Chapter 117: Date?
Chapter 117: Date?
Chris had been about to head home after school, but a strange intuition tugged at him, urging him to make a U-turn towards the school gym. His steps were determined, but if someone were to ask him what he hoped to achieve by going there, he wouldn’t have an answer for them.
Despite the chilly air in the room, the gym was alive with the sound of clinking weights and the sight of students giving their all to their workouts.
Among the sea of sweaty bodies, Chris spotted Noel. Noel’s muscles were rock hard and glistened with perspiration. His focused expression only added to the allure, making Chris momentarily forget the reason he had come here.
Wow! He didn’t know this guy was this...
Fuck’s sake, promiscuous Chris, focus!!!
He shook his head to clear his thoughts, just as Noel noticed Chris’s presence. Noel set down the weights he had been helping another guy lift.
There was a flicker of emotion in Noel’s eyes, one that Chris couldn’t quite decipher as Noel approached him. They exchanged greetings, and Noel asked about Chris’s health.
He fell sick for one day, and everyone in the world knew about it.
Chris replied, "I’m fine, thanks," though his mind was preoccupied with the person he had come here for. He hesitated before deciding to bring it up. "Is Sky around? I need to talk to him about something."
Noel hesitated for a moment, his expression unreadable, before finally pointing in the direction of the storage room. Chris nodded his thanks and headed in that direction, his curiosity piqued.
When he reached the door to the storage room, he approached cautiously, not knowing what he was expecting to find. He slowly pushed the door open, and what he saw left him utterly bewildered.
Inside the cramped storage room, the scene that unfolded before him was bizarre and uncomfortable. A shirtless, hulking, muscular guy, presumably a jock, was openly flirting with Sky. Sky, who was in the middle of making protein shakes, looked uncomfortable and was clearly trying to fend off the guy’s advances, but he was persistent.
The jock’s voice was low and insistent as he said, "Come on, Sky, just give me a chance. You know I’ve always had a thing for you."
Sky, flustered and irritated, replied firmly without looking at him as he measured the ingredients for the shake he was making: "I’ve already told you, I’m not interested. You may lose your gym membership if this continues." Sky turned to face the guy, asking, "You know I can do that, right?"
"Come on, I’m also worried about my reputation as much as you are about yours. So you don’t think I’ll go tell everyone we’re doing things, right? No one has to know. It’ll be our little secret." The guy persisted, getting increasingly touchy-feely, much to Sky’s discomfort. Chris’s protective instincts kicked in, and he couldn’t stand by and watch any longer. He cleared his throat loudly, causing both boys to startle and turn toward him.
With a glare, Chris addressed the jock: "No one has to know what?"
The guy looked taken aback by Chris’s sudden appearance and stammered, "I... uh, we were just having a chat, you know?"
Chris ignored the guy’s flustered response and walked closer to Sky, his gaze never leaving the guy. "A chat? It looked like more than that to me."
Sky turned to the guy and told him quietly to leave.
The jock, realizing he was outnumbered, glared at Chris before he exited the storage room.
With the unwelcome intruder gone, Chris turned his attention to Sky. "Are you okay?"
Sky let out a sigh and managed a small smile. "I am."
Sky turned to continue making protein shakes, but Chris couldn’t ignore that Sky still seemed somewhat jumpy. Concerned, he finally asked, "Why are you acting like you’ve done something wrong?"
Sky chuckled nervously, his fingers fidgeting slightly as he worked. "I’m not sure, Chris. It’s just... a reflex, I guess."
Chris raised an eyebrow. "Does this kind of thing happen often?"
Sky nodded, his expression thoughtful, as Chris watched his side. "More often than I’d like to admit."
Chris looked genuinely puzzled before giving Sky an appreciative once-over. "Why don’t you do something about it, then? You don’t seem like the type to just wait around for a knight to save you."
Sky glanced at Chris, a faint smile playing on his lips. "It’s better to avoid trouble. Besides, it’s a critical time for me right now. I just received some merits from the school. I can’t afford to make any waves."
"I don’t mind making such waves for you then." Chris offered. "I can always be your knight in shining armour." Chris winked playfully at him.
Sky chuckled, not taking Chris too seriously. "Oh yeah?"
"You don’t trust me?" Chris asked, his tone playful.
"Don’t be silly. You need to protect your scholarship at all costs. No making trouble anywhere."
"Tch! You’re no fun."
Sky laughed, shaking his head. Changing the subject, he asked, "How are you? Feel better?"
"I’m fine. All thanks to a certain someone."
"And who might that be?" Sky asked softly.
"Who else if not my parents for giving birth to a very fine kid?"
Sky let out an unrestrained laughter that had Chris hooked, and he couldn’t help but laugh too.
See? Just like that, he had forgotten about the foul mood he had been in.
"Why did you suddenly show up here? Have you had lunch?" Sky asked when his laughter died down.
"I had lunch," he said dismissively.
"You didn’t answer my first question." Sky pointed out, looking at him.
Of course, he had ignored that on purpose, but hadn’t expected Sky to focus on it. "Do you not want me here?" He asked instead.
Sky smirked, recognizing the familiar evasion tactic. "Avoiding my question, huh?
Chris returned the smirk with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Sounds like a trait I learned from someone."
Sky couldn’t help but laugh at that. "Fine, fine, you got me. I appreciate you being here, really. At least Morgan was able to leave."
"Who’s Morgan? The guy in love with you?" Chris asked, gesturing at the door.
Sky scoffed. "More like lust. He’s been trying so hard for over a year now to have sex with me."
Chris leaned closer to Sky and used a finger to trace Sky’s arm, getting his attention. "Even though he is an asshole, I kinda understand him."
"Understand what?" Sky asked as his eyes went to Chris’s finger on his arm and then to Chris’s face.
"Not able to resist such a... sexy gym instructor." Chris winked.
"You’re an asshole," Sky said, laughing.
The conversation between them turned light, and Sky handed him a glass of his first batch of shakes as he started the preparation for the second batch.
Chris took a sip, appreciating the taste. It had been a long time since he last had this.
"You seem to like it," Sky said with pride at his good job.
"It’s okay." Chris eyed him up and down with a flirtatious look. "But I might like the maker more."
"I usually don’t judge sexual preferences, but... You are into blenders now?" Sky asked, trying to suppress his smile as he touched the fruit blender.
Chris almost choked on the smoothie as he laughed.
See why he liked this guy? His sense of humour was sexy.
As Chris finished the smoothie, he knew he could not keep hanging around there.
He had to leave. But he couldn’t just leave like that.
He turned to Sky, a glint of determination in his eyes. "How about we go out tomorrow?"
Sky turned to him, genuinely confused. "Go out? Where do you want to go?"
Chris locked his gaze on Sky’s and answered with a serious tone, "I mean, WE should go out. Like outside of town ’out’."
Sky’s eyes rounded, and he stammered, "You mean... like a... d-date kind of outing?"
Chris nodded, not breaking eye contact. He noticed Sky’s reaction and asked, "Is that a problem?"
Their conversation hung in the air for a moment, thick with tension, as Chris’s unexpected proposition lingered between them.
It looked like Sky was trying to process what Chris was suggesting. He stammered again, "I... I mean, it’s just...unexpected."
Chris maintained his serious demeanour and pressed on, "And is that a problem for you, Sky?"
Sky hesitated. He turned away to finish making the protein shake, his hands trembling slightly. In a quiet voice, he replied, "I... I need to check my schedule."
Chris could sense Sky’s reluctance, but more than that, Sky hadn’t turned him away.
He had decided not to give up, and he wouldn’t.
"I trust you can clear your schedule for me," Chris said in a light tone. "I have to return to the dorm now."
Sky briefly glanced at him, nodding.
As Chris left the room, the atmosphere remained charged with unspoken emotions. He couldn’t shake the feeling that their friendship was evolving into something more profound, and he was determined to explore it further, even if it meant pushing the boundaries of their comfort zone.
