Chapter 637: Chapter 636: Big Shot

"Young master, I am Leah Erickson. Thank you for saving my life!" The head of the guards realized that Yusuf Zuck was very polite and didn’t enter the inner family’s carriage, but instead rode his horse over to Yusuf’s side and introduced himself.

However, at this moment, he found it a bit odd because the young master seemed not very adept at riding a horse, appearing quite strange.

"Don’t mention it, you lent me clothes, and I helped you kill people—it’s even now!" Yusuf Zuck replied with a smile.

"May I ask for the young master’s esteemed surname and where your hometown is?" Leah Erickson had a naturally stern face, but tried his best to appear smiling at this time, since the person in front of him was so powerful and had just saved them.

"My name is Zhang ... Zhang Sheng." Yusuf Zuck was about to say his name was Yusuf Zuck, but then thought that the name might be hated in the Dragon Gate World, so he blurted out a random name, calling himself Zhang Sheng instead.

"As for my hometown... I don’t know either, I’ve always lived in the deep mountains," Yusuf Zuck shrugged as he spoke.

Leah Erickson smiled faintly and did not continue to ask, since it was clear that this Zhang Sheng didn’t want to say more.

Meanwhile, the conversation inside the carriage was very lively, with three women and a child, their laughter spilling out from time to time.

"Hey, husband, come over here." Just as Yusuf Zuck was talking intermittently with Leah Erickson, Ember Vance lifted the curtain and waved to Yusuf.

Yusuf Zuck immediately spurred his horse over to the carriage, also looking oddly at Ember, who had just called him husband.

Ember darted a glance at Yusuf and whispered, "That’s what everyone calls you—here, this is for you." With that, she handed him a food box.

"My name is Zhang Sheng," Yusuf Zuck whispered in Ember’s ear as he took the food box.

"Got it," Ember replied, before letting the curtain fall and resuming the lively chatter inside.

Yusuf Zuck opened the food box to find a variety of delicately made pastries, all with an enticing scent.

He picked one up and took a bite, finding it wonderfully delicious and particularly flaky.

"Looks like they’re from a very, very large and wealthy family." Yusuf could tell that these women and children belonged to a family of substantial wealth, judging by their clothing and the food they ate—this family paid attention to the finer things.

After finishing a few pastries, Yusuf once again rode up to Leah Erickson and asked, "How much further is it to Jizhou Prefecture?"

"About thirteen hundred li, I reckon!" Leah Erickson replied after a moment’s thought.

"That far?" Yusuf was taken aback, thinking that without highways or cars, relying on the rickety little carriage to travel thirteen hundred li would take many days and might even rub blisters on his buttocks.

"Is Jizhou Prefecture big? I’ve never been there. My wife, her ladyship, and I have always lived in the mountains, almost completely cut off from the world, so we don’t know what Jizhou Prefecture is like. Could you tell me about it?" Yusuf asked.

"Heh, Master Zhang doesn’t know about Jizhou Prefecture? Then why are you going to Jizhou Prefecture?" Leah Erickson asked, feigning indifference.

"I’ve heard of it but never been there. Going to see the world," Yusuf knew Leah Erickson was still wary of him and didn’t quite trust him.

After a brief contemplation, Leah Erickson answered, "Jizhou Prefecture lies on the coast of the East Sea and is the largest prefecture in the east. It’s very prosperous with a large population and quite lively."

"Oh, I see," Yusuf nodded, sighed softly, and stopped inquiring further.

He knew this was the Dragon Gate World, the Saint Dragon Continent, a place with an empire and the largest cultivation organization, many cultivation sects, and more.

But what was this world really like? The local customs, the laws, the way of life—what would they all be like here?

Yusuf Zuck didn’t continue asking because talking too much would more likely arouse suspicion.

After walking for a day, they camped and rested come nightfall, which was in tune with the time difference on Earth, complete with a sun and moon. Yusuf even saw the Big Dipper.

After dinner, Ember Vance and Ruth Wilcox joined Yusuf, all of them gazing up at the crescent moon and the Big Dipper.

"If I hadn’t heard and seen so much here, I would have thought this place was Earth," Ruth said bitterly. "But it’s not. This world must be some sort of parallel space, hence the moon and sun, and the seasons of spring and autumn too!"

At this point, Ember said, "We are now in the northern region of Yun, within the Saint Dragon Empire. Ji Zhou Prefecture is more than a thousand miles from here, and we’ll need half a month to get there. The common currencies here are silver coins and Gold Coins—where one silver coin can only buy a bowl of noodles, and one Gold Coin is worth about three hundred silver coins."

"Moreover, there are thirteen states here, and the capitals of their dynasties are all called ’Upper Capital,’ with the dragon as their totem, and the Royal Clan surnamed Dragon."

"Hmm, the woman is called Snow Skirt, and the child is named ’Wandering Cloud.’ They’ve been traveling for three months from Snow City of Yun North. Ji Zhou Prefecture is their destination; her husband’s family is there, but she didn’t mention what they do," Ruth added.

"Well done, you’ve gathered quite detailed information!" Yusuf praised.

"Kids talk a lot, so she said everything that needed to be said. What do we do next?" asked Ember.

"There’s no rush to leave; we need to understand more about this place. I’m not interested in any empire; I’m looking for a martial arts sect," Yusuf whispered.

"Understood."

Frost and dew set in at night, so Ruth and Ember returned to the carriage. In fact, there was another carriage, but it was filled with goods and luggage.

The following days were peaceful, and the two women grew more acquainted with Snow Skirt, with the child affectionately calling them "auntie."

Perhaps because they were nearing Ji Zhou Prefecture, there were gradually more travelers on the road.

The locals, both men and women, had long hair and wore long robes with cloth shoes, none of them exhibiting any hint of modernity.

On the fifth day, the group finally saw a small town. However, Snow Skirt and Leah Erickson did not intend to enter the town. Instead, they ordered everyone to stop and then waited in silence.

In about ten minutes, someone carrying double flags on their back and riding a swift horse appeared on the official road. Soon after, a large number of armored individuals appeared; all were mounted on horses and carrying swords, uniform in their attire.

"They are soldiers," Yusuf breathed out, noting among the eight hundred rugged troops two men in green robes—one at the Foundation Establishment stage and the other at the Realm of Great Fetal Respiration.

The eight hundred quickly surrounded the two carriages, the rear formation becoming the lead, and then continued onward.

Nobody forced Ruth or Ember off the carriage, nor did anyone come up to inquire. All coordination was solely handled by Leah.

Once back on the road, the two cultivators among the eight hundred rode up beside Yusuf, unabashedly scrutinizing him from head to toe.

Yusuf wore a sword at his waist, but this sword, when not unsheathed and not killing, did not emit any aura; it looked like just an ordinary sword.

"I am grateful to Young Master Yusuf for saving our lady. Once we arrive at Ji Zhou City, my lord will surely offer you a generous reward!" said the cultivator at the Foundation Establishment stage, his voice chillingly indifferent with not a trace of emotion.
