Chapter 636: Chapter 635: Taking Action
"There might be a fight later, you two mustn’t come out of the forest," Yusuf Zuck said, pulling the two women back into the woods immediately after spotting an approaching fast horse, then sat down leaning against a tree.
"What’s wrong? Are you going to rob them?" Ember Vance asked, startled.
"No, someone is coming, and I suspect it has something to do with them," Yusuf Zuck pointed towards the people by the creek.
"Then why don’t you warn them so they can be prepared?" Ruth Wilcox asked, puzzled.
"No, we’ve just arrived here, and we can’t reveal everything too soon. I don’t want others to know I have the ability of ’Innate Sight’. We will wait and see how things unfold!"
"It seems they’ve let their guard down around us and started cooking again," Ember Vance pointed out, looking in the distance.
"You must be hungry too, right?" Yusuf Zuck apologized.
"Not really, I’m dieting. What about Sister Ruth?" Ember Vance looked at Ruth Wilcox.
"I can go two days without food and not be hungry," Ruth Wilcox replied, who was also dieting and didn’t eat much.
While the three of them were talking, the ground began to vibrate, and from afar, they heard the sound of galloping hooves.
The sixteen guards heard it too. Those who had begun to eat all stood up, swiftly surrounded the two carriages together, and shoved the women and children inside.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa—" The twenty-some large horses suddenly reined in at the same time, and several of them neighed loudly.
The twenty-some men dressed for combat, all with their faces covered, stopped as well, tens of meters away.
After a brief moment of chaos, the atmosphere became eerily silent. The twenty-some men and the sixteen guards faced each other from a distance, the old nanny grasping a kitchen knife, and the old steward reaching for the whip.
"Hmph. Kill them all except for the children!" the leading man in black snorted angrily, then spurred his horse, which charged forward.
Following him were the whooshing sounds of arrows cutting through the air, as several archers took aim and fired from a distance.
The sixteen guards grunted angrily, but they didn’t panic; instead, they formed a defensive formation, and each guard had a small shield hanging on their left arm.
The twenty-some men charged, and the whooshing sharp arrows thudded non-stop against their shields, some even hitting their lower legs. A fierce skirmish unfolded before the astonished eyes of Yusuf Zuck, Ruth Wilcox, and Ember Vance.
Without a word exchanged, when the two sides collided, what followed was the clanging of cold steel.
Yusuf Zuck saw a guard’s chest pierced open, a man in black’s throat severed, and hot blood splattered, accompanied by the cries of horses and men!
Ruth Wilcox and Ember Vance dared not watch any longer because it was too bloody and too cruel. There—it was a battlefield. It was as if they had truly been reincarnated in a dream, and upon waking, found themselves in this... this different Cold World.
"I’m going to help; they’re not going to last," Yusuf Zuck decided not to stand by idly. He needed an identity, needed to quickly understand this world, and also needed guides.
Of course, he also had to repay the kindness of two sets of clothes, so he stood up, leaped out, and sprinted towards the crowd!
Those clad in black, engaged in a fierce battle, were startled when they saw someone suddenly jump out from the forest, but these clearly well-trained assassins didn’t all react; many continued to fight, with only two wielding horse-cutting sabers charging towards him in an attempt to stop him.
As he ran, Yusuf Zuck threw out the dagger in his hand, which shot like a streak of light and swiftly embedded itself in the forehead of one of the men.
Just as the dagger pierced one man’s forehead, Yusuf Zuck used the momentum to leap off a horse’s head, quickly pulled the dagger free, and with a swift turn of his body, he had already sliced off another man’s head!
His movements were incredibly fast and fierce, executed in one fluid motion. Most importantly, he didn’t stop after dispatching the two men; instead, he continued to rush forward, plunging into the midst of the fray.
"What an awesome move, so cool!" Ember Vance boasted with pride. Was this her man? So impressive, killing a man within ten steps without leaving a trace!
"I didn’t know he was so formidable..." Ruth Wilcox muttered, pursing her lips.
With the arrival of Yusuf Zuck and his swift hunting, the crowd finally descended into chaos. The black-clad leader also leaped down from the horse and swung his sabre towards him.
But... these people were all too weak; most of them were just practicing Fasting, with only the black-clad leader having barely reached the Innate level!
Watching the leader come to fight him, Yusuf Zuck snorted coldly and casually threw his dagger, piercing the heart of someone attempting to sneak attack from behind. At the same time, he rolled on the ground, picked up the Horse-cutting Saber, and swept past the black-clad leader.
"Pfff—" The black-clad leader didn’t even have the chance to strike before he was sliced in half by Yusuf Zuck.
"Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh, swoosh, swoosh—" Yusuf Zuck was like a demon leaping out of Hell, relentlessly chasing and leaping after his prey. Moments later, all twenty-two black-clothed strongmen lay dead.
He had killed twenty of them himself, while two had been slain by the guards.
Of course, six guards had also perished.
Yusuf Zuck retrieved his dagger and wiped it on the garments of a corpse before turning around and walking away.
"We owe you our lives, noble sire," the woman led the child out of the carriage quickly and bowed to Yusuf Zuck’s retreating figure, while the guards also knelt on one knee, fists clasped in gratitude!
"No need to be polite, thanks for the use of your clothes," Yusuf Zuck waved his hand and strode into the forest.
"Let’s go, we should leave as well," Yusuf Zuck winked at the two women.
"Aren’t we supposed to stay with them?" Ember Vance caught on, feeling it odd. Yusuf Zuck had intervened presumably with some motive, so why did he suddenly want to leave?
Yusuf Zuck chuckled: "If they don’t ask us to stay, we shouldn’t impose. Let’s keep going along the road and see what happens next."
"Oh, oh, oh, playing hard to get—I get it now," Ember Vance giggled!
"Yusuf Zuck, you’re so amazing, aren’t you?" Ruth Wilcox was also exceedingly happy at this time. Apart from flying, Yusuf Zuck fighting had been so cool just now, his movements were swift, and he seemed just like a hero, exuding an incredibly graceful air.
"These people were just very ordinary small fry; I didn’t even use half of my strength, so killing them was effortless," Yusuf Zuck shook his head. These people were leagues apart from cultivators.
"Yusuf Zuck, Yusuf Zuck, they are following us..." As the trio walked south along the main road, two horse-drawn carriages and the ten guards also hastened after them. Although their pace wasn’t fast, they reached behind Yusuf Zuck and the others in a few minutes.
"Noble sire, please wait." The woman lifted the curtain of the carriage, jumped down, and bowed to Yusuf Zuck and to Ruth Wilcox and Ember Vance, saying, "Noble sire, are the two mistresses going to Ji Province Prefecture?"
"Ji Province Prefecture?" Yusuf Zuck and the two women looked at each other, figuring out that this road must lead to some Ji Province Prefecture.
"Indeed, that’s our destination!" Yusuf Zuck nodded.
"That’s wonderful! We are also heading to Ji Province Prefecture. Noble sire and mistresses, please board our carriage. For today’s kindness, once we arrive at Ji Province Prefecture, I shall repay you generously!"
"Great, great, we get to ride in a carriage! I’ve never ridden in this type of horse..." Ember Vance began clapping her hands excitedly but was promptly silenced by Yusuf Zuck’s glare.
Yusuf Zuck smiled, "That’s fine, I can’t expect them to walk with me all the way to Ji Province Prefecture. Thank you."
"Mistresses, please board, there’s plenty of room inside," the woman courteously invited Ruth Wilcox and Ember Vance into the carriage.
Yusuf Zuck didn’t board the carriage; instead, he found a spare chestnut stallion at the rear and swiftly mounted it.
