Chapter 384: Chapter 383: Arrangement
"Everyone’s here? Then let me announce a few things," Yusuf Zuck laughed as he looked at the crowd crammed into the room. "First, Marlon Shepherd is getting married on the twenty-second, but I’ve sent him to Australia for work, and he won’t be back for a couple of days. Since his wife can’t manage everything alone, everyone, including myself, will follow her orders for the next few days. We might have to pick up relatives at the train station or airport, and we’ll also need to run errands for her. As long as we can be there whenever we’re called, that’s fine."
"The second thing is that after Marlon Shepherd’s wedding, once we’re done with the festivities, everyone will head back home. Cover your own travel expenses upfront and we’ll reimburse you with receipts."
"And another thing, don’t hurry back after the Spring Festival. Those who haven’t got passports should apply for one. Next year, I might have a project in Australia, and I’ll be sending people over."
"That’s about it. Tonight, we’ll go over to Marlon Shepherd’s place to get familiar, and also gather together. So, do any of you have any other matters?" Yusuf Zuck looked around at everyone.
"I do, Boss Zuck. The factory manager from Inner Mongolia called, asking when you’d go there!" Jerome Hart was in charge of communicating with the pharmaceutical factory in Inner Mongolia, and as the Chairman’s assistant, he was the one who spoke with Factory Manager Sonny King the most.
After thinking for a bit, Yusuf Zuck said, "Let me see... I’ll try to make a trip in the next couple of days, before the wedding."
"I’ve got something too, boss. Can I not go back to my hometown for the Spring Festival and stick with you?" Floyd Hart raised his hand.
"I...I...I want that too!" Delaney Valencia also raised his hand.
"I’m not going back either. I’ve only been out for a few days. My family doesn’t need this ’piece of stinky meat’ for New Year’s!" Uriel Arellano raised his hand as well.
At this point, Samuel Ross laughed and said, "Heh, boss, looks like none of us are going back for Spring Festival. As for the passports, we can apply for them even if we’re not local. Even though Officer Lu is in the hospital, his uncle is still around. I’ve already got to know him, and we can just find him after the New Year. It isn’t anything illegal or disciplined."
"None of you are going back? Not going home? Listen, during the New Year, the elders at home are all looking forward to their children returning for a reunion. Don’t give me any excuses. I’m also spending the New Year with my old man and sister, so all of you should get back to your own homes."
"And didn’t I give you all bonuses? Give some to your families. Don’t just mess around outside all the time. When the New Year comes, no one will be with you. That’s decided then, everyone goes home!"
"All right, the boss has spoken. We’ll all go back," Samuel Ross said with a smile and a shake of his head. They were used to being wild outside, and going back home to face their parents was uncomfortable; they wouldn’t stay for long.
"Yusuf Zuck, I’ve got something too." At this moment, Louise Garrett gave Yusuf Zuck a meaningful look.
"Let’s go outside and talk!" After all, Louise Garrett was his confidante, so if she was signaling him, it must be something private that wasn’t meant for others to hear.
In fact, Louise Garrett wasn’t worried about others hearing, but she preferred not to say it in such a setting.
Once the two of them were in the corridor, Louise Garrett whispered, "My sister just called. She’s come to the capital with her boyfriend and wants to meet with me. I promised to introduce you to them and also promised to take them out for a meal. Do you... do you have time tonight?"
"Of course, I have time. Even if I didn’t, I’d make time," Yusuf Zuck laughed. "We must meet, and we must be the ones to treat them. And in the future, just phone me for such matters."
"I knew you wouldn’t hesitate with these kinds of things," Louise Garrett gave Yusuf Zuck a profound look. He was straightforward and direct, which was an admirable quality. He didn’t conceal things, wasn’t petty, and had a manly demeanor.
"I might hesitate with others, but not with you," Yusuf Zuck shook his head.
"Enough already, we’re an old couple. No need for the mushy talk," Louise Garrett glared at him.
"We still need to visit Marlon Shepherd’s place tonight. Do this: you call and book a restaurant. Let’s eat early in the afternoon, starting at five, then make sure we are at Marlon Shepherd’s house by seven promptly. After we’ve been there, we also need to take them out for another meal," Yusuf Zuck pointed towards the room where everyone was. He always talked about treating the whole team to dinner, but it never quite happened.
"Okay, what do you want to eat?" Miles O’brien took out his phone.
"Anything with meat is fine. I’ve been craving meat these days. But oh..." Yusuf Zuck suddenly remembered something, squinting his eyes as he said, "The year is almost over, and you need to prepare some New Year gifts. We’ll need to visit Boss Hao and Boss Liu, as well as Anna Cooke’s place. Prepare one for Everest Zuck and Khaza Zuck too, Sonny King in Inner Mongolia, your parents, Xiao Liang’s parents, the Petty family’s patriarch—make it ten portions in total. The gifts shouldn’t be too light, nor too extravagant, just the usual New Year goods."
"Also, stock up on some specialties from the capital city, like dried fruits. Samuel Ross and the rest probably won’t buy anything for the New Year either, so you take care of that. When the time comes, just bring the stuff and load up the car."
"You’re really attentive, aren’t you?" Miles O’brien was speechless for a moment. Yusuf Zuck seemed like he didn’t bother with anything, but his attention to detail was better than anyone else’s—he thought of everything you couldn’t even imagine.
"I have to be. It used to be just me; ’If one is full, the whole family isn’t hungry.’ Now that I’m responsible for so many people, I have to think of everything."
"Mm, I’ll take care of it these next couple of days. I’ll book a restaurant first. Let’s have roast duck," Miles O’brien said as she dialed to make a reservation.
Yusuf Zuck knew this meal had to happen. Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’brien went to Japan, after all—they risked their lives to save him, so it was only natural to treat them to a meal.
As for Felicity being unfriendly to him, that was normal too. Who could blame her when he was so out of line? But he couldn’t afford to be negligent. He should act as he ought to, being a grown man; it’s unreasonable to quarrel with a young girl.
Of course, he also knew that Russ Trujillo and Felicity probably had their own agenda for coming, but he could just refuse during the meal if necessary.
"Samuel Ross, make a restaurant reservation for 7:30 tonight. Everyone should be there—we’ll all go have a meal together!" Yusuf Zuck opened the door again and told Samuel Ross to book the restaurant.
"Maybe we shouldn’t?" Samuel Ross felt a headache coming on as soon as he heard about Yusuf Zuck’s plan for a dinner. Whenever Yusuf arranged something, he ran off by himself. If he didn’t show up, he’d leave everyone hanging at the restaurant.
"Why not? We’re having dinner together tonight," Yusuf Zuck said, puzzled.
"You’re not going to stand everyone up today, are you?" Samuel Ross asked anxiously.
"Pfft..." Yusuf Zuck immediately understood Samuel Ross’s concern.
Yusuf Zuck awkwardly said, "No, no, I definitely won’t. I’ll be there tonight for sure."
"Right, Memphis Blackwell, Mary—Sister-in-law—you can’t stand me up tonight. I have something to discuss with Memphis Blackwell this evening!" Yusuf Zuck looked towards Anais Dillon and Mary Berger. Their arrival today meant they had made their decision to join his side.
Since Isaac Quintana didn’t make it, he probably hadn’t decided yet. However, having the detective couple, Anais Dillon and Mary Berger, on board was great news. Their expertise would make Samuel Ross’s team even stronger.
"I’m going to have a few good drinks with you tonight," Anais Dillon said with a smile.
Mary Berger also smiled. Yusuf Zuck was considerate in every aspect, and they, as a couple, probably wouldn’t be at a disadvantage in the future!
