Chapter 357: There’s a Way

Chapter 357: Chapter 357: There’s a Way

Hearing the last phone call of Lucy Clayton’s life, Yusuf Zuck felt as if his heart was being twisted by a knife. In truth, Lucy Clayton hadn’t committed any serious wrongdoing, his only faults being injuring one of their own and peeping on a young nurse. Whatever wrongdoings he had committed in the past had nothing to do with him.

But now, in his attempt to help, he had died in a foreign land.

"Lucy Clayton, wait for me. If you manage to survive, then we’re brothers!" Yusuf was the type who would forgo women for brotherhood, so he was determined to go to Japan. If Lucy was still alive after he arrived in Japan, then from that moment on, Lucy would be one of his people, like Samuel Ross and the rest of his crew.

Of course, Yusuf was also aware that the chances of Lucy’s survival were slim, or perhaps nonexistent.

"Yusuf, what’s wrong?" Everest Zuck suddenly asked, noticing Yusuf’s distress, and Rachel Fournier and Sophia likewise sensed that something had happened to Yusuf, as his eyes were red.

"It’s nothing, let’s keep moving." Yusuf didn’t want to dwell on it and urged them to continue.

The group of four eventually made their way to the county city, then took a train to Guiyang, and afterward a flight to the capital city.

Although he hadn’t been in the capital these past days, a lot had happened there.

Firstly, a girl from the Petty Family came to learn the arts, though Yusuf had asked Samuel Ross to take care of her reception.

Then, Marlon Shepherd had taken his team of experts and Fatty Ma to Australia. Ruth Wilcox had also become the general manager of the New Century enterprise.

There was no progress on Ember Vance’s part, and the Vance Family was still awaiting his return with the miraculous doctor.

Four or five days later, Yusuf brought back another miraculous doctor—a girl not yet twenty, clad in splendid silver ornaments and carrying a bamboo basket on her back.

Ember Vance’s parents and her uncle welcomed Sophia and the group at the hospital. After exchanging pleasantries in the corridor, Yusuf led Sophia inside.

"Oh, there is still breath..." The young girl checked the pulse, flipped the eyelids, and listened to the heartbeat before making such a remark.

The Vance Family was momentarily stunned. No breath would mean death—why would they seek her out if it were a dead person?

Of course, the Vance Family was polite and did not take her remark to heart.

"That’s exactly why I sought you out. Do you have a way?" Yusuf whispered.

Sophia shook her head, "I don’t know, I need to try."

"How will you try? How will you treat it?" Yusuf persisted.

"I’ll proceed in two steps. We’ll start with the first one, and if that works, we’ll complement it with some medication treatment for the next step."

"Please save her, I’m begging you." Yusuf stood up and bowed deeply to the young girl.

"Again, you’ve said this how many times on the way here—I need to try. I’m not sure if I can cure her. Alright, alright, I’m starting now. You stay, the rest should leave," Sophia turned to the three heads of the Vance Family, her healing process apparently requiring secrecy.

"Can we stay? We promise we won’t talk or disturb you, and we won’t speak about anything we see," Ace Vance, the vice-minister, said with a strong voice.

"Let them stay. They are not outsiders," Yusuf indicated to Sophia with a nod.

"Fine, fine, just don’t talk loudly, and don’t stop me, or I won’t treat her," Sophia conceded, considering Yusuf’s wishes.

Everyone from the Vance Family nodded in agreement, giving their assurances.

"Okay, I’ll start with the first step to see. This process might take a while, or it might be quick. Here I go, nobody talk. If you startle it, it won’t be treatable," the young girl said mysteriously, and as she spoke, she slowly opened her mouth.

And the moment she opened her mouth, a chubby golden moth crawled out.

Indeed, in the eyes of Yusuf, it was nothing but a large moth, something akin to a large bee or moth, yet not quite either.

"Cicada!" When Yusuf Zuck was so startled that his eyes popped and he was lost for words, he suddenly remembered something, the Golden Cicada. He had heard of Gu-raising before, and one of the Gu was called the Golden Cicada Gu.

Ember Vance’s parents and her second uncle were also bewildered as they watched a plump, fleshy worm crawl out of the little girl’s mouth. Ember’s parents felt nauseous, while Ace Vance took several deep breaths, quite excited. Such a thing of legend had actually appeared and he had witnessed it with his own eyes.

"Little Gold, be good and go take a look inside her head, help me cure her, and then I’ll give you lots and lots of tasty treats. She’s a pitiful person, be nice, listen to me," Sophia coaxed like she was talking to a child, holding the Golden Cicada between two fingers and placing it near Ember Vance’s mouth.

And it appeared as if the Golden Cicada understood her words, wriggling twice by Ember’s mouth then burrowing into it.

"There won’t be any issues, right?" Yusuf Zuck asked softly.

"No, it can go directly to the depths of your little lover’s Primordial Spirit, and since it possesses spiritual nature itself, it will initiate the healing on its own."

"What kind of delicacies does it need? I’ll go prepare them!" said Yusuf Zuck.

"Pigeon’s blood, silkworm pupae, just these two will do. Buy more, it eats a lot!"

"Uncle Vance, I’ll have to trouble you to send someone to buy them!" Yusuf Zuck hinted to Ace Vance with a gesture.

"Alright, I will see to it right away!" Ace Vance nodded and left.

Just after Ace Vance had left, Sophia suddenly let out a soft exclamation, then spoke joyfully, "There’s hope, Little Gold has responded to me, saying it wants to stay inside for a few days!"

"What do you mean?" Yusuf Zuck asked, confused.

"It staying inside for a few days means it’ll nurture your little lover’s Primordial Spirit for that time. Mhm, that should about do it. I’ll prescribe some medicine, and then you’ll have to gather them. Nurturing the Primordial Spirit takes time, you know, it won’t do without ten days to half a month, and during this period it also needs to be treated with medicinal herbs." The little girl said while she took paper and pen from the table beside her and started writing the prescription.

She wrote down several dozen herbs, and after completing the prescription, she handed it to Yusuf Zuck, told him where to obtain the medicine, and also explained how to prepare two particular herbs among them.

"I can go for that," said Ember Vance’s mother, proactively taking the prescription.

"Mhm, there shouldn’t be much else, I need to stay in the hospital with Little Gold. If you’ve got other things to do, go ahead, but can I also have some tasty food?" The little girl’s trip to the capital was for treatment as much as it was for eating and having fun.

"Of course, just wait, I’ll leave you in charge here, thanks is not necessary," Yusuf Zuck nodded repeatedly. Although Sophia was naive and endearing, if she said there was hope, it meant things were almost certain.

Yusuf Zuck strode out and then saw Grey Petty standing guard in the corridor.

Samuel Ross was afraid something else might happen in this period, so there were people secretly following both Ember Vance and Miles O’Brien and Paisley Kirk.

"Grey, tell Samuel Ross to deliver food to the hospital every day, a different dish each day, all to be local snacks from the capital, starting with roasted duck today."

"Got it, I’ll inform Boss Ross," Grey Petty said as he hurriedly went downstairs with his phone.

"Big Brother Zuck." Yusuf Zuck then approached Everest Zuck and said, "Please take Rachel Fournier to the New Century and book a presidential suite for her to stay in. Also arrange for a dedicated car and driver. Also, Sophia will be treating here in the hospital for maybe ten days to half a month, so she won’t be able to leave, hence please take care of her on my behalf."

"Where are you off to?" Everest Zuck frowned.

"I need to make a trip, but I’ll be back soon."

"What kind of person are you? You bring people over then you want to leave?" Everest Zuck complained loudly.

"Sorry, Rachel, one of my friends might have died in Japan, so I... I... must go there to see!" Yusuf Zuck apologized.

"Why so formal with me? You do what you need to do. We’ll spend the New Year in the capital, and you can join us when you’re back."

"Alright, I’ll go make the arrangements," Yusuf Zuck said, grateful as he gave Rachel Fournier a look before turning and leaving.
