Chapter 397 - 396: Hunting
Chapter 397: Chapter 396: Hunting
Nehemiah Blevins told Yusuf Zuck that the hunting friends were all celebrities from the city, either entrepreneurs or leaders of various bureaus and agencies, so no one cared, and it was very safe to hunt on the grassland at midnight without worrying about being seen or disturbing the peace.
Yusuf Zuck hadn’t hunted with a gun before and thought it was novel, so he pondered for a bit before leaving the room with Nehemiah Blevins, also knocking on Mia’s door.
"Whoa, you really dare to come? When did you become so brave?" Mia exaggeratedly commented after opening the door. Yusuf Zuck had the guts to knock on her door in the dead of night. When had he become so bold?
"Cut the crap, I’m going hunting. If you want to come, then join, otherwise go take a shower and sleep!"
"What do you think? Wherever you go, I go. I also want to hunt, to shoot!" Mia, unwilling to be left out, laughed heartily as she put on a military coat and followed Yusuf Zuck out.
Nehemiah Blevins drove a Toyota Land Cruiser, taking them along a small road deep into the grassland.
After about an hour, at around midnight, Yusuf Zuck and Mia saw a row of lights ahead. It wasn’t a villager’s home, but a line of off-road vehicles parked in the depths of the grassland, about seven or eight in total, with two large tents beside them and a pile of embers from a campfire that hadn’t yet died out.
"Hehe, today is a competition, and it’s going to be lively." Nehemiah Blevins parked the car and led Yusuf Zuck and Mia into one of the tents.
Inside, there were about seven or eight people, even including a couple of girls, and there was a charcoal stove inside for warmth.
"Little Nehemiah’s here, huh? Are these two your friends from the capital?" A burly man greeted them as they arrived.
"Rylan, let me introduce them. This is Yusuf Zuck, Yusuf the boss, and this is his girlfriend," Nehemiah Blevins introduced them.
"Hello, Rylan Cortez." Rylan Cortez himself greeted with an outstretched hand.
"Hello," Yusuf Zuck said with a smile as they shook hands.
"Hehe, from the capital? What kind of business are you in?" The other five men also crowded around. Among them was a potbellied man who clearly had the air of a leader, as well as some who didn’t look like good people.
"Boss Yusuf, let me introduce you. This is Boss Zhu, Boss Zhao, Boss Sun, Boss Yu, and Boss Wang," Rylan Cortez said as he individually introduced them, uniformly using the term ’boss’.
Of course, Yusuf Zuck knew that ’boss’ was just a surface label, and Rylan Cortez simply didn’t want to mention their true identities.
"Hehe, I just run a small restaurant, nothing major." Yusuf Zuck shook hands with each of the bosses, playing it cool. He was someone who could get along with anyone, speaking to people in their own tone and even to ghosts if need be. After all, he had mixed in society for quite a few years and was well versed in social niceties.
However, after shaking hands with these bosses, Sun, the boss, smiled and actively reached out to greet Mia, "Beauty from the capital, let’s get acquainted."
Nobody else made a sound or showed any intention to greet Mia, only Boss Sun, who seemed very enthusiastic.
Yusuf’s brows furrowed slightly at this. Nehemiah Blevins was known for his indulgence in wine, women, and wealth, and Boss Sun apparently wasn’t much better.
"I’m just his mistress. Why would I want to get to know a bunch of rough guys like you? Not interested," Mia replied while hooking her arm through Yusuf’s, her words carrying a joking tone, but she firmly refused without offending anyone. At least her words didn’t annoy anyone or make Boss Sun lose face.
"Hahaha." Hearing Mia’s response, everyone burst into laughter. At that moment, Nehemiah Blevins quickly stepped in to smooth things over, "Gentlemen, what’s the situation today? How are we going to play?"
"Same old rules, it doesn’t matter the weight or species, quantity wins. Whoever shoots the most is number one. Whoever shoots the least or none gets punished!" Boss Sun declared loudly.
"That’s the way it is!" Everyone nodded in agreement, planning to gather together after the game.
"What’s the punishment?" Nehemiah Blevins asked.
"Of course, it’s drinking," laughed Boss Sun heartily.
"Alright, it’s settled then. The one who shoots the least, ranking last, has to start with two bottles of Maotai on top of everything else. Any objections? Boss Yusuf, do you agree?" Rylan said cheerfully.
"No objections, my tolerance is pretty good!" Yusuf Zuck chuckled.
"All set, then, let’s take off. Gather here in two hours," everyone agreed and then stepped out of the tent. From another tent emerged about seven or eight people who took the driver’s seats, seemingly the drivers.
Nehemiah Blevins took out two double barrel guns from the trunk and grabbed a few boxes of bullets, tossing them to Yusuf Zuck and Mia, "Ever handled one of these?"
"Never have!" Yusuf Zuck shook his head.
"I have," Mia said with a quick twist of her mouth. "That gun of yours is trash. I’ve used a Roberto; yours isn’t a Roberto."
"Wow, Miss Tu is quite something," Nehemiah Blevins praised.
"Enough, let’s get in the car and chat along the way." Nehemiah Blevins took the wheel, instructing Mia to teach Yusuf Zuck how to load and fire the bullets.
"These are buckshot, tiny steel balls inside," Mia explained with real knowledge, even detailing the lethality and range. "They spread out like an umbrella when fired. Past a few dozen meters, they scatter widely, so when you spot the game, just shoot in its direction without aiming. Usually, you’ll hit the target."
"Where did you learn to shoot before?" Yusuf Zuck asked curiously.
"I’m a member of the Capital Shooting Club. When we get back to the capital, I’ll take you there. They’ve got a hunting range where you can play during the day," Mia replied with disdain, suggesting that hunting wasn’t a particularly high-end sport.
Nehemiah Blevins driving in front found it all quite remarkable, it seemed Yusuf Zuck’s girl was more than meets the eye, not just some chick he picked up, but someone of status.
"We’ve got one, a rabbit ahead, see it? Get ready." While Mia and Yusuf Zuck were talking, Nehemiah Blevins suddenly alerted them to a rabbit he had spotted. Yusuf Zuck also looked forward following the light and saw the rabbit’s eyes reflecting two beams of Edmond Frost, bright and shiny, sprinting ahead non-stop.
The vehicle driven by Nehemiah Blevins was fast, quickly catching up. Yusuf Zuck and Mia rolled down their windows and extended their guns out.
With a "bang," Mia fired first, from the SUV at a distance of about fifty to sixty meters. Her shot flipped the rabbit over.
"Yay!" Mia screamed in victory.
Yusuf Zuck immediately got out of the car, ran to the rabbit, and picked up the wild rabbit, not dead but bleeding from the shot.
"Nice shooting," Nehemiah Blevins complimented.
"No kidding, haha," Yusuf Zuck laughed heartily, impressed by Mia.
"Come on, let’s see who can shoot more," Mia said with pride.
"Sure, but I don’t feel comfortable in the car. How about this: you shoot from the car, and I go the other way. We’ll keep in touch by phone, alright?" Yusuf Zuck suggested, holding up his mobile phone.
"But... isn’t it cold outside?" Mia asked, concerned.
"Yeah, Mr. Yusuf, it’s really cold outside. Your hands will freeze in no time, how will you shoot then? Get back in the car," Nehemiah Blevins said.
"No need, I want to fully enjoy this. I’m off." Yusuf Zuck pocketed thirty bullets and then headed in the opposite direction.
"Let’s go, I must shoot more than him. I can’t lose this time," Mia declared enthusiastically, urging Nehemiah Blevins to drive faster.
