Chapter 741: Chapter 737: Return to Dragon Group

It was past 11:30 PM when Shangguan Wuqiu finally arrived home.

Ye Fan only escorted Shangguan Wuqiu to the entrance of her apartment building and did not accompany her upstairs.

As soon as Shangguan Wuqiu unlocked her front door, lights from the living room spilled out, indicating that her daughter had not yet gone to bed.

Feeling a bit guilty, she took a deep breath, quickly checking herself over to ensure Cui Wenwen wouldn’t notice anything amiss, then entered.

“Mom, you’re back,” Cui Wenwen paused her TV watching and immediately turned to greet her.

Shangguan Wuqiu smiled and nodded, asking, “Why haven’t you gone to bed?”

“You hadn’t come home; I couldn’t sleep,” Cui Wenwen responded, wrapping her arms around Shangguan Wuqiu’s arm and pulling her to the sofa to sit.

Once seated on the sofa, Cui Wenwen asked, “Mom, did you enjoy your night out?”

“It was alright. Just a bit tired.” Shangguan Wuqiu replied. She indeed was not just a little tired; she had been moving around almost on her own.

Cui Wenwen noticed the fatigue on Shangguan Wuqiu’s face and said, “You’ve been out all night, how could you not be tired? Hehe, Mom, in the future, I’ll ask my cousin to accompany you more, alright?”

“That won’t do. It’s already not easy for him to accompany me for an entire night,” Shangguan Wuqiu said.

Cui Wenwen coquettishly said, “But I don’t want you to be cooped up at home all the time. If only I were a boy, then I could protect you while you shop.”

The mother and daughter chatted for a while, and Cui Wenwen clearly felt her mother’s spirits uplift considerably. She secretly decided to ask Ye Fan to accompany her mother more in the future.

Ye Fan had been paying close attention to the series of changes within the Mingde County Government after Miao Dongzheng was transferred, hoping to find a suitable vacancy for himself.

However, at nine o’clock Thursday morning, his plans were disrupted.

“Ye Fan, there is a very, very important mission for you from the Dragon Group,” a superior said over the phone. “I hope you can depart immediately for the African Dragon Group base. This is both an order and a request.”

Upon hearing this, Ye Fan’s blood, dormant for months, instantly boiled, and he stood at attention, “Please rest assured, Chief, alive I belong to the Dragon Group, deceased I am the Dragon Group’s soul!”

After hanging up, Ye Fan quickly wrote a leave request and strode towards Zhao Lina’s office.

He knocked and entered Zhao Lina’s office, approached her desk, and directly said, “Director Zhao, I have an urgent mission and need to take some leave.”

“What? Leave for some days?” Zhao Lina was stunned upon hearing this. Was this a way to ask for leave?

Ye Fan seriously said, “Yes. Here is the request form.”

With that, he placed the leave request on the desk in front of Zhao Lina.

Zhao Lina didn’t immediately look at the request, her brows furrowed as she asked, “What exactly is your urgent mission?”

“It’s a matter of national security; I can’t tell you,” Ye Fan replied.

Zhao Lina then remembered that Ye Fan’s identity was special and his file highly confidential.

Picking up the leave request, she glanced at it, noticing the reason written was health issues.

“Director Ye, I approve your leave, but how long will you be gone? Give me an estimate,” Zhao Lina looked up at Ye Fan.

Ye Fan thought briefly and replied, “At least a week, or it could be over a month.”

Zhao Lina took a deep breath and said, “I don’t have the authority for that.”

“Report it upwards, someone will handle it,” Ye Fan said.

Zhao Lina acknowledged with a “Granted.”

Ye Fan thanked her and turned to leave.

As he reached the door, Zhao Lina suddenly called out, “Ye Fan!”

He stopped, turned around, and saw Zhao Lina standing up.

“Be careful,” Zhao Lina said softly.

Ye Fan nodded, “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Ye Fan drove out of the police station, directly left the city area, and took the expressway towards Hua Hai City.

After getting on the highway, Ye Fan called Wei Ziling to let her know she could go home and rest.

Driving to Hua Hai City, Ye Fan headed straight to the airport.

The next morning, Ye Fan arrived by plane in Dar es Salaam.

Just off the plane, a military jeep immediately picked up Ye Fan and went straight to the Dragon Group’s base in Africa.

“Boss, you’re finally back! Everyone’s been missing you like crazy!” Inside the military vehicle, Leopard, who had just been recommended by Ye Fan to be the new leader of the Dragon Group, exclaimed excitedly.

Ye Fan laughed and said, “Haha, I missed everyone too. How’s everyone been?”

“Everyone’s good, but without you, boss, it always feels like something’s missing,” Leopard replied.

Ye Fan slapped Leopard on the head and playfully scolded, “Brown-noser!”

Then, he turned to Mo Shang, who was driving in front, and asked, “How about you, Mo Shang?”

“All is well,” Mo Shang replied, slightly excited. Dressed in a mini military uniform, her short hair not reaching her shoulders, her face stern.

“Good,” Ye Fan said.

Finally reaching the Dragon Group’s African base, from the moment he entered the gate, Ye Fan felt his heart beating faster, his whole body excited.

Indeed, the most important years of his life had been spent here, a place that haunted his dreams for a lifetime. How could he not be thrilled to be back?

In the base’s parade ground, the car screeched to a stop, the tires rubbing against the concrete to leave two dark streaks before coming to a halt.

Opening the car door, Ye Fan stepped out, his big foot hitting the ground, and immediately a deafening, overwhelming roar of cheers came.

“Welcome back, boss!”

Ye Fan looked around and saw the neatly organized ranks of brothers on the parade ground, and could not help but cry out with tears in his eyes, “Brothers, I’m back!”

“Welcome back, boss!”

The brothers of the Dragon Group shouted again with excitement.

“Brothers, I’m back!”

Ye Fan shouted again, loudly.

“Welcome back, boss!”

“Brothers, I’m back!”

Seventeen or eighteen minutes later, Ye Fan, now calm, sat in the operation command room and asked Leopard, “What important missions has the Dragon Group received?”

Leopard turned to Mo Shang next to him and said, “Mo Shang, why don’t you report to the boss?”

“Of course,” Mo Shang responded, her voice as cold as metal.

As Dragon Group’s intelligence officer and chief hacker, she was the most suited to brief Ye Fan.

She quickly operated the keyboard, and a large LCD screen on the wall immediately showed a map of Africa with several red dots.

“Boss, I don’t know if you’ve heard while in China about the Ebola virus outbreak in Africa?” Mo Shang asked.

Ye Fan nodded and said, “I’ve been following it. The Ebola outbreak started in West Africa and ravaged countries like Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal; the situation was extremely severe, with officially reported deaths over seven thousand by the end. China, in a spirit of humanitarianism, sent many brave volunteers and extensive donations to help African countries control the outbreak, which finally ended late last year.”

“Is the assignment we received related to the Ebola virus outbreak?” he continued asking.

Mo Shang nodded and said, “Exactly. Recently, our national medical scientists discovered that the Ebola virus is not a natural occurrence but a synthetically produced virus!”
