Chapter 106: Most likely
Chapter 106: Most likely
Gary, unfortunately not catching the subtleties of the situation, added with a smile, "Yeah, and Rachel even came to stay with him to make sure he was okay. He almost collapsed in the bathroom—"
Chris’s glare could have burned a hole through the table. It was clear Gary was oblivious to the shift in dynamics. "T.M.I, Gary. T.M.I," Chris said, making Gary shut up and, for once, looking around him to notice the air around them.
"Rachel... was also there last night?" Sky asked, his tone sounded like he was in disbelief.
Chris coughed, trying to appear nonchalant. "Yeah, I had a fever, so they offered to keep me company. Any biggie?"
Sky’s gaze remained fixed on Chris. It was almost making Chris uncomfortable.
Henry coughed, breaking the tension. "How do you feel now? I noticed you weren’t exactly looking good."
"I... always look good," Chris said in a light tone that caused everyone around the table to chuckle except for one obvious person, and that person was not the weirdo Collins, so that was left with the last one. Sky.
"Are you sure it wasn’t an STI from kissing... you know who?" Noel asked Chris lightly.
There was a pause before the table bellowed into laughter, except for Collins and Sky.
Chris also didn’t find it funny; instead, he felt like puking. He didn’t have to mention that when he was trying to force himself to eat!
Sky’s expression remained unreadable for a moment, and then he spoke, his tone tinged with a touch of mockery. "Well, well, aren’t we just one big happy family?"
Okay... this dude was really asking for it. And Chris was always ready to serve it to him hot and fresh.
Chris forced a chuckle, the tension between them growing thicker. "Yeah, you could say that."
Sky glared at him. A very open and intense glare that made it clear to the entire room that he was glaring at Chris, so they wouldn’t mistake it for anything else.
Even when the conversation around the table continued, Chris could still feel Sky’s gaze on him despite Collins interacting with him and occasionally trying to get him to respond to something. Academic stuff, obviously.
Chris couldn’t deny that their interactions had taken a turn he hadn’t anticipated. The playful banter that had once been a simple exchange of words now held a depth that left him both intrigued and slightly unnerved.
Gary had been able to relax a bit, and Henry seemed to carry him along in their conversation. Meanwhile, Chris was still struggling with eating, but more than that, he was having fun with Sky’s reaction.
It was clear.
The boy was jealous.
"I’m leaving!" Sky suddenly said as he got up.
The conversation around the table seized with all eyes on him, but he said nothing to anyone else and just walked away while his friends scampered around to get their things, cursing him for always being rude and not giving them the heads up.
Henry was already leaving with them when he returned in a hurry to whisper something to Chris’s ear, then winked at him before running after the others.
When they were about to pass the door, Sky turned to look at him.
With a final glance, Sky turned and walked away, leaving Chris to ponder the whirlwind of emotions that had just swept through the cafeteria. The tension had been thick, the banter fierce, and yet beneath it all, Chris sensed a connection that was growing stronger with each passing exchange.
Chris’s eyes followed them until they left the cafeteria, Henry’s words resounding in his ears.
"Stay away from Gary,"
Chris turned to look at Gary.
Had Henry said that because something was wrong with Gary or because of something else? Perhaps Sky?
"He is so... uncomfortable," Gary remarked, breathing heavily. He seemed to have forgotten how to breathe normally when Sky was present. Funny because Rachel always felt the same way. Sky was pretty intimidating to other people.
Just then, Chris received a text message. When he realized it was from Sky, he raised a brow and picked up his phone to open the message.
The message was clear. Or rather, messages. Because more messages popped in as he read them.
The first message: (If I see a soul other than you in that room tonight, I will turn everything upside down.)
Did that mean he was coming tonight?
(I’m not even joking, Chris!)
(We need to talk.)
Chris smirked. Now he wanted to know what Sky wanted to talk about.
Another message came in. Boy seemed to be livid because he could not just stop texting.
(Try not to piss me off for one day, can you?)
(Gary now? Seriously?)
(You were sick! And do I remind you that I am your roommate!)
(You were shamelessly flirting in my presence!)
(I will destroy you, little bro!)
Chris burst into laughter. He had been trying to hold it in, but the last message just set him off.
Well, this was interesting.
Chris’s attention was drawn back to the present as Gary leaned in slightly, his voice laced with curiosity. "Everything okay?"
Chris’s lips curled into a faint smile as he looked at Gary. The corners of his eyes crinkled with a mixture of amusement and intrigue. "Yeah." He grinned. "Abso-fucking-lutely."
"Is Sky always like that?" Gary asked quietly.
Chris shrugged. "Depends on the day, I guess. He’s a bit unpredictable."
Gary chuckled. "You don’t say."
"You know," Gary mused, "it’s like he’s got something to hide."
Chris glanced at Gary, his curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, his reactions—how he looked at us, especially when he found out I was with you last night. It’s like he wasn’t expecting it, and it... bothered him."
He clearly hadn’t been overthinking it. But this was Sky they were talking about here.
"You are reading too much into it. He is always like that."
Gary nodded, his curiosity not fully satisfied but polite enough not to pry further.
