Invisible Security Guard -
Chapter 539 - 538: Our Past
Chapter 539: Chapter 538: Our Past
Ember Vance could take the initiative to invite Yusuf Zuck to dinner, and this was within Yusuf’s expectations, because although she had lost some memories, her nature hadn’t changed. She was still Ember Vance, straightforward, loyal, and passionate.
So today, when she saw Yusuf Zuck again, she was bound to invite him to dinner.
Yusuf Zuck left the office first, then he quietly waited for her outside the main entrance, as Ember Vance was changing clothes.
And just when Ember Vance hadn’t come out yet, an Audi A6 slowly drove up and stopped behind the BMW.
A slight smile appeared on Yusuf Zuck’s lips, as Clay Parham arrived right on schedule.
Clay Parham, in a white shirt and black trousers, looked handsome and radiant. He must have been over six feet tall. When he got out of the car, he didn’t go inside immediately but rather looked confusedly at Yusuf Zuck.
That’s right, the Yusuf Zuck leaning against the car seemed familiar to him.
"Remember now, the guy who wanted to die?" With his strong memory, Clay Parham’s eyebrows shot up. That day, this man wanted to have himself run over by his car, clearly heartbroken and seeking death.
"Hey, buddy, what are you doing here? Do you remember me?" Clay Parham walked up with a smile and greeted.
"Do I know you?" Yusuf Zuck looked at him strangely and said, "You must be mistaken."
"Uh..." Clay Parham was taken aback and evaluated Yusuf Zuck up and down, "That night... you... you forgot?" Clay Parham asked.
"Sorry, you’ve got the wrong person," Yusuf Zuck responded, not wanting to engage any further and continued to wait for Ember Vance.
Seeing Yusuf Zuck denying it, Clay Parham just shrugged his shoulders and then walked into the yard.
Just as he had taken a few steps, Ember Vance, now in casual clothes and carrying a bag, walked out.
Clay Parham approached her warmly.
Ember Vance stopped and looked towards the yard, her face slightly red as she said, "Clay Parham, you go back home by yourself. I have made dinner plans with a friend."
"Uh..." Clay Parham was startled for a moment, glanced mechanically at Yusuf Zuck, then nodded repeatedly and said, "Okay, sure. Then I’ll leave now. Be safe and go home early." Surprisingly, he didn’t ask anything and just smiled at Ember Vance before turning to leave the yard, got into his car, and drove away.
"Clay Parham is a decent guy," Yusuf Zuck said with a smile after Ember Vance had approached him.
"You know him?" Ember Vance asked in surprise.
"Let’s talk in the car," Yusuf Zuck said as he helped Ember Vance open the car door.
Ember Vance sat in the back, and Yusuf Zuck walked around to the driver’s side, fastened his seatbelt, and got into the car.
"I’ve investigated him," Yusuf Zuck said frankly as the car started.
"What?" Ember Vance opened her mouth and frowned upon hearing Yusuf’s words.
"When I saw the two of you together, I was afraid that this guy wasn’t good news and that you would be at a disadvantage, so I had someone check him out," Yusuf said indifferently.
"Oh," Ember Vance realized. Yusuf was worried about her, which is why he looked into Clay Parham.
"He was introduced by my aunt, we’ve only been seeing each other for less than a month," Ember Vance added after thinking for a bit.
"Do you like him?" Yusuf asked directly.
"You... What do you think? You understand me very well, don’t you? So, take a guess?" Ember Vance said, a bit reluctantly.
"I don’t like it!" Yusuf Zuck shook his head.
"Why?" Ember Vance asked curiously.
"Because you said you only liked me, ’Immortal’ and unchanging!"
"Cough..." Ember Vance’s face turned red in an instant. She wanted to tell Yusuf Zuck that she had lost all her memories and wasn’t sure whether she had said that before.
"Haha, just kidding." Yusuf Zuck laughed heartily. After thinking for a moment, he explained, "Actually, when I said you don’t like him, it’s because of your personality. In my impression, you have a knightly heart and admire heroes and heroines. Clay Parham is a bit too effeminate. Of course, I’m not belittling him; I’m just stating a fact. He has his merits, but lacks something... uh, a bit of fervor."
"You know me that well?" Ember Vance’s eyes widened with surprise. Yusuf Zuck was spot on. At first, Clay Parham made a good impression on her, maybe a ninety-five out of a hundred. But as she got to know him better, she found him utterly dull, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. Clay Parham did everything very well, perfectly even, but something was missing, an indescribable something. The more subservient he was to her, the more she found him boring.
"Hehe, if you hadn’t lost your memory, do you know what it was like when we first met?" Yusuf Zuck asked with a smile.
"What was it like?" Ember Vance asked curiously.
"Hehe, never mind, let’s go eat hot pot." Yusuf Zuck parked at a hot pot restaurant with a decent storefront and then walked in with Ember Vance.
"By the way, I haven’t thanked you yet. How did you do it? I’m really strong now. The other day at the station, I challenged all my colleagues to spar with me, and I knocked down more than a dozen of them. I’ve become a superwoman!"
"That’s what I hoped for." Yusuf Zuck handed a wet wipe to Ember Vance and wiped his own hands as he spoke, "The work you do is very dangerous, and if you can’t protect yourself, how will you protect the citizens later on? So, the stronger you are, the more at ease I feel."
"Oh, thank you." Ember Vance lowered her head. She could feel that the man in front of her cared about her to his core, even paying attention to her in secret.
"Can you tell me how we met? I want to hear about it." After the food arrived, Ember Vance looked at Yusuf Zuck, genuinely curious about how they started dating.
After thinking for a moment, Yusuf Zuck said, "I’ll make a long story short. It was like this: I used to be a security guard, and when you were working on a case, I must have been uncooperative, so you pointed your gun at my head, then I cursed at you, and you hit me on the head with your gun. Later, while you were taking a shower at home, I stole your gun and hid it under the flowerpot with the drip orchids outside your house. You couldn’t find your gun and almost died looking for it, then you bought a fake gun to replace it. Somehow, you suspected me, came to confront me, and I blackmailed you, let me... cough, cough, take liberties with you in exchange for telling you, you agreed while crying, but I didn’t take liberties with you!"
"After you found your gun, and then we got to know each other. There was this one time when you went to handle a few kidnappers..."
"I know, I’ve seen the file. All the kidnappers were shot dead by me, but I can’t do that, I can’t remember how it happened? Does this have anything to do with you?"
"I killed them. Only you know about it. At that time, I infiltrated the scene because you were heading there just after we had dinner. I drove you there, and seeing that the situation was tense, I didn’t feel safe about leaving you alone, so I followed you in. Then, I took care of those people for you. But, as an ordinary person, killing is against the law, so you could only claim it was your doing."
"That’s so thrilling?" Ember Vance’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
"There’s even more thrilling stuff after that."
"Then tell me quickly. I’m going to have some drinks today and toast to you!" Ember Vance urged Yusuf Zuck to continue, just as eager as someone listening to a captivating story.
After thinking for a bit, Yusuf Zuck went on, "Later on, I offended an underground power in the capital, and the person’s family had far-reaching influence. At that time, you took sides, and when someone gave me trouble, you just arrested them without caring who their father was, you dealt with them harshly, and nothing could sway you."
"Bud Trujillo, that’s him, right?" Ember Vance asked excitedly.
"Yep, that’s him."
"What else? Keep going," Ember Vance urged.
Stirring his drink, Yusuf Zuck said, "Then one day, I heard you were shot and hospitalized, and when I arrived at the hospital, they declared you brain dead..."
Ember Vance’s expression darkened and she lowered her head, her eyes suddenly reddening, "And then you couldn’t help but cough up three mouthfuls of blood, right?"
