Chapter 1237: Chapter 1236: He is Growing Up
"Fools," they often say, "rarely hold grudges, but once they do, they remember them for a lifetime."
Yusuf Zuck’s definition of Hugh Zuck was that of a simpleton. Therefore, simpletons usually do not hate others deeply. And so, even when the cunning merchant sold him off, he didn’t bear a deep hatred upon figuring it out; instead, he was happy, thinking that the merchant had helped him.
The house he had been sold to belonged to the powerful Gould Family, where Lord Gould had a very promising son who, it was said, held a position akin to a protector in a great sect. Thus, the Gould name carried weight, at least in their corner of the world, where they were known as a significant household.
Upon arriving at the grand household, Hugh Zuck was put to work in strenuous labor daily, but he was never short of food or clothes, and thus he believed the merchant had indeed helped him.
After keeping an eye on Hugh Zuck for a few days and discovering that his foolish son intended to take root in House Gould, Yusuf Zuck was exceedingly vexed.
But it was Hugh’s choice, and Yusuf did not intervene or prevent, nor did he provide hidden assistance of any kind.
Moreover, Hugh Zuck had at least made friends; several servants had become his companions, and they lived in a room together, chatting and laughing, sometimes even practicing martial arts together.
However, Yusuf was aware that the Gould Family had kept a watchful eye on his foolish son because the boy had depleted all the game within thousands of miles. The Goulds had brought him back merely as a preliminary trial.
But in the midst of this, an incident occurred that led to a complete fallout between Hugh Zuck and the Gould Family.
It began with a young miss of the Goulds, who was rather mischievous. One day, upon seeing Hugh at work, she deliberately kept ordering him to do this and that—all menial tasks. At first, Hugh, naive as he was, didn’t mind the filth or fatigue.
But in his haste and clumsiness, Hugh soiled the young lady’s clothes, and that’s when she started to use the whip.
With the first strike of the whip, Hugh did not dodge or react; he just stared blankly at the young miss.
When the young miss demanded he kneel with the second strike, Hugh did not kneel. For Yusuf Zuck or Ruth Wilcox had taught Hugh that "One kneels only to Heaven, Earth, and parents, meaning that none but these had the right to demand it of Hugh Zuck.
Hugh remembered this lesson well; simple he might be, but he didn’t believe anyone had the right to make him kneel.
So, with the second lash, he neither kneeled nor moved.
With the third lash, the young miss aimed for his face. It was then Hugh remembered Yusuf’s teaching: "A blow to the face is an affront to one’s dignity. Strike another’s face, and they will harbor resentment, regardless of the severity. Conversely, if someone strikes your face, they have dehumanized you. Everything may be forsaken save for family, dignity, and spirit!"
When the third lash fell, Hugh snapped. Seizing the whip, he suddenly produced a rope and tied the young lady to a tree.
Servants and guardians tried to interfere, but with a single sweep of his arm, Hugh sent everyone tumbling to the ground!
Thereafter, using the young miss’s own whip, Hugh began to lash her. It was no longer about returning three lashes; as he struck her, he questioned, "If your clothes are dirty, I could wash them, but why strike another person?"
"Striking is one thing, but why aim for my face?"
Stubborn Hugh had fixated on this point, and as a result, all the Gould Family’s experts mobilized to subdue him, but anyone who approached was met with Hugh’s merciless whip. Struck by it, each one split skin and spilled blood, collapsing unable to move.
These people practiced body cultivation and were immensely strong, yet Hugh’s whiplash could sheer kill them!
And it wasn’t until then that the Gould Family realized in shock that the fool they had bought was actually a powerhouse!
"My father said that if you slap someone’s face, they will try everything possible to get revenge on you, so the best way is to just kill them first," said Big Bull. "But Big Bull has never killed anyone before, and I don’t want to kill anyone today either. So if you really hold a grudge against me, then I’ll just have to wait for you to take your revenge!" After having enough, Hugh Zuck dropped the whip and walked away.
By contrast, in the Gould Family courtyard, there was a scene of people wailing and lying all over the ground. It was true the Gould Family had experts and were a large household, but Hugh Zuck, a grandmaster rank fighter, was not someone they could handle.
After Hugh Zuck left, two servants followed him. These servants had had their fill of being mistreated, so they took advantage of the time when Big Bull was domineering and joined him to leave.
Yusuf Zuck drank a pot of wine in a small tavern and cheered for Big Bull. This child’s stubborn temper was a good trait, truly his own blood. Moreover, he handled the situation with restraint and didn’t kill the entire family, which would have been the case if it were the old demon Zuck himself.
After leaving the Gould Family, Hugh Zuck headed south with two companions. Although he was slow-witted, his two companions were clever and cunning, and Big Bull was obedient, so the trio headed south together.
And they ran for three months. Three months later, under the guidance of his two companions, they somehow reached a grand Sect and took part in the entry assessment. Yusuf Zuck also heard the two companions tell Hugh Zuck to conceal his abilities and not show his true skills until a critical moment—this was what you call a wolf in sheep’s clothing!
The two companions were indeed sharp, and Yusuf Zuck also thought it was a good thing for Hugh Zuck to have these two clever people by his side.
The three of them unsurprisingly became Disciples of that Sect and then embarked on a boring journey of cultivation, learning, and various missions and such.
Since Big Bull had joined the Sect, Yusuf Zuck wasn’t watching him every day anymore but would check in every other day, sometimes even every two days.
Big Bull was lucky and had a good life. In the Sect, he caught the attention of a mentor who took him under his wing, giving him careful teaching. His two companions also made rapid progress.
Yusuf Zuck felt very relieved, truly relieved. This was the real life, Hugh Zuck’s future would be good, it definitely would be.
Ten years later, the three of them became Inner Sect Disciples.
Twenty years later, all three of them had become core Disciples. In the same year, a grand competition was held on the planet, and Big Bull took first place, with his two companions taking second and third, turning Hugh Zuck into a shining star of the planet.
Although he was still simple-minded, he had become more stable and had also become shrewder.
Also, in the same year, a turning point occurred in Hugh Zuck’s life. A treacherous faction in the Sect framed him, nearly costing him his life.
The cause was that the Sect leader was very fond of him and intended to marry his daughter to Big Bull, but Big Bull did not agree. Moreover, the Sect leader’s daughter was not of good character, the loose waistband type.
Big Bull did not agree, and the Sect leader didn’t say much since Big Bull was a talent of the Sect. When he said he had a wife and child back home, the Sect leader had no right to insist. But the Sect leader’s daughter took Hugh Zuck’s refusal as a slight, so she actually poisoned him.
Yusuf Zuck watched with his own eyes as the villainous woman poisoned his son, but he clenched his teeth and didn’t intervene, wanting to see how Hugh Zuck would handle it.
Hugh Zuck was not killed by the poison, but one of his two brothers was poisoned to death after drinking the soup meant for him.
After coming to this world, Big Bull flew into a rage for the second time, and this time he finally killed someone, and it was the Sect leader’s own daughter!
As it is said, a life for a life, Heavenly Doctrine and Earthly Justice. After killing the Sect leader’s daughter, he finally began to fall into the fate of endless pursuits!
"Grow up, mature, this is real life!" As Yusuf Zuck watched Hugh Zuck cut through the sword light and blood rain, breaking out of layer upon layer of encirclement, his blood boiled with excitement. Only through this would his son truly grow up!
