Chapter 1245: Chapter 1244: Alden Baxter, the Great Emperor, Reminisces about the Past

Although the Berger family’s Eastern masters didn’t regard slaves as human beings, there were also many slaves who didn’t consider themselves human either. They had compromised, no longer sought to live with dignity, and for the sake of avoiding toil, they had abandoned the supreme glory they once enjoyed in the Lower Realm and given up their own dignity. They merely wished to scrape by, to satisfy their hunger or male and female desires.

The newcomers didn’t go to register, but many of the veteran slaves eagerly jostled to sign up for male servitude.

In their hearts, being able to enjoy women, not having to go down into the mines to work, and being able to eat was a matter of joy worth fighting for; therefore, the registration caused an uproar. Some who pushed forward and crossed the safety line were beaten to death by several strong men and then hung up on wooden stakes to dry.

As slaves, they had no human rights, no right to life, no freedom, not even the right to eat or drink—at times, the masters here treated them as if they were pigs or dogs. Thus, many newcomers felt a pang of empathy at this scene and felt an even deeper sense of indignation and injustice in their hearts!

However, the old slaves were no longer shocked by such incidents. Time truly is a sharp blade that had cut off the edges and corners of their being. They were no longer sharp or spirited; they had deviated from the essence of being human and had become walking corpses!

This is the Heavenly Realm, the supremely sublime Heavenly Realm.

This is also a graveyard, a graveyard for dreamers.

Yusuf Zuck followed many others back down into the mine, then continued to work. He was silent and uncomplaining, but it felt as if a thorn had grown in his heart, causing him unbearable discomfort.

Fatty had ascended, and so had Ember Vance. Could they be suffering this same torment?

About five days later, the Berger family’s inspection team did indeed arrive, consisting of three men and two women, all young people. Two of the three men went down into the mine. They weren’t actually checking on the well-being of the slaves but were using magical treasures to detect how many Spirit Stones were left underground to be mined.

The life or death of the slaves meant nothing to them.

After the inspectors left, indeed, a thousand female servants arrived and entered the mines—laughter and joyful voices could be heard from every tunnel, as well as all kinds of cries like those of pigs being slaughtered or lascivious moans!

Leonidas King had his contraband, had Spirit Stones, so this chap had a good seven days of leisure, while newly ascended individuals like Alden Baxter the Great Emperor didn’t enjoy themselves at all!

Because to indulge in leisure was to admit defeat and moral decay!

Seven days later, Leonidas King gathered them again for a small meeting, encouraging them to work hard and only at the end he said with a laugh, "I know you haven’t been here long and can’t comprehend the situation in such a short time. But have you ever thought that under tens of thousands of years of monotonous existence, even true divine beings would go mad?"

"That’s why the Eastern masters thought of allowing us some pleasures at appropriate times. I’m not afraid of you laughing at me. In fact, old fellows like me look forward to this once-in-a-millennium chance. The female servants come only once in a thousand years. You must have been quite esteemed in the Lower Realm, able to find women whenever you wanted, but here in the Slave Cave, when one day you want a woman, you’ll only be left to masturbate. To us, how luxurious is a woman?"

"If you’ve missed it, then you’ve missed it. But I believe that by the next millennium, you’ll all be like me, doing whatever it takes for that sliver of joy, to prove that you’re still human!"

"And another thing I want to mention: I, the Great Emperor, once, on the Lower Realm, with a single sword, consecutively killed thirty-two peers of my level. But... heh heh... heh heh, being able to enjoy oneself in due time, that’s what life is all about!" Leonidas King laughed heartily as he left, and the others walked away somberly. Alden Baxter, however, stayed behind, his teeth still not fully grown in, his speech whistling through the gaps.

At that moment, he seemed to look down on Leonidas King, sneering and laughing, "What’s the big deal about killing thirty-two Great Emperors? I, the Emperor, with a sword in hand, who among Immortals, Demons, Monsters, and Buddhas dares to stand in my way? Who could stop me? Which beauty or hero under the heavens hasn’t bent at the knee?" He boasted proudly and leakily, his tongue lolling.

"Keep blowing that trumpet," Yusuf Zuck chuckled.

"Blow what? I am Alden Baxter, the Great Emperor, the foremost among the Immortal Realm. Damn it, now I’m worse off than pigs and dogs. Sooner or later, I will rise and destroy the damned Berger family!"

"But that will have to wait for thirty thousand years!" Yusuf Zuck laughed.

"Do you really plan to toil here for thirty thousand years?" Alden Baxter suddenly lowered his voice, "I’ve figured out a way to break these chains. Once the chains are broken, we can fly. Do you dare escape with me?"

Yusuf Zuck gave him a surprised look and thought for a moment, saying, "I dare, but not right now!"

"Why not? I’ve never suffered like this in my life; I can’t take it anymore!" Alden Baxter exclaimed.

Yusuf Zuck shook his head, "I heard that a few days ago, some people from another group tried to escape. They were caught, and the Lower Heavenly God flayed them alive, cut off their limbs, gouged out their eyes, and then hanged them to death!"

"I’d rather die than continue mining for others like this!"

"Then where could you escape to? You’re unfamiliar with the terrain, your cultivation level is weak, and you’d be caught before getting far. So, listen to me, just endure for now. If you don’t have enough Spirit Stones, you can borrow some from me; I still have quite a lot!"

"No need, I appreciate your kindness. Mining Spirit Stones is not hard, but I just can’t swallow this indignity. Remember how glorious I once was aaaaah..." Alden Baxter shouted aloud.

"Stop yelling, or you’ll get Leonidas King in trouble!" Yusuf Zuck advised him.

"Indeed, Leonidas King is a decent man. Even though he compromised, I can understand him. To be intimate with a woman only once every thousand years – if it were me, I couldn’t bear it either. Remember the year when I had one wife and more than six hundred concubines? Which maiden in my household didn’t wish to climb into my bed?"

"Back in the day, a single word from me would make countless thousands tremble..."

"Back in the day, I..."

"Think about now instead of the past!" Yusuf Zuck interrupted him, "I’m off to mine; I have work to do!"

"Oh, not thinking of the past, gotta work..." Alden Baxter sighed wistfully and turned to leave.

Yusuf Zuck just shook his head. Unlike him, others couldn’t adapt to their circumstances and continue cultivating in secret, so it was no surprise that some could no longer bear it. In recent days, there had been a widespread outbreak of people attempting to escape, but without exception, all were captured!

Without their cultivation levels and still in chains, the divine slaves simply couldn’t get away!

And attempting to escape during this high-risk period was most dangerous, so he was really worried that Alden Baxter might try it.

But he could only offer so much advice. After all, the man was once a Great Emperor and should know what to do and what not to do; he was no child!

The road lies at your feet – how you choose to walk it is up to you!
