Chapter 835: Chapter 831 Aftermath
Dozens of special police officers jumped off the vehicles one after another, quickly dispersing and cordoning off the accident site ahead.
These special police officers were armed and imposing, tall and fierce. Captain Wang noticed a detail: all these officers were facing away from the accident site, looking outward.
It was clear they were guarding something.
A police officer got out of a car, pulled up a circle of yellow tape behind the special police, enclosing the accident scene, then they scattered.
This scene left several patrol officers in Captain Wang’s car exchanging bewildered glances. The officer in the passenger seat couldn’t help but ask, “Did they discover aliens or something?”
Captain Wang raised an eyebrow, puzzled, when he saw a middle-aged man with a potbelly getting out of a police car—it was their station chief.
The chief got out and approached a Jeep Wrangler in the middle of the police cars. The Jeep’s window rolled down, and the chief nodded and spoke humbly to the people inside, pointed towards the accident scene, then straightened up, sucked in his beer belly, and saluted sharply.
As the Wrangler entered the cordoned area, the chief still maintained his salute. Captain Wang approached the chief’s side, gazing at the Wrangler in the distance, and asked, “Chief, who’s that?”
A sudden voice startled the chief, causing him to release his belly in surprise, and he snapped, “Director Luo!”
“Huh? Which Director Luo?” Captain Wang asked.
The chief replied impatiently, “Who else could it be?” He pointed towards the sky, “The topmost in Hua Hai city! Director Luo Guozhong, Director Luo!”
Captain Wang looked incredulous, as if a ghost had seen King Yan, and after a long time, he murmured, “In the middle of the night, Director Luo himself came over. Is the person involved the mayor’s son?”
The chief thought for a moment and frowned, “I’m afraid even the mayor’s son wouldn’t have such clout, would he?”
Ye Fan’s influence was something Luo Guozhong wasn’t clear about, but after Vice Mayor Wang Hongsheng was swiftly and entirely removed in Hua Hai city, he could make a conservative estimate.
Moreover, Luo Guozhong noticed that after Vice Mayor Wang Hongsheng’s downfall, his loyal followers were either transferred or suspended, and his influence in Hua Hai was uprooted with lightning speed—executed so cleanly and efficiently that there wasn’t a single person in Hua Hai who stepped up for Wang Hongsheng.
Later, Luo Guozhong received some information that the senior leaders in Hua Hai remained silent due to pressure from the four nine cities.
The four nine cities, under the imperial city, are home to prominent families. A direct descendant emerging from such a place is like a dragon crossing the river, something a local tyrant like Luo Guozhong wouldn’t dare provoke.
So, upon receiving Ye Fan’s call, Luo Guozhong, who had been asleep, immediately dispatched a large police force to rush over at the fastest speed.
The Wrangler stopped, Luo Guozhong jumped out of the car, saw Ye Fan, and quickly jogged over, extending his hand from afar, “Mr. Ye!”
Ye Fan stood up and extended his right hand, Luo Guozhong hurriedly grasped it with both hands, “Mr. Ye, are you alright?”
“No problem, but I’m sorry to trouble you for coming over so late at night,” Ye Fan said.
“Oh, it’s no trouble at all,” Luo Guozhong laughed, “Such an incident is entirely my responsibility as the director, for allowing these thugs to disturb you, Mr. Ye!”
After exchanging a few polite words, Luo Guozhong noticed Shen Yan standing aside, “And this is…”
“Oh, she’s a friend of mine,” Ye Fan said, introducing, “Yanyan, this is Director Luo, the police chief of our Hua Hai city.”
Shen Yan was slightly surprised, but still extended her hand politely, “Hello, Director Luo.”
They shook hands briefly, and as Shen Yan was about to withdraw, Luo Guozhong still held on, curiously observing her.
Ye Fan slightly frowned.
Realizing his faux pas, Luo Guozhong quickly let go, “I’m sorry, my apologies, I just…” he paused, asking, “Miss, you are Shen Yan, right?”
“Huh?” Shen Yan was taken aback, “Director Luo, do you know me?”
Luo Guozhong said, “Of course! My daughter is your big fan, listens to your music every day, and has your posters all over her bedroom walls!” As he spoke, he took out his phone, showing a photo, “Look, this is my daughter.”
In the photo was a girl, looking like a high schooler, with delicate features, making a funny face. Behind her was a pink wall plastered with Shen Yan’s posters.
“Oh, really,” Shen Yan couldn’t help but smile slightly.
They exchanged a couple more words, and Luo Guozhong remembered Ye Fan’s issue, promptly steering the conversation back.
Ye Fan briefly recounted the events, naturally omitting details about ancient martial arts practitioners.
Walking around the scene, even the seasoned Luo Guozhong, who had seen countless crime scenes, couldn’t help but feel a bit stunned.
When he saw the fist mark on the Mercedes door, his eye muscles twitched involuntarily—how could such a punch imprint appear on a steel door?!
“This…” he looked at Ye Fan.
Ye Fan walked over and said, “Director Luo, I’d prefer fewer people knowing about this incident.”
Luo Guozhong was slightly taken aback, then seemed to realize something and nodded quickly, “Mr. Ye, don’t worry, I’ll handle it properly.”
He glanced at Xie Liping, nearly paralyzed beside the Mercedes, and asked, “About this Xie Liping, Mr. Ye, would you prefer…?”
Ye Fan said, “Just follow the legal procedures.”
Luo Guozhong responded, hesitated for a moment, then as if summoning courage, asked, “Mr. Ye, I’ve heard of certain people who practice a special martial art, are you…”
Before Luo Guozhong could finish, Ye Fan interrupted him directly, “I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave. I’ll leave this matter in your capable hands, Director Luo.”
“Of course, of course,” Luo Guozhong nodded quickly, “Mr. Ye, since your car is damaged, please take mine. I’ll have Little Zhang drive you.”
Ye Fan nodded and got into the Wrangler with Shen Yan.
Once the Wrangler drove away, Luo Guozhong squatted beside Xie Liping, pinching his nose, and compared his fist to the punch mark, after a long time, he sighed, “Is this even human?”
The Wrangler went past the police tape, all the officers around watched respectfully.
In the car, Shen Yan was full of doubts, like a cat scratching at her insides, but with Little Zhang driving, she could only keep these doubts to herself.
Ye Fan first took Shen Yan home, then returned to the Dingsheng International Hotel, drank the tonic soup pre-prepared by the hotel, freshened up, practiced the Rising Dragon Stance to absorb the medicine’s energy, and fell asleep.
