Chapter 817: Chapter 813: Taking Action

As noon approached, Ye Fan finished his work and, having nothing else to do, left the office to have lunch in the cafeteria.

Originally, as a head of division at the bureau, he had a separate dining room and a chef to cook special meals for him. However, the county recently held a meeting emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean governance and not engaging in special privileges. So, in the police department, Zhao Lina led by example, eating the common meal. With the top leader doing so, the other leaders naturally couldn’t have special meals separately anymore.

Ye Fan took a plate of rice and three dishes, randomly found a table, and started eating. After a moment, the off-duty time arrived, and employees gradually came over, making the cafeteria lively.

Seeing Xu Xiangli holding a plate and searching for a seat, Ye Fan waved to her, beckoning her over.

“Leader,” Xu Xiangli came over.

“There’s a seat here, you can sit down.”

After sitting down, Xu Xiangli used tissue paper to wipe the sweat off her face. Her uniform was soaked with sweat, clinging translucent to her skin. Seeing Ye Fan looking over, she said embarrassedly, “I rushed back and didn’t have time to change clothes.”

Ye Fan asked, “Were you on an assignment outside?”

“Yes,” Xu Xiangli nodded, “There was a fight among vendors in the West City marketplace, it was a big deal, so I took Miao Jian to handle it, and only just got back.”

“Isn’t that area in Wang Xianzhong’s jurisdiction?” Ye Fan asked in confusion.

“Wang Xianzhong wasn’t in the office when it happened, and I couldn’t reach him,” Xu Xiangli said, visibly displeased.

Ye Fan pondered for a moment and said, “He won’t last for many more days.”

“Oh?” Xu Xiangli got excited, “Leader, are you finally going to deal with him?”

Ye Fan didn’t take Wang Xianzhong, Fan Feipeng, and the likes seriously at all, but as long as he was in the police department of Mingde County, it was difficult to avoid these two. They were like two buzzing flies, annoying and disgusting.

Ye Fan nodded.

“Leader, you’ve finally figured it out!” Xu Xiangli said, then reminded, “But what reason do you plan to use? Wang Xianzhong has been managing the security team for years and has several security officers following him. If they act out of desperation…”

At that moment, Miao Jian came and sat next to Xu Xiangli. She quickly shut her mouth, but Miao Jian picked up the conversation, “Wang Xianzhong isn’t clean. He’s abused his power for personal gain over the years, taking quite a few benefits. We can start from there.”

Ye Fan asked, “Do we have evidence?”

Miao Jian nodded, “Not much yet, but we should be able to find some.”

“Xiangli, Miao Jian, I’ll leave this matter to the two of you,” Ye Fan said, “If you can find solid evidence, it would prevent unrest in the security team.”

Half an hour later, Miao Jian left the cafeteria, returned to the office, and woke up two security officers napping at their desks. The three of them then drove out from the security team.

In a system where hierarchical ranking is a key factor, aligning with the right faction ensures a smooth career, while the wrong alignment often leads to ruin. Clearly, Wang Xianzhong had chosen the wrong side.

In the afternoon, Ye Fan arrived outside Zhao Lina’s office and knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Zhao Lina said, lifting her head from a pile of documents. Seeing it was Ye Fan, she was momentarily startled and asked, “Is something the matter?”

“Yes, it’s work-related,” Ye Fan said, noticing Zhao Lina’s cup was empty. He casually filled it with hot water from the dispenser, and as he handed it over, their fingers inadvertently touched before quickly parting.

“Thank you.” Zhao Lina held the cup, took a gentle sip, and slightly raised her tired eyes, meeting Ye Fan’s gaze head-on. She didn’t look away, just met his eyes.

For a long moment, they said nothing.

After quite some time, Zhao Lina finally said, “Didn’t you say it was work-related? What’s up?”

Ye Fan suddenly said, “You don’t have to work so hard.”

Zhao Lina was slightly taken aback, then smiled without saying much.

She knew Ye Fan wouldn’t divorce Li Zhaojun, so this man before her was no longer the right match. The closer they got, the more wrong it would be. That’s why these days, she deliberately avoided Ye Fan, focusing entirely on her work. Only by doing so could she prevent herself from fantasizing about a future that could never exist.

Ye Fan sighed inwardly and said, “Here’s the thing, I’m planning to dismiss Wang Xianzhong.”

Zhao Lina responded absentmindedly, “You’re in charge of the security team now, so handle it as you see fit.”

“After dismissing Wang Xianzhong, it’ll be Fan Feipeng’s turn,” Ye Fan continued, “He’s the head of the criminal investigation team, which I haven’t taken over yet, so I’ll need your cooperation.”

Zhao Lina thought for a moment and nodded, “Alright. Fan Feipeng doesn’t get along with you, and once you take over the criminal investigation team in the future, he probably won’t settle down. Go ahead with what you need to do, and I’ll coordinate from my end.”

Ye Fan responded softly, and they fell silent again, the atmosphere briefly oppressive and awkward. They remained in a standoff for a while until Ye Fan finally got up to leave.

After the office door closed, Zhao Lina stared blankly at the cup in her hand.

There’s probably no way to go back, she thought to herself.

The arrow is shot without turning back; there was no returning for Ye Fan and Zhao Lina, and no returning for Wang Xianzhong either. Of course, he didn’t want to go back, just raced his car, speeding all the way to the city.

On the front passenger seat was a briefcase containing the material and documents given to him by Xie Liping about Ye Fan, along with the whistleblower letter he wrote that morning.

Having experienced Ye Fan’s methods, Wang Xianzhong knew that even with evidence, he couldn’t confidently take down Ye Fan within Mingde County. So after much thought, he decided to blow this matter up to the city level directly. Wearing nothing on his feet, he feared nothing, so he might as well make a big scene!

Driving all the way to the city, he arrived directly at the entrance of the City Supervision Bureau Complaint Center. Feeling both nervous and excited, he entered the complaint center. After stating his purpose, a young staff member with black-rimmed glasses led him to an office.

“Here, comrade, have some water.” The staff member poured a disposable cup of water for him and sat down in front of him.

Wang Xianzhong drank the water in one gulp, wiped his mouth, and placed the briefcase on the table. “Leader, I’ve come to report!”

“I’m no leader,” the staff member smiled, taking out a paper and pen, “Please introduce yourself first.”

“My name is Wang Xianzhong, I’m the deputy captain of the security team in Mingde County,” Wang said, “and I’ve come to report the political committee member of our police department, Ye Fan. I’ve brought both the materials and the whistleblower letter, they’re right here.”
