Chapter 105: Jealous?

Chapter 105: Jealous?

Chris looked at Sky suspiciously.

Didn’t that tone sound familiar, or was he overthinking?

Nah. He doubted he was overthinking.

Either Sky really wasn’t pleased with Gary being here or Sky... was jealous.

Collins, noticing the sudden shift in the conversation, interjected in his usual bland tone. "Aren’t we here to order?" His words acted as a disruption, breaking the gaze between Sky, Chris, and Gary and redirecting the attention of the group. "I’ll take your orders." He offered, taking out a notebook and pen to write.

"You are such a darling. No wonder I love you—" Henry was about to give Collins a side hug when he put up a hand to stop him.

Collins took a jotter and pen to write out their orders, and when he left to go get it, Henry turned his attention back on Chris.

"What exactly happened between you and Ash? People have been talking about it." Noel asked Chris curiously.

"I don’t need to explain myself to people, do I?" Chris asked in the nonchalant tone he usually used when he felt talking about something was unnecessary.

"True." Sky chipped in, nodding. "You can do anything you want. In public." He eyed Gary. "And make new friends." He added.

Chris tried to suppress his smile, clearly amused. It seemed like Sky didn’t want to let it go. It was getting clearer now.

This was more likely jealousy than anything else. Did it mean he had been correct to assume that Sky probably did have feelings for him?

Gary shifted slightly, his discomfort evident, but he didn’t let it deter him. "He was... well kinda doing that to cheer me up. The sausage, I mean." Gary explained awkwardly.

Sky leaned against the table, smiling at Chris. "Well, aren’t you a good friend?"

Chris shot Sky a pointed look. "Oh, we’re not just friends. We’re practically buddies now, sharing sausages and all."

Sky’s friends exchanged glances, and Noel snorted in suppressed laughter. But Sky didn’t let it faze him. Instead, he locked eyes with Chris, a challenge in his gaze. "Well, then, I hope you’re enjoying your brotherly bonding time."

The tension between them was palpable, and the air was thick with unspoken words and hidden meanings. It was as if the cafeteria had become their battleground, a place where each teasing remark and loaded glance was a move in their unspoken game.

Henry, never one to miss an opportunity, chimed in. "Is this a new bromance we’re witnessing?"

Sky’s grin widened, his gaze never leaving Chris. "Oh, absolutely. Nothing like a little bonding over breakfast sausage."

Chris chuckled, refusing to back down. "You know what they say: sharing is caring."

"Just... just to be clear. We aren’t exactly that close." Gary stuttered like an idiot. "We only share a few classes and don’t even know our real majors." He seemed to be trying his best to get on Sky’s good side.

"We can always get closer. I’m in Business. You?" Chris offered with a smile that would have been termed friendly if it didn’t look too forced.

"Den-tistry," Gary answered just as Collins arrived with their orders.

"Dentistry? Seriously?" Chris asked, his skepticism evident.

Gary let out a laugh that seemed to relieve him of the tension he was facing. "Yeah, I get that a lot. I guess I don’t look like the typical straight-A student."

Chris shrugged. "You look... well, normal."

Gary grinned. "I’ll take that as a compliment."

"Makes me want to be your best buddy. You could be my future dentist." Chris said with a grin.

"Well, I have to pass my exams first, and you know... know if I will be one?"

"Oh! You’d definitely pass it," Chris winked at him.

Sky let out a chuckle and ran his hands through his hair, muttering, "This is insane."

Chris had never derived this much joy from indirectly stirring up someone.

"Are you all going to eat now?" Collins asked in an impatient tone, bringing Chris back to reality. That was when he realized Collins was back, and as for the other two, they were busy texting. And it looked like they were texting themselves.

Chris frowned. This always made him feel uncomfortable. Because he seemed to have noticed they were quite fond of texting themselves whenever he was around. He could not shake off the feeling that they were probably talking about him.

He looked at Sky briefly. Sky’s gaze held a hint of something that Chris couldn’t quite decipher, but before he could dwell on it, Sky straightened up, his usual confident grin back in place. "Enjoy your meal."

Chris smirked before he urged Gary to go on and eat. However, he still found it difficult to enjoy his meal because he still felt nauseous. So he just played around with the food while the other friends talked about things that did not concern him.

"Why aren’t you eating?" Gary asked him quietly.

"I don’t like the taste."

"It’s not about what you like. You need to eat something before your fever returns."

"Fever?" Noel looked up, asking Chris.

"Are you sick?" Sky asked Chris, his brows furrowed.

"I’m fine," Chris said to the two of them dismissively.

Gary pressed on. "It’s clear you don’t look fine. You also need to drink enough water—"

"Gary dear... are you my mother?" Chris asked the guy.

"You didn’t ask me that when we were together last night." Gary retorted.

"Wait..." Sky dropped his fork with a clatter, his gaze shifting between Chris and Gary.

Chris saw Sky’s demeanour shift ever so slightly, a fleeting flash of surprise, and something else in his eyes.

Sky’s gaze flickered to Chris, a curious and almost... dare he say it, madly pissed glint in his eyes.

"You... were in our room... last night?" Sky asked Gary, carefully selecting his words.

Chris felt the sudden tension in the air, the unspoken question hanging heavily. He knew this air around Sky. It was the ’I am ready to blow up right now’ signal.
