Chapter 1247: Chapter 1246: Misfortune Comes Flying
The formation of the Mud Sea signifies a Lower-level Divine Person, and this is the initial realm that all Ascenders most dream of attaining.
Of course, the Divine People born and raised in the Heavenly Realm have no such troubles, as they already possess a Mud Sea in the womb. Thus, upon birth, their Mud Sea is defined, and they are born as Lower-level Divine People.
However, aspiring to become an Intermediate Divine Person, which involves cultivating a Mud Pill, relies on one’s own cultivation and a myriad of resource supplies beforehand. Without the proper qualifications, one could spend their entire life and still may not achieve the status of an Intermediate Divine Person, nor cultivate a Mud Pill.
Transitioning from a Lower-level to an Intermediate Divine Person is a hurdle—a significant one.
Yusuf Zuck realized that it was extremely difficult for him to achieve Intermediate status because his Mud Sea was too vast. If others possessed one as small as an egg, his was undoubtedly as large as a dinosaur egg. Moreover, his Mud Sea required the power of the Heavenly Dao, so he truly needed cumulative daily effort.
After cultivating on the ground for nearly ten hours, he stealthily returned to the Slave Cave.
Over the subsequent months, he frequently came out to cultivate, absorbing the energies from the void to fortify his Mud Sea.
Yet, there was no improvement, because the amount of energy he needed was simply too vast. The energy stolen by the Eye of Heaven was limited. At the very least, it seemed like he had vacuumed all the energy within his cultivation area, causing it to dwindle progressively.
...
One day, after making his regular offering of three Spirit Stones, Leonidas King did not leave immediately but instead handed him and Alden Baxter half a biscuit each.
Counting the time, Yusuf Zuck had been here for nearly two years already, so he and Leonidas King got along quite well, often addressing each other as brothers.
And then there was Alden Baxter. The three seemed to have formed a solid trio, with Leonidas King as the boss. Sometimes, he could even procure some alcohol. Alden Baxter was a smart man who didn’t run away, so he worked hard and handed all the extra Spirit Stones to Leonidas King. Over time, the three of them developed a very harmonious relationship. Eventually, both Yusuf Zuck and Alden Baxter would give their extra Spirit Stones to Leonidas King. However, Leonidas King stopped accepting them and told them to dig a hole to hide the stones, to keep as their own private stash.
"Be more careful lately and try to make yourselves look dirtier," Leonidas King advised, sitting on a mound of dirt as Yusuf Zuck and Alden Baxter each gnawed on half a biscuit.
"Why? What’s there to be careful about? There isn’t even an insect here, what are we supposed to be cautious of?" Alden Baxter’s temper had grown increasingly short, and he had been sullen these days.
"The garrison has been rotated!" Leonidas King whispered. "The original camp chief, that Lower Heavenly God, took a few deputy chiefs with him, and they’ve been replaced."
"Does that have anything to do with us?" Alden Baxter rolled his eyes.
"Let me finish," Leonidas King looked around cautiously. "Among the new deputy chiefs, there’s a sadist."
"What do you mean?" Yusuf Zuck and Alden Baxter simultaneously perked up their ears.
"This deputy chief has been going down to the mines a lot these days, just loitering around, and then he took a newcomer up to the surface. When that newcomer came back, he was barely alive. It took him three days to recover, but even then, he wasn’t lucid—sometimes he cried, sometimes he laughed. Damn it, he was a Great Emperor before, and now he’s gone mad!"
"Hurry up, what exactly happened?" Alden Baxter pressed.
"Just wait, don’t rush me," Leonidas King said in a calm pace. "Three days after that man returned, the deputy chief went into the mine again and took someone else. However, that person never came back."
"The next day, he went down to the mines again, took another person, but that one came back and ended his own life by slashing his throat."
"No one knew what was happening at first, but that deputy warden was coming down almost every day to take people," someone began. "Some came back and said nothing, but a couple of days ago, someone spilled the truth. That deputy warden has a taste for men and is an extreme pervert, I heard. He beats people while he’s at it, using a whip, dripping wax from candles, poking with needles, even biting. Six people in our Northeast mine have died from his torture, and I’ve heard it’s even worse in the southwest and southeast mines."
"Damn." Yusuf Zuck and Alden Baxter shuddered simultaneously, then, without a word, they grabbed some soil and smeared it on their faces!
The reason Yusuf was friends with Alden and Leonidas King was because both suited his taste; they were all tough guys with similar temperaments!
"Ha ha ha!" Leonidas laughed heartily. "You really have to smear that stuff on. Who asked you to all be pretty boys? I’m ugly, so that sick bastard definitely won’t fancy me!"
"You never know what that person might be into," Alden commented quietly.
"That’s true," Leonidas shuddered, then also grabbed some soil to smear on himself!
While the three of them were ’dressing up’ and chatting with laughter, suddenly a weird, eerie voice chimed in, "What amusing tales are you sharing here? It’s been a long time since I’ve heard such happy laughter from you divine slaves!"
The speaker’s tone was cultured but laced with an ominous chill, and his voice sounded unsettlingly like Tyler Nash!
As the voice fell, a young man in a white robe approached, carrying a lantern and followed by two bodyguards!
Yusuf, Leonidas, and Alden were stunned then suddenly stood up, not knowing what to do.
"Hehehe, why are you so dirty," the man in the white robe asked, his smile warm like a spring breeze, but Yusuf and the others felt a bone-chilling cold.
This man was the deputy warden; they could tell just by looking at his route!
The deputy warden held up his lantern, seemingly inspecting their faces, then shook his head with a wry smile, "I’m more about the bones, the skin is secondary. So, you can’t escape my Dharma Eye by just getting dirty."
With a snap of his fingers, three mists of water formed above Yusuf and the others’ heads and suddenly drenched them, washing the dirt away!
"Ah, good bone quality, good potential, and handsome too!" The pervert kept looking at Yusuf and Alden, and at that moment, their eyes turned green with fear!
"Alright, you two, come with me!" He pointed at Yusuf and Alden, then turned to walk away!
The two bodyguards, with swords at their waists, came forward and motioned with their eyes for them to follow.
Yusuf’s legs felt as if they were filled with lead, unbearably heavy, and Alden felt as if a mountain weighed on his back, also immensely heavy, and for a moment, they couldn’t step forward!
Of course, it wasn’t that they couldn’t move, but they truly dared not take that step!
"Hmm? What’s wrong?" The deputy warden stopped, his gaze slightly icy as he glanced over at them!
"Damn it, I’d rather die than suffer your humiliation!" Alden burst out unexpectedly with a shout of courage and kicked at a Divine Weapon next to him!
However, the Divine Weapon reacted swiftly. As the kick landed, the weapon had already been drawn, slicing towards Alden’s leg!
Yusuf knew their good days were over!
