Chapter 91: I feel so happy
"Sorry, I took too long." Geumtae said. "It seems those ladies began to shatter again." He smiled awkwardly.
"Are they always like that?"
"Well, they mostly talk to me, asking if I have a girlfriend or if I was interested in a blind date. To be more specific, if I wanted to meet their daughters." He said and laughed.
"I’m sure you saw that coming. You already get a lot of attention just from being handsome, so being nice as well will make you a mother’s magnet." I said, lightly chuckling.
"So," Geumtae suddenly got close, our faces inches apart, and with a smile on his lips, he asked, "Do you also think I’m handsome?"
He was so close to me that I had to gulp before picking out my words.
"Y-yes." I answered. "You’re very handsome."
"Really?" He stepped closer, trying to close that little inch that was in between us and I stepped back. "Then, am I more handsome than those twins that follow you around like mutts?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No." I said. "They’re the most handsome. You can come in second."
Geumtae looked shocked and blinked. He laughed and stepped back.
"Oh my, I had a feeling you would say no but," he looked at me with a certain gaze and added, "... I didn’t think you would be so straightforward about it. It almost feels like you’ve picked sides already."
"I’m sorry if I was too direct but it’s the truth." I said and placed Lily down. "To me, the twins are like the sun. And because they are the sun," I subconsciously smiled. "I find myself longing to be bathed by their warmth."
I looked at Geumtae to find him with widened eyes and realized what I had said.
"Oh, sorry. I said too much." I felt awkward. ’Sun? Warmth? Of all things to say at this moment?’
"When did you become a poet?" Geumtae suddenly asked and smiled.
He turned around to pick a can from the shelf and started heading for the door.
"Don’t take it too personally, sweetie; I just wanted to know what your preference was." He said as he picked up Lily from the floor.
"Why... Why did you want to know about my preference?" I asked and without shame, he said,
"To woo you, of course." As soon as he said that, my face flushed red.
"E-excuse me?" I went after him. "That... That was a joke, right?"
"You can take it however you wish but I know what I said." He said. "Now, come. Let me see if little Lily will need any more checkups for the month."
I was dumbstruck.
Did... Did he... Did Geumtae just say he wanted to woo me?
It was a joke, right? Yes, it has to be. Why would he show interest in someone like me? I... I was... I paused.
The question changed in my head and I wondered, ’Why would anyone show interest in me in the first place? I was a plain Jane.’
Geumtae concluded Lily’s check-up and said,
"With this, she won’t need to come over for a month. But be sure to bring her over to have fun with the rest." He said, "Just because there’s no more check-up, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t come over from time to time." He said and I nodded.
"I... I understand."
"In the meantime, why don’t we go out and grab coffee?" He smiled.
"Oh, of course. My treat." I said and he nodded.
"Wait for me outside, I’ll just check on the animals and then lock up."
I walked out of the shop and sat on the waiting bench outside.
After what he said about wooing me, I felt a little uncomfortable, but having coffee together wasn’t a big deal. I mean, I was still yet to apologize for leaving like that, and he had helped me so much, so a little coffee wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Then, I raised my gaze and my eyes widened.
The two, whom I had been trying so hard to keep out of my head, were being displayed on the big screen of the largest building in the area.
It featured the pictures I took of them, and switched slides, showing more of my masterpiece; I found my heart warming up.
’I don’t know if it’s because my work is being displayed or if it’s because the twins look exceptionally breathtaking but... My heart won’t stop thumping in excitement.’ I thought, staring at the screen. ’I feel so happy.’
Geumtae walked out of the shop and said,
"Sorry, I took longer than I..." As soon as he saw me staring mindlessly yet warmly, he followed my eyes to see what I was staring at.
He saw the twins on the screen and then turned his eyes back to me.
He glanced at my neck and then palmed his face.
"Ah, I see." He muttered and I snapped out of my daze.
I looked at him and said,
"Sorry, did you say something?"
He shook his head, smiling brightly, and said,
"It’s nothing. I was just surprised that those guys turned out to be models. No wonder you would choose them over me." He said as I got up and I shook my head frantically.
"Oh, no. It’s not like that." I said. "Even if they weren’t models, they still..."
"Look better than me, I get it." He said, showing a little hurt expression, and then he laughed. "Did that get you? Don’t worry, I’m not upset." He said but for some reason, I felt uneasy. "You guys seemed rather close. Have you known each other long?"
We started walking towards the direction of the coffee shop and I thought about the question.
Well, we used to know each other when we were younger but we got separated and only reunited about a month ago. So, could that be considered knowing each other for long? I was confused.
"Well, we’re close." I said, hoping that could gloss over the question and Geumtae nodded.
"I figured." He said. "You guys must be ’really’ close." It sounded rather odd, like he was trying to make a point but I shrugged it off as me overthinking
But then, he stopped and turned to me.
"Also, sweetie," he reached out his hand to my neck and brushed on the little hickey that was exposed, thanks to my turtle neck drawing down. He smiled. "Isn’t it hot? Why did you wear a turtle neck in the middle of spring?"
Reflexively, I smiled his hand away and my eyes widened.
