Chapter 630: Chapter 629: Bad News
Under the stalactites at the bottom of the secluded cave, the spiritual energy really seemed to be abundant. After Yusuf Zuck began meditating, he swiftly entered a state of deep concentration, and strands of nature’s spiritual energy penetrated his body through every pore. Although the process was still rather slow, it was much faster than in the city. He relished this sensation, this feeling of merging with the universe, and devoted himself wholeheartedly to it.
The next day, as the dawn broke, Ruth Wilcox woke up and checked her phone only to find there was no signal. She turned back to look at Yusuf Zuck and saw what seemed like a mist enveloping his body, making him look like a true immortal!
She propped her chin on her hands and just stared at him, finding him more and more handsome the longer she watched. It’s said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and now she simply couldn’t get enough of looking at Yusuf Zuck.
While Yusuf Zuck sat there, she sat at a distance, simply gazing at him—she enjoyed this feeling of silent companionship.
"Should I choose to be his immortal consort or to grow old with him as man and wife?" Ruth Wilcox pondered. Yusuf Zuck had now achieved some level of cultivation; he could even fly, which she had witnessed with her own eyes. Even after entering the mountains, Yusuf Zuck had carried her through the sky for a good long while. That feeling was truly unprecedented.
She felt exhilarated, proud, and wanted to scream it out loud.
Her man was capable of anything, even the Ross Family had submitted to him, it was just like a dream.
By noon, when hunger struck, she cooked a pot of rice, then took the ready-to-eat vegetables and meat from their luggage and made a pot of steaming, delicious food.
They had brought along an ample supply of provisions. Yusuf Zuck was strong and had packed a bag full of food, so living in this place for ten days or even half a month would be no problem.
"Honey, it’s time to eat..." After the meal was ready, Ruth Wilcox thought for a moment and then shyly called out "Honey." Although she called with a low voice and felt embarrassed, she still said it.
She was quite traditional by nature. Since she had given herself to Yusuf Zuck, she belonged to him. Whether he was rich or poor, mortal or divine, he was her man. She loved him and so he truly deserved her calling him "Honey!"
However, it seemed as though Yusuf Zuck hadn’t heard her and continued his cultivation.
She muttered a little curse under her breath annoyed, and then started to eat by herself.
After filling herself with food and drink alone, she crawled back into the tent to read, while Yusuf Zuck still showed no signs of movement.
Before she knew it, three days had passed. Yusuf Zuck had been meditating in the stone forest for three days. Even though he hadn’t eaten anything, he felt incredibly refreshed and sensed a slight improvement in his cultivation level, which had certainly become more consolidated than before.
"Ruth, I’m sorry to have made you feel lonely..." When Yusuf Zuck crawled back into the tent, seeing Ruth Wilcox deeply engrossed in her book, he took her hand, full of apologies.
"Hold me tight—" Ruth suddenly opened her arms and said.
Yusuf Zuck promptly collapsed into her embrace.
Ruth laughed, "I’m not lonely because you are here, and I’ve never felt such peace before. When I lived in the metropolitan city, I could never calm my heart, but now, here, I feel like it’s strengthening my will and temperament. And I feel incredibly happy!"
"There’s a saying that where you are is my heaven. Now that I have you, you are my heaven," Ruth Wilcox became completely docile, no longer the tigress or the strong woman. She was just a newlywed wife camping with her husband.
Of course, this newlywed wife was somewhat aggrieved because her man couldn’t seem to perform!
"I like that saying, such a good girl," Yusuf Zuck laughed heartily.
"Good girl, what? It’s a pity you’re not capable, ah, I’m guarding a... live... live..." Ruth Wilcox started to giggle non-stop while Yusuf Zuck glared at her as if wishing he could gobble her up!
"Alright, alright, I surrender. I’m just joking with you. I know you’re the most amazing!" Ruth Wilcox teased him.
"Smart move. Let’s go out of the cave, catch some game, maybe a few fish, and also make a call to check on the family!" Yusuf Zuck picked up his phone and took Ruth Wilcox’s hand as they walked out.
It had been more than three days without contact, and according to their daily contact agreement, Yusuf wanted to ask about the situation at home.
But there probably wouldn’t be any issues. The Blood Race had many experts present, and Fleur Carson had a large team from Skeward Security, so there were few threats to their loved ones in this world anymore.
Once outside the cave, they were greeted by the bright sunshine. Ruth stretched lazily and whined, "Carry me."
Yusuf swiftly hoisted her onto his back and with a few leaps, they arrived at the riverside.
"There really are fish here! You make the call to check on the family; I’m going to catch some fish!" Yusuf excitedly shoved the phone into Ruth’s hands, then jumped straight into the creek.
The creek wasn’t deep, just enough to cover the ankles. There were little fish nesting among the rocks. Yusuf reached in and easily caught a palm-sized cold-water fish. It was a fine-scale fish, sure to be very delicious!
"Yay, my husband is the best!" Ruth cheered, holding up the phone without having made the call yet.
"What did you just call me?" Yusuf laughed heartily. The word "husband" from Ruth had turned his bones to jelly, and he almost wished to carry her back to the cave and battle it out with her for three hundred rounds!
"Not telling you, I’m making the call!" Ruth’s face flushed as she swiftly turned on the phone, then dialed Miles O’Brien’s number.
The phone connected quickly, and after just two rings, it was answered—by Fleur Carson!
"What are you doing with Miles O’Brien’s phone?" Ruth suddenly demanded sternly.
"Ms. Wilcox... Where is Yusuf? Put him on the phone," Fleur’s voice was extremely low, laced with an indescribable bitterness.
"What happened? Is something wrong?" Hearing Fleur’s off-tone voice, Ruth became instantly anxious. She had been in contact with Fleur long enough to know something was off by the tone of her voice!
"Give the phone to Yusuf, quickly," urged Fleur.
"Okay, okay, wait a sec," Ruth replied, somewhat panicked because she didn’t know what was going on, which made her anxious.
"What’s wrong?" Yusuf had already caught six fish and thrown them onto the shore; he came over and took the phone.
"Yusuf, listen to me," Fleur said solemnly, "Something happened at home over the past few days. Ariel... She’s dead!"
"What?" Yusuf felt as if he had been struck by lightning, and his body stiffened in shock!
"What happened?" Yusuf’s voice trembled.
"Three people came out of the Dragon Gate Passage three days ago. They came to the capital, looking for you. Then they kidnapped Paisley Kirk and killed Ariel. Miles was so terrified that she’s been out of her senses, still not recovered. However, I just got the news; the three people have left, and the Dragon Gate Passage has closed too. They only stayed for three days, and it seems they couldn’t find you, not just domestically but also abroad. But they took... little Paisley."
"Yusuf... Yusuf... Are you listening?" Fleur suddenly realized Yusuf had gone silent, so she asked loudly and nervously.
"I’m coming back to the capital immediately!" The call was cut off, and Fleur had no idea what was happening on Yusuf’s end!
At the same time, Yusuf rushed back into the cave like the wind, only grabbed his Purple Light Sword, then after coming out, he hoisted Ruth into the air and soared into the sky!
