Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Money and Brother Should Be Kept Separate [Third Update]
"Bro, what happened to your hand? And what’s with the blood in your car? Whose car is this?" On the airport road, having gotten into the car, Sara Zuck frowned, her brother’s right hand was wrapped in a bandage, and the car was all bloodstained, so she felt that something had happened.
"Last night, I saved a driver from a car accident, took him to the hospital, and that’s how the blood got in the car. I hurt my hand while saving him."
"Really?" Sara asked, skeptical.
"Why would I lie to you? The guy is still in the hospital, not sure if he can be saved," Yusuf Zuck sighed.
"Then whose car is this?" Sara pressed.
"It’s the boss’s, of course," Yusuf chuckled, he didn’t plan to tell Sara about his current situation. After all, she was still in school, and knowing too much wasn’t good. If he told her that he had made tens of millions in the past few days, she wouldn’t be happy, on the contrary, she would definitely lose sleep out of worry for him.
Sometimes, wealth can’t necessarily buy happiness. Sara was the kind of girl who was content with whatever came her way, and to her, her brother being safe and sound was happiness. Yusuf didn’t want her to worry.
Sara’s female classmate in Shanghai was called Sarah Cooke. Since they had met in Shanghai, gone shopping and eaten out together once, they had become very familiar with each other.
Sarah Cooke was eloquent, and her mouth was particularly sharp; she was never the one to lose out.
However, in front of Yusuf Zuck, Sarah Cooke became very reserved and extremely polite, addressing him as ’Brother Yusuf.’
After finishing lunch at a restaurant near the academy, Sara and Sarah Cooke did not get back into the car. At the same time, Sara pulled Yusuf aside and whispered, "Bro, the other bag, it’s some daily necessities I bought for you and also a gift for Sister Ruth, please give it to her when you see her."
"Sure," Yusuf smiled. Sara didn’t know that Ruth Wilcox had returned to the United States.
"Mm," Sara nodded, and also reached out to help Yusuf straighten his collar, saying, "I know you’ve made some money, but don’t spend it recklessly. You must deposit two-thirds of your earnings into my card every month, you got that?"
"Mm, but how much have you saved up now? I’m telling you, spend on what you need to, buy what you should. Don’t save money for me now," Yusuf knew that Sara had another bank card all to herself, with money that she had diligently saved up over the years. And this money was meant for Yusuf’s future marriage.
Indeed, she never touched the money her brother gave her, saving it all up, and she also feared that Yusuf would squander his money, thus she kept it for his future marriage.
"No matter how much I save, it’s never enough. Just don’t waste it, alright? Bro, don’t wear yourself out. It will all be fine in a few years, and I’ll earn money to take care of you." Sara suddenly hugged Yusuf, her eyes reddening a bit, "I don’t care what you do out there, but you can’t do anything illegal. Don’t make me worry."
"I know, my hand really got hurt while saving someone. Be good, you’re so grown-up, still throwing yourself at me like that, your classmate is watching," Yusuf stroked her hair. The siblings relied on each other for survival, so their bond was irreplaceable by anyone.
"What’s there to be afraid of, you are my brother, not someone else," Sara pouted but then let go of Yusuf, saying, "I’m heading back to school now, remember what I said."
"I remember. Don’t run around, and focus on your studies at school," Yusuf reminded her.
"I got it. I’m off." Sara waved and then walked away, arm-in-arm with Sarah Cooke.
"Goodbye, Brother Yusuf," said Sarah Cooke politely as she also waved to Yusuf.
Yusuf nodded with a smile, got into the car, but didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he took out his phone and called Samuel Ross: "My sister’s back at school, she just entered the campus gate."
"Got it, don’t worry," Samuel Ross replied.
"Yeah," Yusuf Zuck ended the call and at the same time pulled over the travel bag from the back seat.
The bag was large, stuffed full, and deep.
When Yusuf opened the bag, he saw a red box right on top, the gift he had bought for Ruth Wilcox.
Opening the box, a beautiful butterfly hairpin was revealed, quite pretty and delicate.
The gift wasn’t expensive, might not be worth much, but it was Sara’s thoughtfulness, so Yusuf carefully stored the hairpin, planning to give it to Ruth the next time they met.
Underneath the hairpin were some clothes, including two sets of underwear since it was deep autumn and time to wear them, a set of thermal underwear, two T-shirts, more than a dozen pairs of socks, several packs of boxer briefs, and so on—quite a number of miscellaneous items.
Yusuf grinned, as Sara always bought him some undergarments to change into. She had just the one brother, and this brother, being a typical man, was careless and didn’t know how to take care of himself, so she had to do it for him.
After Yusuf sat in the car and waited a while, the Buick commercial vehicle drove up, and Dream Morrow and Pillar got out and walked over.
Yusuf rolled down the window and said, "Be safe."
"Got it," Dream replied with a wave, while Pillar nodded with a smile to Yusuf, then the two went into the campus.
Once Samuel Ross had parked the car, he squeezed into Yusuf’s car.
Yusuf also turned and got out of his car, taking out several bundles of cash from the trunk and throwing them to Samuel.
He always kept more than a million in cash in his car—Fleur Carson’s million, along with several hundred thousand of his own—for emergencies.
"What’s this money for again?" Samuel asked, somewhat bewildered after taking 15 or 16 bundles of hundred-yuan bills.
"Remember the other day when Pillar took his colleagues out to dinner? I said I would pay for it, so you give it back to him, and didn’t you go to the hospital on my behalf to pay some bills yesterday? Just take it directly back, I said I would cover it. The rest is for you guys—meals, gas, cigarettes, and so on. Keep it with you; you’ll manage it."
"Oh, I’ll keep track of how much we spend. Yusuf, even if you’re rich, you can’t be wasteful. As brothers, you should give what needs to be given, but not what doesn’t need to be given. That’s not meant to be rude; we just need to have rules and protocols going forward," Samuel reflected aloud. "It’s a money-driven society now. Brothers become enemies, fathers and sons become foes, usually over money. So, things need to be separated clearly; I don’t want us brothers to end up falling out over cash."
"I like hearing you say that," Yusuf praised Samuel. Indeed, many examples showed money could breed enmity, hatred, and division.
He was aware that his current situation, spending money like water and sustaining Samuel, Pillar, and Dream, wasn’t right. However, he had his reasons, largely due to his sister. Her safety was paramount. How could he expect work without offering provisions? He feared Samuel and the others would lack motivation, so at least for the short term, he needed to make sure they had enough to eat and drink, along with the chance to earn money.
The goal was simple—to keep them at ease.
"So, in the future, we can’t just give out money like this," Samuel said with a smile.
"Yeah, I have it in mind," Yusuf nodded, "Since you guys are with me, I certainly won’t let you suffer a loss."
