken plate on the floor. "I’ll handle it before you make any further mess. Just go have fun."

She said, taking the towel from the girl and excusing herself, saying she needed to get more bags or something. No one paid attention.

The three of them stared at each other.

"You all okay in there?" Henry asked, appearing in the doorway and looking at the three of them with a kind of knowing look, something Chris took notice of.

Even the repeated interruptions from Sky’s mother and Henry and then Noel and Collins, who also joined were not able to cut through the tension as Chris continued to look at the two while they both looked at him with different expressions.

The girl approached him first, extending a hand with a warm smile. "You must be Chris. I’ve heard so much about you. I didn’t think you’d come."

"I could say the same to you," Chris retorted as he took her soft, tiny hands in his. His features were masked with indifference, his gaze sharp and unwavering.

"Okay. Let’s return. Everyone is good." Henry said before forcing his friends back out of the kitchen while they protested, but he informed them they had to continue their game since he was winning.

Soon, the three were left in the kitchen again.

Sky quietly approached and was soon standing beside the girl just as Chris let go of her hand.

"What... are you doing here?" Sky asked, his voice low and urgent.

"Isn’t it obvious?" Chris countered, tilting his head with a sardonic smile. "I came for the party."

Sky’s jaw tightened. "This is... Mei." Sky introduced them, his voice carefully neutral.

"I’m not sure which is the prettiest. The name or the bearer." Chris said to the girl who laughed.

Even her laugh was beautiful.

"I’m at least glad you aren’t hating on me."

"Why would I?" Chris asked in confusion. What did she know?

"I mean, after what happened with Ash. He is very nasty. I apologize on his behalf."

Oh...

Speaking of Ash. Why wasn’t he at least here? Neither were any of her family members. Did it mean this get-together wasn’t necessarily for her? But if it weren’t for her, Sky would have been aware and not accepted to go out with him today just to cancel on him.

He shook his head. "You don’t have to. Instead, you tell him to stay away from me."

Mei nodded. "I have. But I’ll remind him. However, if he still acts nasty to you, let me know. I’ll deal with him. Physically." She added the last bit in a whisper, making him smile. She eagerly returned the smile, showing her pearly white teeth.

"I’ll go get a drink. I’m parched. Want something?" She asked, looking at both boys. They both shook their heads, so she nodded and left quickly.

"She is... lovely." Chris remarked, looking behind him as the direction she had taken.

As much as he was very irritated. That was the truth.

Sky nodded. He said nothing else.

"You looked happy with her. I thought maybe I would come save you from a meeting you didn’t want, but I was wrong." Chris still tried to sound indifferent as he spoke.

Sky was about to say something when his mother returned to the kitchen, so he said quietly, "Let’s... talk in private."

He steered Chris towards out of the kitchen, towards the direction of his bedroom. Chris could tell Sky’s friends were all watching them until they were out of sight.

It was his first time in Sky’s bedroom. It looked... bland. Nothing special. It was organized, but there was really nothing interesting inside. Just a bed, desk, computer.

A heavy silence settled between them, broken only by the muffled sounds of the others outside the room. Sky opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again, his eyes filled with a turmoil of emotions that Chris couldn’t decipher.

"I’m not sure which is worse. The fact that you canceled our plans for today or that you didn’t think to invite me to this get-together with friends. I must really be overestimating my place with you." He didn’t try to mask his irritation now.

Even if Sky was very dense, he should be able to pick up by now that he simply didn’t want to be put at the side. He was never going to be a side piece.

"I just... I didn’t want you to come."

"Because?"

"Just because." He looked away.

"When is she leaving?"

"She’s staying for a few days."

"Okay." Chris nodded. "When you’re done playing the fiance role, come back to the dorm tonight. Let’s see a movie together."

"Chris..."

"Come to the dorm tonight. And buy the snacks. No?" Chris made sure he kept eye contact with Sky, waiting for him to object.

Sky sighed. "Okay."

"Shit! Now I feel like I’m forcing you into something you don’t want to with you looking so miserable like that." Chris swore and ran his hand through his hair. "Fuck it! Don’t come—"

"I’ll come." Sky interrupted before he could finish.

Chris didn’t respond to that.

They just remained there silently until there was a light knock and the door opened.

Mei peeked in and smiled when she saw them.

"I hope I’m not interrupting any serious talks, but my mom wants to say hello," she waved her phone in her hand.

Sky glanced at Chris one more time before he took the phone from her and walked to the corner of his room as he spoke with her in their language.

He was pissed, but he couldn’t deny the fact that Sky always sounded sexy when he spoke in his mother tongue.

Chris eyes moved from Sky to Mei when he noticed she was staring and found her smiling at him.

"What?" He asked curiously.

"You are very good looking." She said making him scoff.

"You should see yourself then. I doubt anyone lights a candle where you stand"

She giggled loudly, causing Sky to turn to them, furrowing his brow.

Chris glared at him, his look asking, ’That the hell are you staring at?’

Sky pursed his lips and returned to his call.

"I’ll head out now. It was lovely meeting you, Mei."

"Pleasure is all mine, Christopher."

Christopher.

She had called him by his full name.
