Chapter 189: The Green Bamboo Leaf
Chapter 189: Chapter 189: The Green Bamboo Leaf
"I suspect there’s a Jeff Frost mercenary working undercover for your dad." Yusuf Zuck, after meeting with Fleur Carson with Mia and Ross’s mother in tow, rapidly crossed the river. Now, the party of four made their way toward the city center along the riverbank. Yusuf Zuck shared his suspicions with Mia as they walked.
"I also suspect someone leaked the young lady’s and my whereabouts," Ross’s mother immediately chimed in with agreement.
"Then we must find my dad quickly; he’s definitely in danger!" Mia, terrified at the thought of a traitor close to her father, almost jumped up.
"Danger is unlikely; the party is probably after money. Now that you’ve been rescued and sixteen Jeff Frost mercenaries are dead, the mole will likely not expose themselves," Yusuf Zuck squinted, continuing, "Here’s what we’ll do, use my phone to call your dad. Tell him you’ve escaped and ask him to cancel the deal with Jeff Frost."
"Okay, and then what?" Mia nodded repeatedly, now entirely dependent on Yusuf Zuck’s instructions, ready to do whatever he asked.
"After that, have your dad arrange for passports for you and Ross’s mother. Getting back home quickly is the top priority!"
"Oh, okay, I’ll call my dad." Mia reached out for the phone.
Yusuf Zuck took out his cell phone and, after a moment of consideration, decided to dial Marco Tuff’s number himself.
The phone rang four or five times before it was picked up, met with what seemed to be an impatient response from Marco Tuff, "Yusuf Zuck, what’s the matter?"
"Is anyone with Uncle Tuff right now?" Yusuf Zuck asked in return.
"Just tell me what it is you want to say," Marco Tuff did not answer his question.
Yusuf Zuck thought for a bit, "If there’s someone there with you, I’d hope Uncle Tuff could ask them to leave because what I’m about to discuss involves Mia, and furthermore, I suspect that there’s a rat in Uncle Tuff’s camp."
"Everyone get out," Marco Tuff ordered the people around him away on his end of the call.
A few seconds passed, and Marco Tuff spoke indifferently, "You can speak now. What about Mia?"
"Hey,Tuff, what’s with the attitude? How can you speak to Yusuf Zuck like that?" Mia snatched the phone and yelled loudly.
"What?" Hearing Mia’s words, Marco Tuff and Old Man Tang both exclaimed in surprise on the other end.
"What do you mean ’what’? I’ve been kidnapped for four or five days; why didn’t you come to save me? If it weren’t for Yusuf Zuck, I’d be dead by now, I won’t talk to you anymore!" As Mia spoke, tears flowed down her cheeks. She scolded Marco Tuff, but upon hearing his voice, she couldn’t stop the tears!
"Are you saying Yusuf Zuck... he..." Marco Tuff was incredulous.
"What ’he’? He just rescued Mia and Ross’s mother from those bad guys. Also, Yusuf Zuck says there’s an insider close to you, so he told me not to go to you. I’m listening to him, not you. You need to help Mia and Ross’s mother get to the embassy to get our passports reissued as soon as possible, I’m going back to our country with Yusuf Zuck."
"Where are you? Daddy will come to pick you up!" Marco Tuff said eagerly.
"Pick up nothing, you first pull out the mole beside you before saying anything. I’m safe with Yusuf Zuck here."
"But... but..." Marco Tuff wanted to say something else but couldn’t find the words to argue with Mia. Yusuf Zuck had actually rescued Mia? How did he manage that?
"No ’buts’. Finish the passport and call me. You take care of your own safety and don’t let Grandpa Tang leave your side, I don’t trust anyone else," Mia said before hanging up the phone.
Yusuf Zuck grabbed the phone back while also saying to Fleur Carson, "Find a place to settle us down!"
"Heh, I booked a presidential suite earlier. Bringing back a couple of ladies now doesn’t seem too bad. Let’s go, off to the hotel for a hot bath!" Fleur Carson chuckled, hailing a taxi.
...
Meanwhile, in Shangri-La, Marco Tuff jumped up excitedly after hanging up the phone, and Old Master Tang nodded repeatedly, saying, "Impressive, impressive!"
"Indeed impressive. How did Yusuf Zuck manage that?" Marco Tuff took a deep breath and said.
"Who should I ask if you’re asking me?" Old Master Tang glared at Marco Tuff.
"Right, but we still need to bring Mia back," Marco Tuff said, immediately picking up his cell phone to dial a number.
After ringing once, the call was answered, a woman’s voice said, "Brother-in-law, what’s up?"
"Mia has been rescued. A friend of hers who just arrived in Jakarta saved her. I’ve just spoken to her on the phone, but it’s not safe around me. Get your people ready to take Mia away, I will have Mia call you soon!"
"Okay." The call was hung up directly.
After hanging up, Marco Tuff dialed Yusuf Zuck’s number again, and at this time, Yusuf and his party were still in a taxi.
"What’s the matter, Uncle Marco?" Yusuf Zuck asked, perplexed.
"It’s like this; Mia’s maternal aunt is very worried about Mia’s safety. Let Mia give her aunt a call. Her aunt is also in Jakarta," Marco Tuff said tactfully.
"Oh, okay." Yusuf Zuck handed the phone to Mia, who was beside him.
Mia happily dialed the number; she seemed to have a very good relationship with her aunt.
As soon as the call connected, her aunt asked Mia where she was.
"I don’t know where I am, ah, but we’ll head to the Sheraton Hotel soon!" Mia said without any guard, revealing her next stop directly.
Yusuf Zuck and Fleur Carson cursed under their breath. This exposed them, but fortunately, the person on the line was her aunt.
"Okay, I’ll come find you later." Her aunt did not say much on the call and hung up shortly after.
At that moment, Ross’s mother looked at Yusuf Zuck and said, "Mr. Zuck, don’t worry. I have been arranged by Miss Daisy Wilkinson to stay by the young miss’s side. Miss Wilkinson is the young miss’s aunt."
"Oh." Yusuf Zuck shrugged. Mia’s aunt seemed to be a very capable person.
Before Yusuf Zuck and his three companions arrived at the Sheraton, five black Mercedes cars had already pulled up outside the hotel. Fifteen or sixteen Asian men and women stepped out of the cars. Regardless of gender, each was dressed in a suit and tie, all equipped with walkie-talkies.
Leading them was a woman in her thirties, graceful and slender, dressed in a traditional Chinese red cheongsam, with her hair in an updo, red lips, big eyes, and a tall figure.
She exuded an aura of aloof elegance, and as she walked forward, people ahead of her made way and opened doors for her while those behind her moved with well-trained precision on either side of her.
Her name was Daisy Wilkinson and, coincidentally sharing the same name as the character from the novel "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber," she was Mia’s maternal aunt and also the CEO of a publicly listed company. Of course, few knew that she was also engaged in some shady business dealings.
Among the high society in Hong Kong, she had a nickname: Green Bamboo Leaf, which is a kind of snake, and she—she was a snake, a venomous one at that. Few dared to provoke the Green Bamboo Leaf viper.
Of course, she was unmarried, had no male friends, and no scandals to her name. But those who knew her background were aware that she followed her brother-in-law, that everything she had came from him, and that all she did was for him. Though they were not formally wed, she was indeed her brother-in-law’s woman!
