Chapter 245: Chapter 245: Sending Off the Woman
The social atmosphere in our country today is quite troubling—people seem to have lost their faith, prioritizing money above all else. Money has become almighty and now dictates the lives of everyone.
Generations of young saplings grow up only to be lured astray by society’s various influences, so many underage boys and girls lose their way at the very outset of their lives.
Nehemiah said to Yusuf about finding high school students—Yusuf had heard about this too. In their county towns, situations like these were common; many high school and even junior high school female students would sell their youth and bodies for a smartphone, for a beautiful dress, or even just for phone credit or data charges.
No one forced them; it was all voluntary. And this phenomenon was not limited to Ulanqab—it could be said to be nationwide.
Though Yusuf was not exactly a moral paragon, and even though he had made some money, there were some things that went against basic human decency that he would not do. So, he firmly refused Nehemiah’s suggestion to go out and have fun.
Besides, he was here to invest, a major investor at that. If he went out and messed around with Nehemiah, it would mean he lacked standards and was negligent of his status, which would earn him contempt.
However, he genuinely liked Nehemiah’s resort villa. It was a ten-kilometer distance from the city center, with a good concrete road all the way there, situated near the prairie. Although there were no mountains, there was a naturally formed lake, known locally as a "paozi," home to various wild fish species, as well as wild ducks, pheasants, rabbits, and even vegetable and vine gardens.
Winter, covered in a blanket of snow, might not show it, but come spring or summer, the place would undoubtedly be stunning.
Unfortunately, Nehemiah was not short on money. He was also investing in real estate with others, so he had no intention of selling the villa.
Though Nehemiah wasn’t the nicest of people, he was shrewd—one could tell at a glance he was a slick character well-versed in the ways of the world.
Time flew, and six days passed—from Friday noon until the following Thursday morning—before Marlon and his team of five arrived back in Ulanqab.
During these six days, Yusuf visited Faye’s room every night to learn about the methods of internal energy cultivation in martial arts.
Through these days of interaction, Yusuf and Faye even started joking around occasionally, with Faye even praising Yusuf’s high talent.
During the day, he learned acupuncture with Jerome, as it was a rare opportunity to have free time without the need to go anywhere—so, acupuncture by day and energy practice by night.
Faye and Jerome got along well too, with Yusuf even seeing Jerome and Faye practising martial arts together in the courtyard one morning, both of them chatting and laughing.
When Marlon came back with his team, the five were talents he had recruited, including two legal experts and three investment consultants renowned in the industry, all hired at a high price.
In the capital, Marlon’s team had drafted the relevant contracts. Upon arrival in Ulanqab, after confirmation and minor modifications, they formally signed the agreement. Yusuf transferred 350 million on the spot.
This sum, after covering the needs of the pharmaceutical company, would still leave at least one billion, which was jointly owned by Sonny and Sadie.
After years of hard work, they finally had this astronomical sum in their savings.
That night, another reception was held, but the fact that Yusuf was investing in the pharmaceutical company was known only to the relevant authorities, some of the management, and not to the regular employees of the company.
Yusuf Zuck didn’t plan on making a big fuss; he believed in quietly entering the village without gunfire.
After the contract was signed, Yusuf Zuck became a hands-off shopkeeper, leaving Marlon Shepherd and his team behind, and then returned to Beijing overnight with Faye Webb and Jerome Hart.
As for the pharmaceutical factory’s future operations, Yusuf Zuck needed to send a few people over, one for financial oversight and one to represent him—at least two, but possibly more. He also needed to go back and look for these candidates.
"You two help me think of a solution," he said. "Two people, they must be trustworthy and prudent; recommend someone to me."
"Just two people? Can that work?" Jerome Hart and Faye Webb asked, looking at Yusuf Zuck with concern.
"I talked a lot with Sadie Blevins before I left, so I won’t manage the pharmaceutical factory’s operations and sales. Overall, they will continue producing according to their original plan, so even if I send two people, it will just be for show, which also represents me," he explained.
"Of course, the accountant must have studied finance properly, and as soon as this person takes charge, they’ll be the head of the finance department. This director has a lot of power, overseeing the company’s finances; even Sonny King has to apply to them for every expenditure."
"As for my representative, they’ll be called the Chairman’s Assistant, temporarily helping Sonny King manage the pharmaceutical factory."
"So you’re looking for a Chief Financial Officer, eh? You can find such people in the job market, but finding someone you can trust, who won’t collude with Sonny King to con you—that’s another matter," Jerome Hart shook his head. "As for the Chairman’s Assistant, see which one of these people fits the bill and just send them over; it’s just a placeholder and an informant, after all."
"Sister Faye, what about you? Do you know anyone suitable for this through your connection with Brother Yusuf?" After interacting over the past few days, Yusuf Zuck started calling her Sister Faye, since she was several years older than him, as a sign of respect.
And it was precisely because Yusuf Zuck had been polite and gentlemanly towards her these past few days that she had come to hold him in high regard.
Yusuf Zuck considered her one of his own, and she him; in short, they had no particular relationship, but they had gained mutual trust.
Faye Webb replied, "I’m afraid I don’t have anyone for this area either. The financial role has to be someone you trust; she’s going to be your confidant, guarding the purse strings, and she also has to be a professional, or else you might end up being sold out and helping count the money."
"This is a headache," Yusuf Zuck sighed, and then the car fell silent. Jerome Hart and Faye Webb could see that Yusuf Zuck was scratching his head now; the business was laid out, but there wasn’t a single person he could use.
"How about... I give it a try?" Suddenly, after a good five or six minutes, Faye Webb spoke up, causing Yusuf Zuck and Jerome Hart to be taken aback.
"Although I graduated from the Chinese department at university, I applied to adult open university after graduation, where I mainly studied financial management and computer applications... I haven’t practiced professionally, but I did all the financial management for my master, including handling all the financial accounting for our school!"
"You mean... You mean... that would involve living in Ulanqab for a long time; what about your master’s place then? Weren’t you supposed to take over your master’s position?" Yusuf Zuck frowned. Everest Zuck was grooming Faye Webb as his successor, so surely she couldn’t just leave to handle Yusuf Zuck’s finances?
"I don’t really want to take over his position—it’s dull. Plus... didn’t he previously say that he was giving me to you?" Faye Webb blushed as she said this.
"Cough cough~" Yusuf Zuck and Jerome Hart both coughed, particularly Jerome Hart, who nearly choked. In today’s society, who still gifts people? The very idea seemed incredibly novel to them.
