Invisible Security Guard
Chapter 1250 - 1249: The Pursuit

Chapter 1250: Chapter 1249: The Pursuit

Yusuf Zuck knew that before dawn was the best time to escape; the farther he could run, the better, because once daylight broke and the deputy commander and two personal soldiers were nowhere to be found, the barracks would surely commence a search. Then, they would discover the mine and subsequently realize that the deputy commander and the personal soldiers were likely murdered. It would also become evident that Yusuf Zuck and his two companions had fled.

Therefore, the barracks would quickly launch a manhunt. If the trio didn’t seize this moment to gain as much distance as possible, they would inevitably be caught.

Since Yusuf Zuck was carrying two grown men, his speed was fast but still much slower than when he flew alone.

Moreover, he had no intention of taking the two men to Blue Sea and Cloud Sky, for it was his home. Neither Alden Baxter nor Leonidas King had reached a level of trust sufficient for Yusuf to allow them entry.

By daylight, Yusuf Zuck realized he had already flown nearly a million miles, approximately one-third of the way. If he continued for another two-thirds, he could reach the Grand Snow Mountain, at which point the pursuers would likely be unable to find them.

At the same time, shortly after daybreak, the barracks finally noticed that Deputy Commander Santiago Wilkinson and the two personal soldiers were missing. As the commander was scheduled to muster the troops that day, it was discovered during the roll call that the three were absent, which infuriated the commander, who ordered an immediate search!

At this point, the commander hadn’t realized that the deputy commander and the personal soldiers had been killed.

The commander, also surnamed Berger and a member of the Zhou Clan, was known as Jaxon Berger. Although he was born out of wedlock, he was still quite exceptional in the family, for otherwise, he would not have achieved the status of Lower Heavenly God and certainly would not have become the commander here.

He sat sternly on the reviewing stand, exuding an imposing presence. The barracks had a total of three deputy commanders, all of high status.

The Heavenly Realm boasted the Eight Great Families of the Heavenly Realm, but many more were affiliated with the great families. For instance, the Wilkinson Family was considered a second-class family and was a vassal of the Berger Family. Descendants from these vassal families also worked and served in the Berger Family.

Santiago Wilkinson was one such individual. In truth, Jaxon Berger despised the man, for he had no bottom line and took pleasure in fooling around with the men of other families rather than women; he was a depraved individual.

Of course, Santiago Wilkinson knew how to curry favor and had provided Jaxon with many benefits.

However, roll calls were serious matters, and as the leading officer, Jaxon had declared that there would be a muster today. Santiago’s absence was a direct affront to Jaxon’s authority. Military law dictated that such a transgression could result in execution.

Moreover, today’s roll call marked Jaxon’s first since rotating to this post. Santiago’s failure to show respect at such a critical moment was a slap in Jaxon’s face, and even if he didn’t kill Santiago, he was determined to flay the man alive today!

"Sir, Sir, disaster has struck!" Just as Jaxon Berger sat grim-faced on the reviewing stand, a messenger returned hastily from the search.

"What is it?" Jaxon Berger’s legs were crossed with a large saber resting on them. Sheathed yet still emitting a chilly menace, it was clearly no ordinary weapon.

"Reporting to you, sir: Deputy Commander Wilkinson and the two personal soldiers are likely dead. We found these things in one of the passages!" The reporting soldier presented a handful of earth: "This soil is stained with blood and shows traces of burning. The military physician has determined that the blood holds the scent of Deputy Commander Wilkinson, and, what’s more, three slave miners are missing from that passage!"

"What?" Jaxon Berger was taken aback by the report; he truly hadn’t intended to kill Santiago Wilkinson. After all, executing a member of the Wilkinson Family would demand a difficult explanation. But now, Santiago had been murdered?

Who else in the entire barracks could possibly have the means to kill Santiago Wilkinson?

"Immediately contact the Wilkinson Family and inquire about the status of Santiago Wilkinson’s Lifebound Jade Slip!" Jaxon Berger quickly composed himself amidst the shock. As a chief commander capable of leading troops, his problem-solving and decision-making were clear-cut.

"Yes, sir!" The reporting soldier promptly retrieved a communication jade slip, similar in function to the Message Jade Disc of the Immortal Realm, only it was called Jade Simple in the Heavenly Realm, simple as in dispatch, symbolizing the essence of a message.

It took just five minutes before a personal guard bowed and said, "Sir, the Lifebound Jade Slip of Deputy Commander Wilkinson has shattered in the Wilkinson family shrine!"

"Hmph, what are the names of those three audacious slaves who have the audacity to defy the heavens?" Jaxon Berger angrily slapped the armrest.

"One of them is a mining foreman named Leonidas King, another is called Alden Baxter, and the last one goes by the name of Gheng Gheng; here is the roster!" The guard handed over a list.

"Hoo—" Jaxon Berger scanned it briefly, and immediately released his Divine Sense. As a Lower Heavenly God, his Divine Sense could reach beyond a million miles, the limit for a Lower Heavenly God!

That’s right, within the Heavenly Realm, due to the peculiar nature of the plane, even Lower Heavenly Gods can only extend their Divine Sense a little over a million miles.

However, if they were to travel to the Immortal Realm or other planes, their Divine Sense would be able to stretch indefinitely!

"What? Damn it, they’ve run so far?" At the edge of his Divine Sense, he spotted someone flying, carrying two others; all three had tattoos on their faces and wore their slaves’ garments, with two of them also wielding large sabers.

"To the northwest, a million miles away, Deputy General Xu with the first squad, Deputy General Yuan with the third squad, and you with the fifth squad—go and capture them, and I want them alive!" Jaxon Berger sat motionless as the orders were dispatched with his personal guard leading the fifth squad.

Each squad consisted of ten men, so there were thirty-three men in total.

Upon receiving their orders, the thirty-three men swiftly took to the air and formed a three-point formation, chasing in the northwest direction.

Meanwhile, Jaxon Berger frowned and said, "A slave who can fly? But I still can’t discern his cultivation level. What is going on here?"

At the same time, Yusuf Zuck, who was on the run, instantly noticed thirty-three men charging towards them from the barracks.

His Telekinesis could see the barracks, so every move there was clear in his mind.

"The enemy has set out, and they’re fast. Judging by their pace, they will catch up to us before nightfall, even before we reach the Great Snow Mountain!" Yusuf Zuck spoke with a grave tone.

"Then let’s take them on. Kill one, and we break even; kill two, and we make a profit!" Alden Baxter bellowed.

"The problem is you can’t kill even one!" Leonidas King couldn’t help but laugh and cry after saying that, then he asked, "Gheng Gheng, what should we do?"

"No choice. All I can do is keep increasing our speed. If they catch up before we enter the Great Snow Mountain, then we’ll have no choice but to fight!"

"Has the Commander arrived yet?" Leonidas King pondered aloud.

"No!" Yusuf Zuck shook his head.

"Shh!" Both Leonidas King and Alden Baxter took a deep breath. As long as the Commander had not arrived, there was still hope for them to live, because they had witnessed Gheng Gheng’s ability—a single move that killed the Deputy Commander. So even if the enemy had sent thirty-three men, they still had a chance to survive!

Yusuf Zuck didn’t say anything, resigning himself to fate. Moreover, he had used the Cosmos Rod before out of sheer necessity when there were no outsiders around, so he wasn’t worried about leaking the information. However, if he were to use it during a confrontation with many enemies, the news would surely spread. Once word that the Cosmos Rod appeared in the Heavenly Realm got out, survival would become impossible. The elites of the Eight Great Families of the Heavenly Realm would undoubtedly come after it!

"Go, go, go..." He bit his tongue hard, forcing himself to keep running for his life!
