Chapter 400: Chapter 399: A Person’s Name

At the stroke of three in the morning on the streets of Ulanqab, about thirty taxis—hazards flashing—had clustered together, encircling Nehemiah Blevins’s Toyota Land Cruiser.

Some of these taxis had passengers, while others only carried the driver.

That man called Antoine had not hung up the phone earlier with Mia, as though he was also aware of the situation here through the call.

He told Mia to follow the taxi drivers and check in somewhere to stay, and that he would arrive in Ulanqab in a little over an hour.

The taxis stopped outside a business hotel, where the manager, along with a few attendants, immediately came out to greet them.

"Mia, does your Uncle Antoine run a taxi company?" Yusuf Zuck asked with a smile as they walked.

"I don’t know," Mia truly didn’t know. All she had heard from Uncle Antoine was that he had influence over many areas in Mongolia, even beyond.

Nehemiah Blevins didn’t speak again but took his fishing gear into the hotel. Inside the bag were two double barrel guns he couldn’t leave in the car.

The three of them took separate rooms, and not long after they entered their rooms, hot porridge, egg custard, pastries, and other steaming night snacks were promptly delivered.

The service from the hotel was very considerate.

After eating two bowls of porridge and a bowl of egg custard, Yusuf Zuck went to the window to smoke. Looking down accidentally, he was surprised to see that not a single one of the thirty or so taxis had left. They still gathered outside the hotel, with occasional flashes of light inside as drivers lit their cigarettes.

After Nehemiah Blevins hid his bag in his own room and ate some night snacks, he went to Yusuf Zuck’s room. A few minutes after Nehemiah Blevins arrived, Mia was also there. The three gathered in Yusuf Zuck’s room.

"Look at the fuss you’ve made," said Yusuf Zuck, pointing out the window and chiding with a laugh, "Can’t I protect you? Yet you seek help from others!"

"Of course you can protect me. But didn’t you say we needed to return to Beijing today? We have to attend a wedding tomorrow. So, if we’re thinking about revenge, how could it be done in a single day, right? Besides, we don’t even know the situation with the other party. What if the police come and arrest us as soon as we show up at the pharmaceutical factory this morning? Wouldn’t that disrupt many things? As for Uncle Antoine, I’ve heard him say there’s nothing he can’t handle around here. I don’t know if that’s just boasting." Mia’s reasoning was very clear. She knew that Yusuf Zuck might have to arm-wrestle with that Boss Sun and that things might even lead to loss of life, but she didn’t want to see Yusuf Zuck breaking the law or making enemies because of her.

Yusuf Zuck wanted to protect her, but she also wanted to protect Yusuf Zuck.

So, asking for Uncle Antoine’s help was the best choice.

"Miss Tu," Nehemiah Blevins asked suddenly, "is... is... your Uncle Antoine called ’Antoine Cunningham’?"

"Huh? You know my Uncle Antoine?" Mia’s eyes lit up.

"Heard about him, never met him, well, with your Uncle Antoine stepping in, we shouldn’t have any problems," Nehemiah Blevins said, taking a deep breath. Antoine Cunningham—these four words were familiar to many, some called him the Prairie Wolf, others called him the Eternal Sky.

How should one describe him? Antoine Cunningham was as fierce as a wolf, roaming the vast steppes, but also like the Eternal Sky (a deity in Mongolian belief, also known as the Lord of Eternal Blue) in that he did many good deeds.

It can be said that wherever Antoine Cunningham went, the impoverished herdsmen would offer him mare’s milk tea and suutei tsai biscuits.

Furthermore, Antoine Cunningham’s business was not only extensive in Inner Mongolia but even greater in Outer Mongolia, where he was a distinguished guest of the local politicians and high-ranking officials.

At one point, Antoine Cunningham even became a bridge between the two Mongolias, not just economically, but also politically.

Antoine Cunningham was a legend, highly esteemed among the common people and awed in official circles. As for those in the underworld, when mentioning Antoine Cunningham, they would respectfully refer to him as Mr. Cunningham.

If we talk about being impressive, Antoine Cunningham is the most impressive of them all.

"What does your Uncle Antoine do?" Yusuf Zuck asked with a smile, looking toward Nehemiah Blevins. Mia might not know the exact identity of Antoine Cunningham, but Nehemiah Blevins clearly did.

"What does he do?" Nehemiah Blevins thought for a moment, "I guess he’s a businessman, the specifics I’m not sure about," Nehemiah Blevins said, shaking his head.

"Ring ring ring..." Just then, Nehemiah Blevins’s phone suddenly started ringing, and when he looked, it was Rylan Cortez’s number.

Still fuming, Nehemiah didn’t think twice before answering the call and yelled, "Rylan, what the hell is going on? Why are there cops? Why aren’t any of you here? Don’t tell me you had something to do with this!"

"Calm down, Nehemiah, I just ran back to the city myself, almost got caught. You didn’t get chased, did you?" Rylan asked.

"You got chased too?" Nehemiah was taken aback.

"Exactly, on our way back, we just happened to come across a police car, so we ran. I have no idea what got into these cops. Also, Mr. Sun is trying to contact us; people should be pulling out. This definitely isn’t because someone inside snitched, probably just a random check. Lately, there’s been a lot of poaching, but we’re just having fun, shooting a few for food. Those poachers kill hundreds at a time, and they mainly go after Tibetan antelopes!"

"Scared the hell out of me." Listening to Rylan ramble on through the phone, Nehemiah finally exhaled in relief, realizing it wasn’t Rylan’s doing, and he had nothing to do with it.

"Right, where did you run off to? Back to the villa or to your babe’s place in the city?" Rylan suddenly asked.

"In the city, didn’t go to my girl’s place, found a hotel to stay in, let’s talk everything else out in the morning," Nehemiah replied.

"I’m not going home either, where you at? I’ll come find you," Rylan asked cheerfully.

Nehemiah hesitated for a moment; he didn’t want to reveal the hotel’s location to anyone.

However, at that moment, Yusuf Zuck suddenly leaned in close to Nehemiah and then shouted into the phone, "Rylan, we’re at the Shengshi Hotel, come on over."

"Alright, be there in a jiff," Rylan chuckled and hung up.

"Yusuf, what do you mean by that? Why’d you go telling him our location? I’m telling you, Rylan, that guy’s capable of any dirty trick," Nehemiah expressed his worries.

"Just wait and see, stay in my room and don’t go out," Yusuf stood by the window, parting the curtains to look outside.

If tonight’s incident was related to Rylan, then it wouldn’t be Rylan who would be showing up later, but the police.

Mia’s phone also rang, and on the line Antoine Cunningham told her that he would arrive at Ulanqab in about twenty more minutes.

It had been forty minutes since their last call. Yusuf and the others had barely reached the hotel when Antoine Cunningham had already set off.

"Hey, what’s your girl’s status, that she even knows Antoine Cunningham?" Nehemiah whispered to Yusuf while Mia was on the phone.

"What’s it to you what her status is? Whatever status she has, she’s my girl," Yusuf chuckled.

"Alright, there’s nobody like you, Boss Yusuf," Nehemiah gave a thumbs up.

After Mia finished her call, another ten-plus minutes went by, and the other end said they were seeing Ulanqab already.

Right at that moment, a chorus of car horns suddenly rose from below; all the taxis were honking.

Yusuf, Mia, and Nehemiah quickly ran to the window, and then they saw several police cars without their lights flashing coming and stopping outside the hotel, while more than fifty people got out from about thirty taxis, effectively blocking the hotel entrance.

The cops had arrived—but they weren’t letting them in!
