Chapter 540: Chapter 539: Candid and Fiery

"Let’s not talk about those things anymore. You’re all better now, aren’t you?" Seeing Ember Vance’s eyes redden, Yusuf Zuck was also filled with emotion and waved his hand to signal her not to bring up the past.

Ember Vance murmured, "Later, you found a remarkable person from the capital, Everest Zuck, for treatment, and when that failed, you brought in the master of traditional Chinese medicine, David Hart, but even he couldn’t do anything, so you brought in a famous Monk. In the end, you left for many days, then returned with a Miao medicine practitioner, who used a sort of Miao gu to cure me, right?"

"Did your parents tell you this?" Yusuf Zuck nodded in affirmation.

"My dad told me. He said that without you, I wouldn’t be here today!" Ember Vance looked up at him.

"It wasn’t that serious," Yusuf Zuck said with a smile, shaking his head.

"What are you doing now?" asked Ember Vance, suddenly.

Yusuf Zuck thought for a moment, "I’ve started a company. It’s involved in many things."

"Why did you come to see me today?"

"I heard someone was pursuing you, and it made me uncomfortable. I wanted to stir things up and break you two apart!" Yusuf Zuck admitted bluntly.

"And then?" Ember Vance couldn’t help but sigh.

"And then?" Yusuf Zuck looked at her and smiled, "Well, right now, I’m asking you out to dinner."

"Pff—" Ember Vance laughed again and gazed at Yusuf Zuck, "Are you trying to pursue me again?"

"It was you who pursued me before!" Yusuf Zuck claimed innocently.

"Ah? I pursued you?" Ember Vance said incredulously.

"Yeah, there was a girl who, just because she had a gun tucked in her waist, would point it at my forehead on a whim. One time, while eating at her place, she suddenly drew her gun and pointed it at me, asking, ’Do you want to be with me or not?’

"I was totally freaked out back then..."

"I was too violent, wasn’t I?" Ember Vance grinned, her face full of disbelief.

"There were things even more violent than that..."

"That’s just your side of the story, it can’t be taken as truth," Ember Vance pouted.

"That’s why, lately, I’ve been thinking about how to restore your lost memories. If I could pull you back from the brink of death, then I can cure your amnesia."

Ember Vance nodded and boldly said to Yusuf Zuck, "That day, when you left my house, for some reason, I cried all night. I thought you had given up on me."

"I never thought of giving up on you, especially when I saw you walking the streets late at night with another man. To be honest, I couldn’t stand it, so I had someone keep an eye on Clay Parham."

"That’s illegal," Ember Vance reminded him.

"I’ve broken the law for you, and you’ve done the same for me. The reason I’m telling you this today is because I know you. Even if you learn I’m breaking the law, you wouldn’t tell anyone, would you?"

"Alright, I admit you know me pretty well..." Ember Vance said, speechless.

"You’re mine," Yusuf Zuck suddenly stated.

"What?" Ember Vance was eating, but she looked up sharply.

"You were mine before, you are mine now, and you’ll still be mine in the future."

"I don’t think I agreed to anything, did I?" Ember Vance said with a smile that couldn’t decide if it was happy or sad.

"That doesn’t need your agreement. What’s mine is mine," Yusuf Zuck said with an undeniable certainty.

"I’ve realized that you are quite domineering," Ember Vance lifted her shoulders.

Yusuf Zuck also shrugged his shoulders, agreeing with Ember Vance’s observation.

The two of them chatted and ate, even having a few drinks. In the end, Ember Vance picked up the tab, with Yusuf Zuck not insisting on paying.

"Why didn’t you pay the bill? Isn’t it customary for a guy to pick up the tab when on a date with a girl? When I was about to pay, why didn’t you offer to do it?" After getting into the car, Ember Vance couldn’t help her curiosity. Yusuf Zuck had none of the attitude of someone pursuing a girl, unlike Clay Parham, who always rushed to do everything.

"We had agreed that you would treat me to the meal," Yusuf replied with a smile.

"Fine, I’ve come to realize that you lack gentlemanly manners," Ember said, once again at a loss for words.

After a moment of silence, Yusuf then said, "The reason Clay Parham rushes to do everything when he’s with you is that he’s pursuing you, because you two aren’t as familiar with each other as the left hand is with the right."

"What do you mean?" Ember asked, puzzled.

"Haven’t you seen many couples where the wife goes to pay the bill when they go out to eat? In a family, there’s no need for politeness, even to the point where some husbands would say, ’Go pay the bill, what are you waiting for?’"

"You make some sense. By the way, the wound on your hand... the one I bit, has it healed?" Ember suddenly remembered that she had bitten Yusuf’s wrist quite badly a few days before.

"It healed long ago, it’s been many days," Yusuf said, shaking his head.

...

A moment later, the BMW drove directly into the residential area where Ember lived, but just before reaching her home, Yusuf stopped the car at the corner.

"We’re still a ways off, why stop here? Come in for a visit," Ember invited.

"No, Clay Parham is eating at your place, it wouldn’t be good for me to go," Yusuf shook his head.

"How do you know that?" Ember was stunned, then doubtful. Yusuf had been with her all the while, and he hadn’t made any phone calls or anything, so how did he know that Clay Parham was at her house for dinner?

"Heh, let’s call it a day. I might fly to Harbor Island tomorrow and will be back in a few days. Then, I’ll invite you to dinner, and I’ll pick up the tab."

"Oh," Ember seemed reluctant to leave the car. In fact, she had really enjoyed chatting with Yusuf. He was different, humorous, and funny. Compared to Clay Parham, he simply outshone Clay – although Clay was not bad either, he lacked a certain... human touch.

Indeed, everything Clay did was a bit too much to handle. It wasn’t that he wasn’t doing it well, but that doing it too well was the problem in itself. Even Ember thought there must be something wrong with Clay mentally.

"I was going through the closet the other day and found a set of men’s clothes, with underwear and everything, they are yours, right?" Ember suddenly asked in a low voice, her face flushing because there were men’s boxer briefs among them.

"Yes," Yusuf nodded, as he had indeed changed clothes at Ember’s place.

"If it’s inconvenient, I can send someone to pick them up later," Yusuf considered.

"That’s not what I meant... just confirming. I’m off, bye!" Ember opened the car door and jumped out, then ran back to her house.

Her face was beet red because she had really... been intimate with him.

Yusuf didn’t linger for too long and drove straight home. He knew he had to take things slow with Ember; there was no rushing it.

...

And just after Yusuf left, Ember, who hadn’t gone back to the villa, stretched her neck to take a look into the distance and then patted her chest, feeling a surge of irritation. What was Clay thinking, coming to her home for dinner?

She strode into the villa.

Clay was indeed dining there, along with her parents. There were four dishes on the table, and the three of them seemed like a family, laughing and talking.

"Ember, you’re back? Have you eaten?" As Ember walked in, Clay stood up with a smile.

"What are you doing here? Who let you in?" Ember felt a sudden irrational rush of anger for no apparent reason.

Clay’s smile froze.

At that moment, Ember’s mother glared at her and scolded, "What are you talking about, child? It was I who asked Clay to come."

"Indeed, Ember, don’t talk nonsense," Ember’s father also glared at her. Was their daughter on the wrong medication today?

"Clay Parham, let’s break up. I’m officially breaking up with you. Just like that, don’t come to my house in the future, or I might hit you. And you two, if you should be researching at school, then do that; if you should be doing business, then do that. Don’t interfere in my business anymore!" She was frank and explosive, not sparing anyone’s feelings.
