Chapter 1609: Chapter 1629: Offering Suggestions and Ideas
Spencer Dyer’s rescue of the small village and persuading the bandits to reform wasn’t widely circulated; very few people knew about it.
However, although few people knew, it was still known by that small group, such as all the Clan Leaders of the Thirty-Six Clans who gathered at Damon Richmond’s home to personally watch the letter brought by Yusuf Zuck. They compared it to his previous handwriting for medicinal herbs and confirmed it was from the same hand.
Of course, Damon Richmond had identified it long ago.
"This gentleman is doing good deeds, accumulating virtue. He truly is a good man!" The Clan Leaders praised him one after another, wondering why a big figure like Yusuf, much more esteemed than themselves, would concern himself with such trivial matters?
Yet he did, and during the seven days he stayed in that small village, those sent by Damon Richmond returned and reported that the gentleman was teaching the village children to read. The villagers also said that these days, the gentleman was either helping to repair houses or walls and even chopped wood for others!
What kind of gentleman is he? Clearly a servant!
Wrong, not a servant, but a benevolent man!
So how could the Thirty-Six Clan Leaders not be amazed!
"The gentleman is cultivating virtue and accumulating goodness. We must not disturb such a way of voluntary purification, so we should not meet him, should not disturb him. Moreover, we should pass a secret order down to the Clan, to pay more attention to these letters from now on and also strictly discipline our own family members to make sure they do not inadvertently offend the gentleman!"
"Yes, yes, the gentleman is traveling, not knowing whose territory he might travel to. The gentleman is probably doing good, handling some trifles. If any conflicts arise with our descendants, it would be disastrous. Thus, we must issue the highest command!"
"I’m heading back now!"
"I am returning too!"
"Go, go, go!"
The Thirty-Six Clan Leaders gathered quickly and dispersed even quicker, each returning to their clan to issue orders!
About ten more days later, Yusuf Zuck reached the end of the official road, where, surprisingly, stood an insurmountable high mountain. However, the mountain was covered with slaves shackled by chains on their feet. At the foot of the mountain was a huge barrack with banners displaying the Jacobs name!
This was the slave camp of the Jacobs Family.
Yusuf stood at the foot of the mountain, watching the slaves swarm like ants, hauling stones or digging caves, while iron whips occasionally lashed out behind them, each strike leaving a bloody trace, lacerating their skin!
As Yusuf gazed intently up the mountain, the Rat King knew trouble was brewing again due to his master’s benevolence, but how could he save them?
Such slave camps were everywhere in the Immortal Realm. Every clan had ten or eight of these camps, and the number of slaves was incredibly large!
"Let’s go, let’s go up the mountain and have a look," Yusuf said, striding towards the barracks gate. As he approached, the gate was noticed by the Immortal Soldiers, who quickly rushed out six men.
"Who goes there, stop!" an Immortal Soldier shouted.
"What are you yelling for? Call Cecilia Jacobs to come here!" the Rat King stepped forward and said forcefully.
The six Immortal Soldiers were stunned. Yusuf, meanwhile, gave the Rat King a glare, then smiled at the six Immortal Soldiers and said, "Could you kindly ask your steward to come over? I am Spencer, and I have some ties with your Jacobs Family Clan Leader."
"Please wait, we will call them right away!" The six soldiers, unsure of the truth, were intimidated by the Rat King’s immense aura and dared not look directly at him, so one of them immediately went back to report.
However, not even a minute passed before chaos ensued in the barracks, and a disheveled man, hastily donning his clothes, led a group rushing toward the gate!
He was a disciple of the Jacobs Family and had received the highest order from the clan, so how could he not know of Spencer’s great name?
"This humble one, Kingston Jacobs, greets Sir Spencer!" Kingston Jacobs, a young man in his twenties, appeared thin, with lip prints on his neck, obviously loafing around the barracks in broad daylight.
Yusuf gave him a glance before striding into the barracks!
Others didn’t know the situation, nor who this Sir Spencer was, but were amazed that this man could make Kingston Jacobs kneel and disdain even speaking more beyond a word!
Kingston Jacobs did not dare to voice any objections and hurriedly followed in Yusuf’s footsteps!
Yusuf didn’t go up the mountain; instead, he stopped outside a large tent and suddenly asked, "How many years is the service term for a slave?"
"Reporting to the sir, the Immortal Realm’s unified regulation requires all slaves to serve for a hundred years!"
"However, female slaves serve for seventy years."
"And after seventy years?" Yusuf continued to ask.
"After seventy years, or a hundred years later, we grant them a fixed amount of Spirit Stones, allow them to register as immortals, let them find their own way, or the outstanding ones can join the barracks or be positioned in the city and so on."
"Fair enough!" Yusuf nodded, as this approach seemed reasonable that without management, the Immortal Realm would surely fall into chaos.
Those who make ascension from the Lower Realm are significant figures, so upon ascending, they think they become immortals and defy all regulations, submitting to no one. Therefore, if not tempered through service, the Immortal Realm would be even more chaotic.
If no one respects anyone, wouldn’t it result in daily conflicts?
So Yusuf understood very well that he couldn’t casually meddle in slave camp matters, nor could he randomly act on benevolence, as it would cause upheaval in the Immortal Realm and enormous benefits loss to the Thirty-Six Clans!
However, the existence of slave camps also created two distinct classes. People ascending from the Lower Realm surely resented the Thirty-Six Clans, and even after completing the service, most would likely choose to oppose the Thirty-Six Clans!
Therefore, this led to a vicious cycle — without enslaving them, there would be chaos, and enslaving them also led to chaos!
After contemplating for a moment in front of the tent, Yusuf lifted the flap to enter and while walking, he said, "Rat King, bring the paper and pen!"
He was about to write another letter!
But this time, he wrote much, and it wasn’t a command-style letter, but more like a suggestion!
He suggested granting the slaves ascending from the Lower Realm the right to life!
Indeed, the first suggestion was not to kill recklessly; every person should have the right to secure their life, unless they made grave mistakes, morally wronged others, or caused riots in numbers, then life could be appropriately deprived, but otherwise, they shouldn’t be regarded as mere fish to be slaughtered or beaten at will!
The second suggestion was about welfare.
He suggested allowing all slaves to rest at least three days a month, meaning, during these three-day periods, they could do whatever they wanted, even go into the city to enjoy life’s pleasures!
He believed that every slave had their own stash, and if granted a holiday to enjoy the city, it would further promote economic prosperity and growth in the city.
Of course, as for how the leave would be granted or arranged, he didn’t write explicitly, knowing that the Thirty-Six Clan Leaders were wise.
The third suggestion was to establish a comprehensive accommodation system and political work, such as assigning some mentors in the camps to guide them with morals and offer them beautiful futures, such as building academies, arranging matchmaking, or providing investment for outstanding performers, etc., etc.!
Yusuf wrote a long letter, signing it as Spencer, requesting the Thirty-Six Clan Leaders to act at their discretion!
He wasn’t just advocating for slave welfare but was offering suggestions for the prosperity of the Thirty-Six Clans and the whole Immortal Realm!
Of course, he did so without any selfish motives, just wishing for the slaves to have a better life.
