Chapter 92: I’m glad I could make you smile, Sweetie

I placed my hand on my neck, remembering there were traces of love bite around my neck.

’Did... Did he see it?’ I wondered but was too scared to raise my head and see the kind of expression he had on his face.

Geumtae was gay but he had no idea I was gay, and I had no plans of saying it out with my mouth.

Was he mad that I hit his hand away? Why did he have to see it?

"What a reaction." Geumtae said and closed in on us. He said, "Don’t worry, sweetie. I was just concerned that people would see and talk." He leaned closer to whisper in my ear. "It’s not a crime that you decided to have ’fun’ and got marked all over so ease up. People are staring." He said and moved away, smiling.

I couldn’t tell what was on his mind. What was Geumtae thinking, and what expressions were hidden behind that smile?

Up until that moment, I could tell his smile was genuine but it had started to shift. Yes, he was no longer smiling genuinely. He was hiding something, an emotion he didn’t want me to see and I could tell with one single look in his eyes.

I looked at the people who he claimed were staring and truly, they were staring. I paused my lips.

Maybe I overreacted.

I suddenly started laughing and said,

"Geumtae, that was a really funny joke. Who knew you were such a joker." I said, laughing as hard as I could, hoping this would offset the way people were looking at us and it worked.

They started moving on, feeling we were just goofing around and Geumtae laughed along with me.

"And you fell for my joke so easily." He said and our laughter settled down. "Do you feel at ease now?" He asked and I nodded. "That’s good. Let’s go get that coffee before my lunch break is over."

We started walking again but the atmosphere was just never the same.

Geumtae did the talking from there, talking about random things while I nodded in agreement and just shook my head in disapproval. I didn’t utter a word and kept him at bay.

"So, what would you like?" He asked once we got into the coffee shop, and I had to open my mouth to speak at last. I said,

"Bubble tea, please." He looked at me and then laughed. "W-what?" I asked and he shook his head.

"It’s nothing. It’s just I pinned you for the sweet tooth kinda guy, and I was right." He said. "It feels good to be right."

I slightly blushed. What? Was he saying I was like a kid? Men could have a sweet tooth, too, couldn’t they?

Geumtae came back to the table after making the order and smiled at me.

It made me feel uncomfortable. With his closed eyes and bright smile, it was like he was searching my entire body in the spirit realm. I gulped.

"S-so," I decided to bring up a topic that would get him talking. "How long has the shop been running?" I asked but then wondered if I was asking something unnecessary. I hoped, with bathed breath, that he wouldn’t get offended.

"Oh, you’re curious about me?" He looked excited. "Well, I’ll be happy to tell you." I sighed, feeling relieved. "Well, I graduated from a five-year program over six years ago and opened the shop a year later. So, I could say the shop is five years old." He answered and started smiling at me again.

"T-that’s good." I said, but inwardly, I thought, ’That was fast. What can I say to make him speak longer?’

"If you want to know more about me, I’d be happy to tell you." He said and I nodded

"Yes, please." I said. ’Did I sound too eager? I hope he didn’t mistake it as me having interest in him. That would be really awkward.’ I thought.

"So, I have three brothers." He said. "I’m the second. I’m younger than the eldest by two years and older than the third by five years. The third just got his degree." He said and made a face like he wanted to puke. "Ugh, he won’t let me rest for a week straight and just keeps demanding things from me."

Listening to that and seeing his expression change, I laughed. It was rather funny.

"Haha, I’m glad I could make you smile, sweetie." He said, brushing his hair back. Then, he looked at the strand in front of his eyes and said, "Say, sweetie, what do you think if I dyed my hair blonde?" He asked. "Would that make me one of your suns, like those two?"

I was dumbstruck and blinked.

"What... What would...?"

"You see, I really want to get your attention." He said, going back to a topic I wished we could move on from for good. "I was serious when I said I wanted to woo you."

"That..." The light on our table came up, indicating our order was ready and so I got up right away. "I’ll go get our orders." I said. ’Thank goodness. I didn’t know what I would’ve done at that moment. What did he mean he wanted to be one of my suns? Did he know something?’

I felt confused. I paid for the order and stared at the table. What would I say once I got back to the table?

"Should I just make an excuse and leave?" I muttered but shook my head. That was a bad idea, I already did that before and was yet to apologize. ’Let’s think of something. Hopefully, I can change the topic once I get there.’

I walked towards the table and just before I got there, someone wearing a face cap walked up to him.

’Who’s that?’

I got to the table and dropped the order on the table.

"Oh, sweetie, you’re back." Geumtae said, and I wondered how he had no shame in calling me that in front of others. "Just as I was saying, the devil appeared."

"The... Devil?" I tilted my head, confused.

"Yes, this is my younger brother Geum Jaeho." He said, and Jaeho took off his cap.

He had the same white hair as Geumtae and, correct me if I’m wrong, he looked like a younger Geumtae, just with piercings.

"Hello," Jaeho greeted, slightly bowing his head.

"H-hello." I greeted but then he said the weirdest thing

"If my brother gives you trouble or makes unnecessary demands, please do not hesitate to call the cops."

"Geum Jaeho!" Geumtae yelled and gave him a good smack on the bed. "Sit down."
