Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Specialization in Skills

After smoking a cigarette downstairs, Yusuf Zuck headed straight to Jade Cooke’s hospital room when he went back upstairs. Jade Cooke wanted to see him, which undoubtedly meant he wanted to thank Yusuf, but since he had been asked to come, Yusuf felt it would be impolite not to.

After knocking, the response of "Come in" came from a girl’s voice. Yusuf thought it was another nurse, so he smiled and pushed the door open.

However, upon entering the room, he too was taken aback because the person who met his eyes was a blooming young girl, probably about sixteen or seventeen. She was tall and slim, with shoulder-length hair, wearing jeans and sneakers, her body slender and curvy, very elegant in demeanor.

Aside from the girl, Erasmus Cooke and his wife were not in the room.

Meanwhile, Jade Cooke in the hospital bed was looking curiously at Yusuf.

"Excuse me... ah... Are you Yusuf Zuck?" The girl began to ask with a hint of uncertainty about who Yusuf was looking for, but then she noticed the bandage in his hand and immediately remembered—this man was her brother’s lifesaver!

"Yusuf Zuck?" Jade Cooke on the bed was also startled for a moment but then struggled to raise his hand!

"I am Yusuf Zuck. Don’t move, you’re injured," Yusuf hurried forward to the side of the bed.

Jade Cooke didn’t seem much older, around twenty, with bandages on his head and face where the wounds were.

"Thank you." Jade Cooke didn’t retract his hand; instead, he extended it further forward and earnestly said a word of thanks.

Yusuf knew he wanted to shake hands, so he gripped his hand in return.

"Don’t speed next time. You were driving too fast that night," Yusuf said with a smile.

"Mhm," Jade Cooke nodded lightly.

"Please, take a seat, Yusuf. Would you like some water?" The young girl pushed a chair towards Yusuf and also handed him a bottle of water.

"She’s my sister, Anna Cooke," Jade Cooke introduced.

"Hello, Yusuf," Anna Cooke reached out her hand in a friendly manner.

"Hello, hello," Yusuf replied with unusual formality as they shook hands.

"How are you feeling now?" Yusuf inquired politely after sitting down.

"The doctor said it’ll be at least half a year before I can hop around, I have to stay in bed for half a year..." Jade Cooke said with a wry smile.

"Then use this time to rest and recover. By the way, are you studying or working now?"

"College, I haven’t graduated yet. And you, Yusuf, what do you do?"

"I’m just muddling through, I’ve opened an antique shop in Ruiz Family Park."

"Antiques?" Upon hearing Yusuf’s words, both Jade Cooke and Anna Cooke looked visibly startled.

"Really? That’s so surprising," Anna Cooke exclaimed in amazement before realizing her remark might be inappropriate, so she quickly clarified, "That’s so coincidental, my major is in archaeology."

"Er... really?" Yusuf was also a bit taken aback. He thought that as a daughter of the prestigious Shepherd Family, she would choose a better major. Why would she go for something as niche as archaeology?

"Delaney, didn’t you complain that what you learn at school is all theory? Yusuf here deals with the real thing. You should ask him for advice in the future!" Jade Cooke said with a smile.

"Yes, Yusuf, can I work at your shop during the winter break?" Delaney Valencia asked excitedly.

"Sure, no problem," Yusuf immediately nodded in agreement!

"So, can I also work there every weekend?" Anna Cooke added.

Yusuf Zuck continued to nod, "Meals, accommodations, and pick-up, all included—a one-stop service!"

"Yay~" Anna Cooke almost jumped up in excitement, while Jade Cooke smiled approvingly.

"Write down my number. My shop is currently being renovated and might take a few days before it opens. Whenever you’re free to come by, just give me a call. I’m going back to my dad now!" Yusuf Zuck stood up and said.

"Hmm, just say it once, I’ll remember it," Anna Cooke responded, nodding continuously.

Yusuf Zuck immediately recited his phone number and then said goodbye to the siblings.

Anna Cooke personally saw Yusuf Zuck out of the ward and jokingly told him to take care, saying things like they looked forward to his patronage in the future.

Yusuf Zuck couldn’t help but feel rueful. This Anna Cooke should be a freshman in college, still so young.

Just as Yusuf Zuck had left Anna Cooke, Fleur Carson had called; he had arrived at the hospital’s parking lot.

Yusuf Zuck told him to wait and then went back to his father’s ward for a glance. Erasmus Cooke was chatting with the young nurse Paisley Kirk, talking about Yusuf Zuck, saying that he was as stubborn as a mule and uncontrollable as a child.

After making a quick round in the room, Yusuf Zuck went straight downstairs.

Fleur Carson was driving a taxi, which is the best cover because taxis are common on the streets and usually don’t draw particular attention from certain people.

Once on the taxi, Fleur Carson put the car in gear and drove off, saying while driving, "There’s a taxi driver’s uniform on the back seat. Put it on, you’ll be driving in a bit."

"Okay," Yusuf Zuck nodded. Fleur Carson was a professional, so it was best to listen to him.

"The other two arrived this afternoon. One of them, wearing a cap, scoped out the school and has just returned not long ago. They’re having dinner at this moment and probably discussing the plan to kidnap our sister."

"So my suggestion is to act tonight and take care of them for good, to avoid future trouble!"

"Hmm, just tell me where they are, you don’t need to come. Are you sure they’re the ones going after my sister? Don’t get it wrong," Yusuf Zuck said while changing his clothes.

"It’s definitely them. You can tell those guys are no good. But you don’t need me?" Fleur Carson squinted, then immediately shook his head, "No, no, I have to be with you!"

"Worried about my safety?" Yusuf Zuck asked with a smile.

"Not exactly," Fleur Carson shook his head again, "Actually, murder is the simplest sport in the world. Even a three-year-old could kill an adult with the right method. However, the most crucial part is how you handle the scene afterwards, how you cut the clues that connect back to you."

"You can kill these scumbags in minutes, but if their phones or belongings contain information about you, police can extract this information and trace it back to you!"

"So the goal isn’t just to get rid of them. The goal is to extricate ourselves entirely, making it look like we had nothing to do with it!"

"Oh..." Yusuf Zuck drew out the sound. Fleur Carson was right; handling the aftermath was key. His own idea was to leave immediately after dealing with the scumbags, but he had not thought about disposing of their personal items, which would surely contain information about him or his sister, all potential leads for the police to follow.

"Also," Fleur Carson spoke up again, "the whole fighting and killing thing is outdated. If you want to vent, we can go to a boxing gym later. I’ll spar with you. But as for those scumbags, it’s better if you don’t get your hands dirty. After all, you’ll need to live in the capital, take care of your sister and father, and support a bunch of people. In the future, leave these matters to me."

"So, you’re going to do it yourself?" Yusuf Zuck frowned.

"I won’t be doing it by hand either, I’ll use a gun," Fleur Carson laughed, then continued, "Actually, there are safer ways to deal with them. If there was more time, I could arrange some accidents, like a gas leak, carbon monoxide poisoning, or accidental poisoning with potassium chloride, or even stage a suicidal charcoal-burning—those are quite popular!"

"Alright, let’s do it your way," Yusuf Zuck nodded in agreement.
