Chapter 150: Chapter 150: The Core Team
Fleur Carson took Yusuf Zuck back to the hospital and told him not to mention anything about last night’s incident to anyone other than the two of them.
With such matters, the fewer people who knew, the safer it was.
Yusuf Zuck was well aware of this; he was no fool. How could he possibly discuss such things with others?
The next morning, Samuel Ross made a phone call. He mentioned, intentionally or otherwise, that a residential fire had occurred near the Beijing Film Academy, claiming the lives of five people.
Yusuf Zuck knew that Samuel Ross and Zhu were both highly vigilant; they were no ordinary people.
Of course, he said nothing in return, merely telling Samuel Ross that he had returned and that they should gather that evening, alongside getting some work done, work that had been waiting for several days now.
Samuel Ross simply responded with an "Oh," understanding that the potential danger to Sara Zuck had been eliminated.
Meanwhile, that morning, Fleur Carson drove Yusuf Zuck’s white Range Rover to the hospital to pick up Paisley Kirk, the nurse who had kept watch all night.
Because Yusuf Zuck and Fleur Carson had discussed it the night before, they decided to let Paisley Kirk move into Fleur Carson’s house.
Indeed, Fleur Carson had a house in the capital city, and since he now lived with Samuel Ross and the others, his house was vacant, making it the perfect place for Nurse Kirk to stay. He came personally to help her move.
Yusuf Zuck had already informed Paisley Kirk ahead of time, so she was moved, excited, and nervous.
By afternoon, Fleur Carson arrived at the hospital alone.
"Paisley needs to tidy up the place a bit; it’s somewhat messy at my house. I let her rest this afternoon, so she could take over your shift this evening," Fleur Carson said, choosing not to enter the ward but instead meeting Yusuf Zuck in the hospital parking lot.
"Hmm, hold on a second, I need to take a call," Yusuf Zuck said as his phone began to ring. The caller ID showed Ember Vance, which was coincidental as he also needed to speak with her.
"Yusuf, how is your uncle’s illness?" Ember asked about the condition as soon as the call connected.
"He’s been transferred. I am back in the capital. His condition is stable," Yusuf said with a smile.
"Ah? You’re back? Which hospital? Tell me quickly, I’ll come to visit."
"No need to come over. My dad’s illness isn’t something pleasant, and your visit might cause some awkwardness." Ember Vance was aware of the nature of Yusuf Zuck’s father’s injury.
"Oh, then I won’t come. But I’ll buy some nutritional supplements later. Could you pass them along for me?" Ember Vance asked softly.
"Then you should buy more," Yusuf said with a laugh.
"Mhm, mhm, I’ll buy more," Ember agreed, nodding eagerly.
"How did you handle Bud Trujillo’s case?" Yusuf Zuck suddenly brought up Bud Trujillo; he hadn’t had a chance to ask before.
"I was just about to talk to you about that," Ember whispered. "Your colleagues all did as you instructed: fifty thousand for the severely injured, ten thousand for the minor injuries. Bud Trujillo paid in cash. Also, I was going to ask for some money for you, but then I thought, since you weren’t here, it would give his family leverage against us, so I didn’t. But you don’t lack money, right?"
"Mhm, what you did was right. Is Bud Trujillo out now?" Yusuf asked.
"No, he should be detained for ten days at least," Ember said with a chuckle.
"He must hate you to the bone by now. Be careful from now on!" Yusuf cautioned.
"Hmph, I wish he would come bother me," Ember huffed.
"Right, Ember, are you free tonight?" Yusuf thought for a moment and then asked.
"Yes, I’m free after work, why... do you need something?" Ember’s voice was soft, carrying a hint of intimacy.
"Mmm, there’s a little favor I need to ask of you," Yusuf Zuck said. "You know I have a sister at the Film Academy, right?"
"Mmm-hmm, I know, I know," Ember Vance nodded.
"So when you get off work today, could you go to the Film Academy to find my sister and then take her out to dinner? After dinner, can you take her back to your place to stay for the night? But don’t tell her I’ve come back, and don’t mention my dad’s illness. Just act like you don’t know anything."
"Err... okay, okay, okay!" Ember Vance didn’t know what Yusuf Zuck meant by that, but this was good news! Yusuf Zuck was giving her a chance to make contact with his sister; of course, she was one hundred percent willing.
"Mhm, I’ll send my sister’s number to your phone in a bit, and I’ll give her a heads up too."
"Alright, then... uh... okay, okay, no problem at all!" In the end, Ember Vance didn’t manage to ask ’why’.
"Thank you for this. Lately, I’ve managed to offend not just Bud Trujillo but also some guy called Brother Dao; swindled him out of a million, so I’m worried about her safety. It’ll be fine if she just stays at your place for one night!"
"Brother Dao? Which Brother Dao? I’ll handle him!" Ember Vance got anxious all of a sudden—another one popped up? Well, she would continue to handle it!
"No, no, no, don’t just handle things recklessly. When it’s time for you to handle something, then you can handle it," Yusuf Zuck said, trying not to laugh.
"Oh, then I’ll follow your lead, but can I at least collect some dirt on him?" Ember Vance said with a playful smile.
"Sure, just be careful. I feel like I’ve got somebody who gets things done at my office now, haha," Yusuf Zuck laughed heartily.
"Hehe," Ember Vance also started to chuckle.
"Alright, let’s hang up. I’m going to send you my sister’s number; take note of it and don’t forget, okay?" Yusuf Zuck finished speaking and hung up the phone.
After hanging up, he sent Sara Zuck’s mobile number and dormitory address to Ember Vance’s phone and also called Sara Zuck.
He didn’t tell Sara Zuck that he had returned to the capital, nor did he tell her about their old man’s hospitalization in the capital. This was also a decision made after consulting with the old man, as both him and the old man didn’t want her to know about the old man’s illness. They planned to inform her once the old man’s condition improved a little and after he was discharged from the hospital.
Yusuf Zuck told Sara Zuck that there would be a policewoman named Ember Vance coming to find her in the evening to take her out to dinner and that she couldn’t go back to her dorm to stay overnight. Instead, she had to stay at Ember Vance’s house.
Confused, Sara Zuck asked why. Yusuf Zuck lied and said that because of the incident with Otis Quinn at the karaoke bar last time, Otis Quinn might come looking for trouble in the next couple of days. That’s why he wanted her to stay with Ember Vance, who was a good friend he had made in the capital and someone he had helped a great deal.
Sara Zuck agreed, albeit skeptically.
After hanging up with Sara Zuck, Yusuf Zuck gestured for Fleur Carson to drive him to the bank as he had nearly forgotten about the ten million that Old Xu was waiting for.
"Let Samuel Ross, Zhu Zi, Xiao Wei, and Wen Shuai know to meet up at Quanjude tonight. You make the reservation, I want to thank the brothers for their hard work these past few days."
"Sure, the few of us can definitely be considered your core team now. But didn’t you say something about making a fortune tonight? What kind of fortune?" Fleur Carson asked, puzzled.
Yusuf Zuck replied with a mysterious smile, "You’ll find out later."
"Pssh." Fleur Carson flipped him the bird with total disdain.
"You just mentioned ’core team.’ The thing is, I’ve got some money in hand now, but I have no idea what to do with it. Can you give me some advice on what kind of industry to invest in with fifty or sixty million?" Yusuf Zuck was quite troubled now. His education level wasn’t high, and apart from a foundation in martial arts, his only advantages were his telekinesis, his ability to become invisible, and his strength.
But these special abilities didn’t relate to running an industry and making big money. Having these abilities didn’t mean he also had a business brain; he genuinely wasn’t cut out for business.
"You want to go into industry with fifty or sixty million? What kind of bull are you talking? If you go and invest that much in some remote small county, even the local magistrate wouldn’t give you the time of day. Fifty or sixty million is too little. You can set up a small cardboard box factory, or a small cement plant, maybe, but forget about making a big fortune. Save up a bit more until you have five or six hundred million, then consider going into industry!"
"But do you even have fifty or sixty million right now? Motherfucker, I want to change my car, give me money, I want to change my car!" Fleur Carson wanted to act like a nouveau riche and divide the wealth.
