Chapter 1005: Chapter 104: Transcribing Books on the Water Surface
"Under someone’s roof, one must bow their head," Yusuf Zuck had no choice but to grit his teeth and go up the mountain to pull wild vegetables since he couldn’t defeat the White-Haired Witch and couldn’t leave the Campbell Sect.
Indeed, the wild grass the White-Haired Witch mentioned was actually chives, similar to those in the secular world, but taller with a touch of Spiritual Energy.
Yusuf Zuck had tasted a leaf before, and it was undoubtedly chives, even a million times better than those in the secular world.
But since Aiden Wilkinson said it was wild grass, it could only be wild grass.
While pulling the grass, Yusuf’s chest still hurt since Aiden had struck him hard, shattering his heart and causing massive internal bleeding.
Of course, what Yusuf didn’t know was that Aiden had deliberately made that strike, and while Yusuf was enduring the pain on the mountain pulling grass, Aiden was constantly monitoring him with Divine Sense Exploration to see what elixir he used.
But a few minutes later, she noticed that Zayden Newton’s presence was getting stronger, and the organs he had damaged miraculously seemed to heal themselves!
"Huh~" Aiden took a deep breath. It was beyond her expectations. This closed-door disciple newly taken by Jack Gardner turned out to have a unique fortune and a significant secret within.
"He’s tough; it seems the old methods won’t work on him anymore. I’ll have to find a new way to teach him to cultivate." Aiden shook her head. She owed Jack Gardner a favor, so she had to teach Zayden the ways of cultivation.
"However, according to the intel from the Alchemy College, this young man does have character," Aiden suddenly smiled. "Edison Yates was even cursed by him for being crazy, ha, well cursed. But this man’s edges are too sharp, so they must be dulled first!"
Yusuf, who had started pulling weeds on the mountain, soon discovered the uniqueness of this highland; the immortal chives weren’t scattered everywhere but grew in patches, so he could probably finish within three days.
...
Heaven favors the diligent. After two and a half days, with his hands stained green and his white robe turned into a muddy one, Yusuf had finally finished pulling up the mountain chives.
Certainly, during these two-plus days, he fully concentrated, controlling the phantom hands of Telekinesis to aid in pulling the grass.
Although he had many faults, he was serious about his work. Since he couldn’t escape it, he attended to it wholeheartedly, thus after two and a half days, not a single chive was left on the mountain.
"Clean yourself up and then come over here!" Aiden’s voice reached his ears.
"Yes." Yusuf ran to the lakeside, changed his clothes, washed his face and hands, and then flew back to Aiden’s cabin.
"What is cultivation?" As soon as he landed, Aiden inside the cabin suddenly asked this cryptic question.
"What is cultivation?" Yusuf paused, then pondered for a moment before replying, "I think... everyone’s path of cultivation is different, but I believe what I cultivate is my heart."
"And what is the purpose of your cultivation?" Aiden continued.
"Initially, it was just to survive, but later on, it was for the people around me, my wife, friends, brothers, and other family members."
"You live for others?"
"You could say that, but not entirely; while I live for others, I’m also experiencing the wonders of my own life!"
"I heard that during the first assessment at the Alchemy College, you cursed the question-setter, Edison Yates, on your paper. Why?"
"His question was abnormal. He asked if Alchemy or the principles of humanity and reason were more important. Isn’t that obvious? What is someone who only knows Alchemy but lacks these principles? A bastard, so I said he was crazy!"
"Oh." Aiden inside nodded, "Weren’t you afraid of offending him then? Why were you so bold?"
"I’m the type who would rather stand to live than kneel to die. That question was so infuriating I cursed without thinking of the consequences."
"Disregard of consequences, heh." Aiden Wilkinson laughed from within, then added, "This is a flaw in your character, and it will be detrimental to you in the future."
"Thank you for the instruction, Teacher. I also know that what I did was not right." Yusuf Zuck finally felt a hint of fondness for Aiden Wilkinson. She was still able to tell him that what he did was wrong, so that must count as concern, right? The resentment he had felt for being made to pluck weeds earlier also dissipated quite a bit.
"You possess the ability to heal your own injuries, so the methods I’ve taught others before won’t work for you. Thus, we will change our approach!"
"I will follow Teacher’s instructions." Yusuf Zuck nodded. Since he had accepted the path, he would persevere.
"I have a book of Dharma Gate here that is not of the Campbell Sect, called Cultivating God Technique of Supreme Unity. Even when cultivated to the highest realm, it only reaches the state of a Golden Immortal. However, the creator of this technique was a genius of his time!"
When he said this, Aiden Wilkinson paused and asked, "Do you know what a genius is?"
"It’s someone who learns quickly, cultivates fast, has an agile mind, and is destined for great achievements in the future, right?" Yusuf Zuck blurted out his answer.
"That is not a genius. What you’ve mentioned, even an ordinary person could achieve after taking some elixirs."
"Actually, a genius has their own cultivation system, creating practices that suit them best, rather than cultivating other people’s arts and methods like everyone else. So in my eyes, those from the Seed Hall are not geniuses, because they are all following the mainstream rules without trying to innovate or change. Consequently, when they reach a certain level, they are bound to become mediocre."
"Only those who write books and create their own Divine Techniques can be called geniuses, because they are the ones who brought these books into existence. Later generations cultivate according to the practices and systems they created, so they are the greatest and the true geniuses!"
"The Cultivating God Technique of Supreme Unity I mentioned was uniquely created by a predecessor. At each realm, he comprehended his own path and created Divine Arts. Later, he went to the Immortal Realm, and eventually, he became a legend there."
"What you need to do now is to copy the Cultivating God Technique of Supreme Unity!"
"Rustle rustle-" From the wooden hut flew out a book, no more than a hundred pages, its pages slightly yellowed from age, with "Cultivating God" written in large characters on them.
"Yes, I’ll copy it now." Yusuf Zuck took out his own paper and pen and began to copy sitting next to a wooden table in the courtyard.
"I haven’t finished speaking yet," Aiden Wilkinson said. "I don’t want you to copy it onto paper, but onto the surface of the water!"
"What?" Yusuf Zuck was immediately stunned. Copy onto the surface of water? Could one even write on water? It would be possible if it were frozen!
"You heard me correctly, it is to copy onto the surface of water. All the text of the book must be written on the water without the characters scattering, lasting for the duration of three breaths, then you will be deemed to have finished copying!"
"This can’t possibly be done, right? Unless the lake’s surface was frozen!" Yusuf Zuck shook his head persistently. This was fundamentally impossible!
Aiden Wilkinson said, "In this world, there is nothing that can’t be done, it’s all a matter of whether you are determined and persistent enough."
"In that case, may I ask, Teacher, did the disciples you taught before also copy the book on the surface of water?" Yusuf Zuck asked oddly.
Aiden Wilkinson answered, "You have quite a few questions."
"Alright then, one final question, Teacher. How long do I have?"
"I will only teach you for ten years, so you have ten years. Of course, during this time you can also return to perform Alchemy, and when you have nothing else to do, you can continue copying the book."
"Okay, then I will try," Yusuf Zuck said, his competitive spirit ignited by Aiden Wilkinson; the challenge of copying onto the surface of water was indeed alluring.
