Chapter 800: Chapter 796: Rejecting Temptation

Mo Xiaoyan remained indifferent to Xie Liping’s attentive efforts.

It wasn’t until the waiter brought in two glasses of clear water that Mo Xiaoyan showed any sign of reaction. She didn’t drink the water, instead interrupting Xie Liping’s flattery, and said directly, “Let’s talk about the main issue.”

Xie Liping chuckled without embarrassment and replied, “Recently, I had your cosmetics project professionally evaluated again, and the results showed that the success rate is only about thirty-one percent. Moreover, if it fails, all investment will be lost. Additionally, as time passes, the likelihood of success diminishes.”

Mo Xiaoyan’s pretty face remained calm, and she didn’t speak. Of course, she knew her project’s success rate was quite low, which is why other potential investors had set very harsh conditions.

“My dad really opposes investing in your project. After all, money doesn’t grow on trees, especially not a sum as large as three hundred million,” Xie Liping continued.

An involuntary fist formed under the table with Mo Xiaoyan’s jade hands. She was well aware that Xie Liping himself didn’t have three hundred million; that money would definitely come from his father’s corporate funds. In other words, even if Xie Liping were foolish enough to invest equally without any conditions, it wouldn’t be possible without his father’s consent.

“However, I still managed to persuade my dad, because of you,” Xie Liping added.

Upon hearing this, Mo Xiaoyan’s brows furrowed slightly.

“Don’t be so quick to dislike it,” Xie Liping said immediately upon noticing the change in Mo Xiaoyan’s expression, gesturing with his hands for her to hold on.

Mo Xiaoyan suppressed the urge to get up and leave.

“I admit, I do like you, and I wanted to get close to you, which is why I invested in your project,” Xie Liping admitted. “Investing three hundred million in a project with less than a one in three chance of success without expecting huge profits, just to get close to you—isn’t this a clear indication of my sincerity?”

“My demands are few. Apart from what’s written in the contract, I only hope to be in frequent contact and to meet with you.”

Having finished, Xie Liping looked at Mo Xiaoyan with a face full of sincerity.

Internally, he was thinking: once you make a small opening, during the process of further investment, urgent demands could be introduced gradually, eventually leading to success.

Mo Xiaoyan suddenly offered a faint smile, shook her head at Xie Liping, and said, “Your sincerity is really cheap.”

Xie Liping’s face stiffened.

“I’ve decided to remove you from my list of potential investors and won’t contact you anymore.” After finishing her statement, Mo Xiaoyan stood up, regardless of Xie Liping’s reaction, and strode away.

Xie Liping followed, calling out after Mo Xiaoyan.

But Mo Xiaoyan, with steps as quick and fluid as a roaming dragon, had already reached the entrance of the casual café, and then, like a shadow, she disappeared, leaving Xie Liping unable to catch up.

Having refused Xie Liping’s enticement, Mo Xiaoyan felt a sense of relief.

She was not so easily tempted. Three hundred million for a stake in a project—did that kind of money entitle him to demand regular contact and meetings? As the designated granddaughter of the Mo family who presided over the greater southwestern region, would she really be tempted by a mere three hundred million in funds?

Moreover, was she unaware of Xie Liping’s ulterior motives to increase his demands bit by bit?

Worst comes to worst, she could always return to Chongqing for a few days, act coquettishly with her parents and grandfather, and ask for another three hundred million in funds.

Around four in the afternoon, Mo Xiaoyan drove to Hua Yang martial arts school, asked Shi Sheng to clear out a training room, and began practicing ancient martial arts.

At six in the evening, Mo Xiaoyan ceased her training, took a shower, changed her clothes, and went out for dinner with Lu Xiaoman.

While dining, Mo Xiaoyan mentioned a trip back to Chongqing in a few days.

Catching wind of this, Lu Xiaoman seemed surprised and asked, “Didn’t you say you were overwhelmed with company work? Why are you thinking of going to Chongqing all of a sudden?”

“I’m going back to coax some money out of them,” Mo Xiaoyan didn’t shy away from her intentions.

Lu Xiaoman, already aware of Mo Xiaoyan’s financial shortfall, frowned slightly and said, “But Mom and Dad don’t have that amount of money. Didn’t you already ask them?”

“I’ll ask Grandpa,” said Mo Xiaoyan.

Lu Xiaoman’s frown deepened, expressing disapproval, “Sister, I think if you want to make it on your own, you should try not to rely on Grandpa’s support. Otherwise, he’ll have even more right to pressure you into an arranged marriage. I’ll think of another way to help you.”

She was still resentful about their grandfather’s insistence on arranged marriage last year and didn’t even consider him her real grandfather.

“You’ll think of another way? Sister, stop joking. How many wealthy friends do you have?” Mo Xiaoyan laughed and shook her head. “Never mind, I won’t go back and ask Grandpa for money then. I’ll figure something else out.”

“Let’s not talk about bothersome things now; we’ve finally come out to enjoy a meal together,” Mo Xiaoyan added.

Afterward, the sisters chatted on other topics for a while.

Ten minutes later, Lu Xiaoman excused herself to the restroom.

However, Lu Xiaoman didn’t actually enter the restroom but instead stepped aside and called Ye Fan from beside the window.

Ye Fan was en route to Hua Hai City when he received Lu Xiaoman’s call.

“What’s up? Xiaoman,” Ye Fan asked while driving, answering the call.

“Ye Fan, I need to ask for your help with something,” Lu Xiaoman got straight to the point.

“Haha, no need to be formal with me, just say it,” Ye Fan laughed, “But you do sound pretty serious.”

Lu Xiaoman explained the situation about Mo Xiaoyan’s three hundred million funding shortfall, then said, “Ye Fan, could you help Xiaoyan out?”

“I heard about Xiaoyan’s funding issue yesterday. I thought she had already secured an investment,” said Ye Fan. “Don’t worry, I know what to do.”

“Thank you, Ye Fan,” Lu Xiaoman spoke gladly.

“What are you thanking me for? Actually, I have high hopes for Xiaoyan’s cosmetics project.”

After ending the call, Lu Xiaoman returned to the dining table, and they continued their meal.

After the meal, Lu Xiaoman accompanied Mo Xiaoyan to the mall.

Mo Xiaoyan was in a sour mood, resulting in her splurging a hefty sum of over a hundred thousand yuan at the mall.

Ye Fan arrived in Hua Hai City at eight in the evening, but instead of going to the Yu Lin Bay villa complex, he checked into a standard room at Dingsheng International Hotel.

Li Zhaojun was in a state of aloof detachment, unable to resonate with Ye Fan as in the past, so he avoided visiting and feeling miserable there.

After dinner and a bath, with a bit of rest and catching up on the news, it was past ten-thirty.

He remembered Lu Xiaoman’s request to help Mo Xiaoyan, so he picked up his phone to call her.

After the phone connected, Mo Xiaoyan’s laughter came through, “Hehe, stinky brother-in-law, calling someone so late, you must be missing me?”

“…” Ye Fan was speechless.

“Giggle, if you don’t speak, you’re admitting it,” Mo Xiaoyan teased again.

Ye Fan sighed and asked, “Xiaoyan, are you driving?”

“Yeah,” Mo Xiaoyan chuckled, “You have sharp ears.”

Ye Fan said, “It’s not convenient to discuss matters while you’re driving. Let’s talk when you get home.”

“What’s the matter? We’re already on the call, just go ahead and say it,” Mo Xiaoyan said, “Come on, tell me.”
