Chapter 333: Chapter 333: Undiscovered Secrets
"Bang–" When Yusuf Zuck burst out of the first floor, Fleur Carson immediately dodged to one side. He was on guard outside in case someone tried to escape, but when he saw it was Yusuf Zuck, he too let out a sigh of relief.
"Everyone’s dead, but I think I’ve been poisoned. Carry me to the car and we’ll talk; I’m feeling so numb." Yusuf Zuck suppressed that intense feeling of dizziness and discomfort, asking Fleur Carson to carry him to the car.
Also, his telekinesis kept reminding him that he must not fall, he must not fall; he had to deal with everything first.
"What happened?" Fleur Carson was startled by Yusuf Zuck’s condition. "I don’t know, that little Jap blew up something, there was a flash of light and the smell was pungent, and then I started feeling dizzy. Let me make a call first." Yusuf Zuck’s tongue began to swell, and his speech became slurred. Clenching his teeth, he took out his phone, dialed Lucy Clayton’s number, and ordered, "Set fire, burn the building down for me!"
"Roger that." Lucy Clayton responded and hung up. Shortly after, a van quickly approached from afar, and two guys wearing fur hats each rushed into the restaurant carrying fifty-pound oil drums.
A water sprayer truck, the kind used for watering flowers in parks, also arrived and stopped in front of the restaurant before starting to spray.
"Motherfucker." Yusuf Zuck cursed. Damn Lucy Clayton, using a water sprayer truck to sprinkle gasoline.
Less than two minutes later, the two men in fur hats charged out of the restaurant, got into the van, and drove away immediately; the water sprayer truck also sped off, leaving dust in its wake.
Another taxi arrived, and then a familiar face appeared in Yusuf Zuck’s vision—it was Otis Quinn. He stood in front of the restaurant’s door, first lit a cigarette, and then flung his windproof lighter towards the building.
"Whoosh–" At that moment, because the inside and outside were drenched in gasoline, when it met the naked flame, the three-story restaurant let out a muffled explosion, a blast wave flipping Otis Quinn over before he had even got into the car. He stumbled into the vehicle, and the taxi sped away.
"Take me to the hospital, motherfucker, I’m feeling sleepy. Haven’t felt this sleepy in a long time!" Yusuf Zuck cursed and collapsed in the back seat, completely passing out.
Fleur Carson was terrified; he floored the gas pedal, frantically driving towards the nearest hospital.
The restaurant was on fire, flames shooting up inside and out, accompanied by occasional explosion sounds due to gas cylinders inside. In just a few minutes, the entire building was hissing as it burned; it was 200 pounds of gasoline after all, with more sprayed on the outside. Not just a building, even a pile of iron would have melted into molten steel.
Yusuf Zuck was unaware that the restaurant had become a charred skeleton within ten minutes before the firefighters even arrived. At that moment, he was rushed into the emergency room, where they took blood samples for testing.
The test results came back quickly; he had inhaled a high concentration of Enflurane, an inhaled anesthetic used in surgeries. A patient only needs to breathe in a few times before they become completely numb, lose all sensation, and also lose consciousness.
The doctors deduced that Yusuf Zuck wasn’t in any life-threatening danger, but he might sleep for over twenty-four hours, or longer. A full day and night’s sleep was inevitable, and with such a high concentration of inhalation, he needed to be placed in the intensive care unit as a precaution against organ degeneration.
Hearing the doctor’s explanation, Fleur Carson breathed a sigh of relief. The little Jap had used a high-concentration anesthetic, which was why Yusuf Zuck had passed out.
Since Yusuf Zuck was admitted in the middle of the night, he didn’t call anyone to notify them, and he didn’t want to notify anyone either. In his condition, it was better to keep it from others.
At four in the morning, Yusuf Zuck’s phone rang. It was Lucy Clayton’s number. Fleur Carson didn’t answer; it rang twice more before stopping.
At four-thirty, Everest Zuck’s phone call also came through, but Fleur Carson didn’t pick up. He cut the call and turned off the phone.
However, what Yusuf Zuck didn’t know was that as he lay in the intensive care unit, something strange was happening deep in his mind. A string of candied haw-like Blood Beads kept flickering steadily, like breathing. They were breaking down, rapidly merging their essence with the poison in his body.
At 4:35 a.m., Yusuf Zuck miraculously woke up. The doctor had said he inhaled a large amount of anesthetic and would sleep for at least twenty-four hours, but he woke up in less than one.
"Whew—where am I?" Once his eyes were open, he realized he was on a respirator, with a device pinching his fingertip to measure his heart rate, and there was also an IV in his arm.
"The hospital?" Yusuf propped himself up to sit and also closed his eyes briefly to sense his body.
"Hmm, everything’s fine—no numbness or dizziness. Just don’t know how long I’ve been out." After moving his hands and feet, he gently turned off the heart rate monitor, removed the IV needle, then got out of bed and strolled around the room.
His body was unharmed, and the Blood Beads in his head were safe and sound—everything was okay.
"Fleur Carson, with the surname ’Fleur’, where are my clothes?" Yusuf cracked the door open slightly. He now realized his top was missing, his pants were gone, presumably stripped off and placed somewhere out of sight, as they weren’t in the room either.
"Holy shit!" Fleur thought she had seen a ghost when she looked up to see Yusuf, who was supposed to be in the intensive care unit, and nearly screamed. Her eyes were wide open in disbelief.
"Dammit, what are you staring at? Find my clothes for me, and hurry up," Yusuf said, then closed the door.
Fleur hurried downstairs. During the earlier emergency room visit, they had removed his clothes, which seemed to have been left there, but she hadn’t had the chance to retrieve them yet.
A moment later, she returned with Yusuf’s clothes and slipped into the intensive care unit.
"What was I poisoned with?" Yusuf asked while dressing.
"An inhalant anesthetic used for surgery—the kind for painless anesthesia. The doctor said it would take you over twenty-four hours to wake up, but it’s been less than an hour, and you’re already awake. Are you some kind of god?" Fleur said with a bewildered laugh. What kind of body did Yusuf have? Inhaling so much anesthetic and now he’s bouncing around?
"Bullshit, I almost got killed by those little bastards. I’ve learned my lesson this time." Yusuf felt a chill after the fact. Had he not discovered it early and been able to use the Flying Sword, they might have completely taken advantage of him last night. Unconscious, he would’ve had no clue if they stripped him naked and cast him as the lead in an adult film.
"Hmm, how do you feel?" Fleur inquired.
"Nothing serious, feeling pretty good. When I woke up just now, my little brother was still standing at attention!" Yusuf joked.
"That’s your little brother, not mine!" Fleur cursed back at him.
"Then help me with the discharge procedures. Since I woke up early, there’s no good explanation for it, and I’m afraid they’ll slice me open for study. So, I’m off first, and you follow," Yusuf said and dashed out without waiting for a reply, grabbing his phone on the way.
What discharge procedures could Fleur even process? Although they had deposited a few thousand as a security, forget about it, right? So she also chased after Yusuf, following right behind him.
In the car, Yusuf told Fleur to drive while he closed his eyes to ponder. The doctor had said he’d sleep for at least twenty-four hours, yet he woke up in less than one. What did this imply? It suggested that inside his body lay special powers yet to be discovered.
Yes, being Invisible was a special power, as was the Flying Sword, and Telekinesis even more so. So this quick recovery from poisoning might be another special ability, one that he had never known about or discovered before.
He knew his body harbored many more secrets waiting to be uncovered!
