Chapter 1442: Chapter 1441: The Eight Great Ancestors Appear
With Landyn Torres, the fierce warrior, standing guard, even the ancient gods couldn’t break through his defenses. Thus, everyone from The Eight Great Families remained safe and sound, while the numbers of the ancient gods dwindled. This was thanks to the seamless collaboration between Landyn Torres and Denton Schwartz along with the other Eight Great Clan Leaders. Landyn focused on destroying the enemies’ physical bodies, while the Eight Great Clan Leaders eradicated their divine souls.
The battle lasted only a dozen breaths or so. After twenty or more opponents fell, the remaining ancient gods suddenly fled.
This time, Landyn Torres didn’t stop them. He even removed the restrictions on the Formation, allowing these enemies to escape.
As for why he did so, Yusuf Zuck could tell: Landyn Torres was massively drained. Though he appeared invincible earlier, he had actually been burning his own life force to achieve victory quickly. If the enemy showed any intention of retreat, he would let them escape.
Moreover, he likely reserved part of his strength because he still didn’t know Yusuf Zuck’s true intentions. Thus, he had to keep enough power in case Yusuf Zuck made a move.
The unpredictable Dream could turn violent at any moment, and if he unleashed slaughter, aside from Landyn Torres who might hold his ground briefly, the others would be wiped out instantly by Yusuf Zuck.
Landyn Torres had to be prepared for the worst.
Yusuf Zuck didn’t chase after the ancient gods either. Killing them served no purpose; they couldn’t be truly killed, at least not before their physical forms arrived. Even if their divine souls were destroyed, it would merely harm their destiny to some extent. Meanwhile, their original forms continued to thrive in unknown realms.
Besides, the true enemies of the ancient gods were The Eight Great Families. Why should Yusuf Zuck aid them in fighting the ancient gods?
The ancient gods might harbor silent hatred for him, but Yusuf Zuck didn’t care. He was alone; wherever he went was his home. If the ancient gods truly returned in the future, he could simply hide.
The world was vast, and surely he would find a place to rest his feet.
"Hah~" Watching the ancient gods depart, Landyn Torres let out a long sigh of relief. The other guests on the plaza erupted in cheers. The Eight Great Families’ reign had deeply permeated the lives of the Heavenly Realm’s divine citizens for countless ages and generations. At least for now, the divine citizens didn’t want change—didn’t want strangers ruling over them. Thus, the victory of The Eight Great Families was a cause for celebration.
Yet, the victory also came at a heavy cost, for the deceased were those from The Eight Great Families who had been possessed by the ancient gods. This battle left The Eight Great Families gravely wounded.
But for now, the crisis had passed.
"What do you want?" With the ancient gods gone, Landyn Torres immediately addressed Yusuf Zuck, returning to their earlier topic. Yusuf Zuck had been demanding a bride price. To send him off swiftly, they would offer anything—a bride price, a thousand or eight hundred women—it didn’t matter; they wouldn’t hesitate.
Yusuf Zuck stared intensely at Landyn Torres, his fingers twitching slightly. At that moment, he genuinely contemplated killing him then and there.
However, Yusuf Zuck had once promised Landyn Torres he would spare his life just once. As ruthless, merciless, and cold as Yusuf Zuck might be, he was a man who valued his promises above all.
Landyn Torres might grow stronger in the future, but Yusuf Zuck wouldn’t lag behind. He would grow even more powerful. Now, he was still in his nascent stage, having activated only seventy-three Blood Beads. His room for growth far exceeded that of Landyn Torres.
So, upon reflection, Landyn Torres might not necessarily become a threat to him in the future.
"I said before, I’d let you live once, and today, I won’t kill you, nor will I continue taking lives." Yusuf Zuck gently held Karson Schwartz close. After all, Karson Schwartz was there, along with her father, grandfather, brothers, uncles, and many others beneath them. If he truly began slaughtering indiscriminately, he would have to consider Karson Schwartz’s feelings.
And today, his goals had already been achieved.
Landyn Torres shrugged. "Thank you."
"I offered you a suggestion before, and you can think about it. If you stay, I can make the decision to establish a ninth family in the Heavenly Realm—the Zuck clan—equal in rank to The Eight Great Families. You’ll have the privilege to enter the Eternal Hall and God’s Altar. In the future, the Heavenly Realm will no longer have Eight Great Families; it will have Nine Great Families. Consider this—what do you think?"
"You’re a smart man. I imagine you’ve already deduced my intentions. But working with us is undoubtedly better than aligning with the ancient gods. They’re unreliable. Besides, you have Karson Schwartz. Put simply, you’re already the son-in-law of the Schwartz Family!"
"So, what’s your answer? If you agree, we’ll throw you and Karson Schwartz a grand wedding right now!" Landyn Torres glanced at Karson Schwartz as he spoke. He was adept at gauging emotions and knew Karson Schwartz would likely be moved. Yusuf Zuck, being a sentimental soul, might acquiesce for her sake.
"My wedding is not something others give me. Sharing life’s hardships together, growing old side by side—that is my greatest happiness as Karson Schwartz. So, Uncle Landyn, don’t try to tempt my husband or use me and our wedding as leverage." Karson Schwartz, wise as ever, saw right through Landyn Torres’ intentions.
Landyn Torres shrugged again, feigning helplessness.
"Alright, about the bride price I mentioned earlier—you said you’d give it, didn’t you?" Yusuf Zuck turned to Landyn Torres.
"Of course. As long as you name it, and if it’s within the resources of The Eight Great Families, we’ll surely give it to you!" Landyn Torres nodded.
"Heavenly Patching Stones. Not too many—ten from each family!"
"What?"
"Ten? Are you insane?"
"I couldn’t scrounge up ten even if you tore my head off!"
"Do you think Heavenly Patching Stones are like mud balls? Available in infinite supply?"
The Eight Great Clan Leaders erupted in fury. Heavenly Patching Stones were treasures they couldn’t bear to use. They dared not squander them, as these were offerings meant for their ancestors. Over countless years, they had been scouring various realms to collect Heavenly Patching Stones, and once they amassed enough, they would send them to God’s Altar as offerings to their ancestors.
"My Schwartz Family doesn’t have that many. We only have roughly three or four," Karson Schwartz said softly.
"Hmm, I understand." Yusuf Zuck nodded.
Landyn Torres furrowed his brow. While others might not understand the true purpose of Heavenly Patching Stones, he knew very well. The ancestors used them for cultivation. Thus, while he could make decisions about other matters, he couldn’t, and dared not, make decisions regarding Heavenly Patching Stones.
He never expected Yusuf Zuck to demand Heavenly Patching Stones. From what he knew, not everyone could harness the energy inside these stones for cultivation. Some people found them utterly useless.
But Yusuf Zuck wanted Heavenly Patching Stones, now.
"Can we exchange them for something else? Anything else is negotiable," Landyn Torres countered.
"Yes, my Goodman Family can provide nine freshly ripened Divine Peaches!" declared the Goodman Clan Leader.
"My Berger family can offer ’Zhou Heavenly Fruit.’"
"My Xia Family can contribute a single Heavenly Pearl..."
"No. I only want Heavenly Patching Stones," Yusuf Zuck interrupted coldly. "Ten from each family—not a single one less!"
"You... that’s outrageous!" The Eight Great Clan Leaders bristled with anger.
Landyn Torres took a deep breath, saying, "Regarding Heavenly Patching Stones, I must consult with the ancestors before making a decision!"
"Fine." Yusuf Zuck responded nonchalantly.
But right after Yusuf Zuck finished speaking, suddenly, the void shuddered violently. The sky darkened in an instant, and silently, eight dark shadows emerged in the heavens. "No need to consult. We are here!"
