Chapter 1608: Chapter 1628: No Desire, No Pursuit!
After going through certain events, many people experience drastic changes in their personality. For instance, someone might go overnight from a lively and outgoing person to one who is silent and melancholic after losing a loved one.
Their temperaments shift with the environment they grow and live in, and now Yusuf Zuck has changed too. He seems to have become calm and collected, having no desires, becoming like a monk who surprisingly stops the killing!
Indeed, he, nicknamed Yusuf the Old Demon, actually persuades others to lay down their butcher knives and become compliant citizens!
This is a real change in temperament. In the past, faced with such situations, he would have probably long turned these bandits into minced meat, as he was born to hate evil, to prove his path through combat!
The village at night was eerie, with all the horse bandits not daring to move because the white-robe leader was truly their boss, even a subordinate to the Immortal King, Luo Xian. Seeing their boss held like a chick, how could they cry out to fight or kill?
Furthermore, everyone saw that little Immortal King walk among the villagers, helping up an old woman, picking up a little girl, and even tearing off his own sleeve to wrap a man’s bleeding wrist!
Everyone quietly watched; they all felt this scene was indescribably bizarre.
Even the Rat King felt puzzled, wondering what had happened to his master.
"Benefactor..." At some point, an old woman from the village knelt down, calling Yusuf their benefactor. All the villagers followed suit, bowing before him repeatedly.
What else could this man be but a benefactor? He stopped the horse bandits and kindly helped them up and tended to their wounds. He was not only a benefactor but also a good man!
Yusuf smiled and waved his hand, then took big strides to the Rat King, and earnestly said to the man in white robes, "The villagers are just ordinary Immortal Citizens. How can you bear to plunder them? So now I give you two choices: one, end your lives entirely, or two, store your weapons, let your horses graze, and take my letter to the Thirty-Six Cities of the Thirty-Six Clans."
The white-robed leader’s face turned green. What kind of person was this, thinking of arranging things for them, wanting to make them compliant citizens, and live peacefully!
The white-robed leader was speechless, then pondered for a while before saying, "Does your letter really work? We don’t want this either. We all ascended from the Lower Realm, escaped our past, and are now on the wanted list. We had no choice but to become bandits because we need to eat, cultivate, and survive!"
"It shouldn’t be a problem. You can send someone with my letter to try it." Yusuf turned around and asked the villagers, "Who has pen and paper I can borrow?"
"I do, I do!" a villager quickly brought pen and paper, and after thinking a bit, Yusuf wrote eleven words on the paper: They have mended their ways, hope for proper arrangements, signed, Attendant Student Spencer!
"As their leader, you should strive for their well-being. So I will wait for you here, take my letter to the city, seek help, and then bring your brothers into the city for placement; this would be more secure!"
"Yes, yes, I’ll go right away!" The white-robed leader didn’t know the truth but kept nodding earnestly.
The Rat King let him down, and he flew into the air with the letter.
Yusuf didn’t leave but instructed the villagers to go home and rest. The other horse bandits gathered at the village entrance, their horses tied in a row, weapons laid on the ground. They didn’t know what fate awaited them, just waited for their leader to return!
Their leader didn’t return by daylight, while Yusuf rolled up his trousers and helped a household repair their broken courtyard wall.
After fixing the wall, he gathered the village children and taught them to read and write!
For seven days, Yusuf did farm work and taught, leaving the Rat King at a loss with his master’s behavior.
On the eighth day, the white-robed leader returned, and he brought back a dozen people, each dressed in brocade robes, evidently of high status.
The white-robed leader seemed thrilled, kneeling before Yusuf and knocking his head several times, followed by the dozen brocade-clad people. They didn’t ask anything, simply followed their family head’s directive to kneel before this person.
Later, the white-robed leader claimed he reached the Richmond Family’s major city and shortly after handing over the letter, received personal reception by Clan Leader Damon Richmond. After a few inquiries, he was told they could bring the bandits into the city, provided they maintained security. Moreover, they were offered options to join the military or receive free housing and small business funds.
Of course, the funds were not gifted, but carried low interest and no rush for repayment; overall benefits and welfare were good. The white-robed leader, being at the Luo Xian Realm, even joined the Richmond Family’s private army as an instructor...
After recounting the story, the white-robed leader led the bandits away, repeatedly expressing gratitude. In truth, unless a bandit is thoroughly incorrigible, who doesn’t wish for a peaceful life?
Afterward, Yusuf continued his journey with the Rat King. Before departing, a bold village child asked his name, to which he replied, "I am Spencer!"
The villagers remembered this Spencer, remembering the Great Benefactor Spencer. Three days after Yusuf left the village, they set up a tablet in the ancestral hall for the Great Benefactor Spencer, also called the Spencer Memorial Hall!
"Master, your arm... your arm is glowing with golden light!" the Rat King exclaimed in shock while walking along the highway, for as Yusuf walked, golden light sparkled around his right hand and wrist, shimmering brightly, transforming his hand and wrist into a golden state!
Through these days, he stayed beside Yusuf, clearly knowing Yusuf hadn’t retreated for meditation or training, so how could he advance to a Golden Body? How was this possible?
Yusuf smiled, stroking his wrist gently and said indifferently, "I do good deeds not to obtain a Golden Body, not expecting anything in return, just... trying to live a different way and method."
"This is my redemption!" Yusuf sighed, "In the past life, I killed countless people indiscriminately, good and bad, men and women, young and old, I killed too many!"
"During retreat days ago, I even dreamt, seeing piles of bones, many innocent helpless eyes, I knew those were my karmic sins!"
"Living again, if I continue the old path of endless killings, it would lead nowhere!"
"I couldn’t let go before because I couldn’t see through myself, failing to see that killing isn’t the only path to truth!"
"So I walk, wanting to see this world’s landscape differently, wanting my body, my heart to feel the truest self and life."
"So now, I am without desires."
