Chapter 190: Chapter 190: [Extra] What Kind Do You Like?
Months flew by in a blur, and Xinan gave birth to a chubby little boy. As a good best friend, Jiang Yurou naturally went to visit.
Despite the fact that Jiang Yurou had nearly spent all her money during this period, she still went to the jewelry store to buy a bracelet for the baby.
Of course, a bracelet was nothing for the wealthy Cheng Family, but Xinan and Cheng Yi did not show the slightest disdain and happily accepted Jiang Yurou’s kindness.
On the day she went to visit Xinan, Jiang Yurou had another argument with Tan Bo, but they quickly made up.
Jiang Yurou knew that as long as she lowered her head a little, no matter what mistake she made, Tan Bo would forgive her.
She couldn’t understand why Tan Bo was so opposed to her being with Zhou Ming. Was it simply because he had no money?
Jiang Yurou had never dared to ask Tan Bo this question.
-
After leaving the hospital that day, Tan Bo was called home by Mrs. Tan.
"Xiao Bo, have you been a bit distracted lately?" Mrs. Tan asked, sitting on the sofa.
Tan Bo was stunned by the question and then shook his head. "No, I’ve been really good lately. I’ve just closed another big deal."
Mrs. Tan sighed deeply and said earnestly, "Xiao Bo, our family already has plenty of money. You can’t put all your energy into your career. You should spend some of your free time dating, you know. Look at Ah Yi, he already has a son, and you don’t even have a girl by your side. How can I not be worried?"
Early that morning, Mrs. Tan had received news that Xinan had given the Cheng Family a chubby little boy, and she was so envious she had hurriedly called Tan Bo back home.
Tan Bo looked at his mother with a helpless expression. He knew that if it wasn’t something important, his mother wouldn’t call him back so easily.
"Mom, I want to date too, but I just haven’t met the right person yet..."
Hearing that Tan Bo wanted to date, Mrs. Tan’s eyes lit up, and she said, "That’s no problem. Tell mom what kind of girl you like, and I’ll help you look for one."
Tan Bo immediately showed an awkward expression. Could he refuse to answer? Obviously not, so he simply said, "Pretty, not too boring, preferably lively and interesting, kind-hearted, with medium to long hair..."
Looking at her son getting more animated as he spoke, Mrs. Tan didn’t expose him and instead said, "I think I actually do know someone who meets your criteria."
"Who?" Tan Bo asked unnaturally.
Mrs. Tan smiled and said, "Rourou."
A bitter smile appeared on Tan Bo’s face. Jiang Yurou certainly met his criteria because the person he described was her.
Mrs. Tan didn’t notice anything off about her son and continued, "Xiao Bo, I really think Rourou is a good choice, and you two have grown up together since childhood. You definitely have a strong bond. If you think it’s possible, I’ll go tomorrow... I’ll go today with your father to the Jiang Family to ask for her hand in marriage."
The news of Cheng Yi having a child was too much of a stimulus for Mrs. Tan. She now desperately wished for Tan Bo to get married and give her a grandson or granddaughter.
"Mom!" Tan Bo called out with a pained expression.
"What? You’re not happy?" Mrs. Tan asked.
How could he not be happy? But Jiang Yurou simply didn’t like him!
Tan Bo sighed. "It’s not that. It’s just that I prefer to make my own decisions regarding marriage."
Seeing Tan Bo struggle, Mrs. Tan guessed a bit of the truth. Since it wasn’t that he was unwilling, it must be Rourou who was unwilling. So she reminded him, "Xiao Bo, that girl from the Jiang Family is someone I’ve watched grow up. She’s beautiful and kind-hearted. Don’t miss out on her!"
"I know, mom. I’m aware of what’s in my heart."
After speaking, Tan Bo got up and went upstairs. Mrs. Tan watched his retreating figure with a pang of heartache, knowing her son’s thoughts inside and out.
Years ago, when the girl from the Jiang Family silently went abroad, Tan Bo pretended to be indifferent on the surface but in secret, he flew overseas multiple times by himself.
Over the years, Tan Bo hadn’t found a girlfriend, presumably for that girl’s sake.
Mrs. Tan knew her son was always stubborn. Perhaps Jiang Yurou didn’t know about his solitary journeys between home and abroad, and even if she did, with Tan Bo’s character, he would likely find other excuses to pass it off.
As a mother, of course, she didn’t want her son to devote so much effort only to end up with nothing. So after talking with Tan Bo, she still made a trip to the Jiang Family.
To fight for a chance for her son...
Back in the bedroom, Tan Bo lay down on the bed without even taking off his coat, his mind full of the conversation he just had with his mother.
Indeed, with the connections between the Tan and Jiang families, if his parents stepped in, the Jiang Family would never reject the marriage proposal.
If he wanted, Jiang Yurou could never marry someone else, at least in name.
But was this really what he wanted?
Could a marriage without love really last?
Tan Bo buried his face into the pillow, trying to hold back, but he didn’t understand why he felt so irritable deep down, as if something was pressing on his chest, suffocating.
Over the years, he had never worried that Jiang Yurou would fall in love with someone else. From childhood, no other man but him ever appeared by her side. Even during the years she was abroad, he had silently watched over her, thinking that as long as he was the only one by her side, one day she would love him.
But everything was shattered the moment Zhou Ming appeared. Jiang Yurou fell for someone else, and not for Tan Bo.
Initially, when Jiang Yurou told him she liked someone, he didn’t take it seriously because subconsciously, he always believed Jiang Yurou could not possibly fall for someone else. If she did, it was just a fleeting impulse and would pass in time.
What he didn’t expect was that Jiang Yurou would argue with him for that man, even cook and clean for him.
It was only when he saw Jiang Yurou busy in the kitchen that Tan Bo finally realised she was never joking; she had truly fallen for that penniless young man.
No one knew how much Tan Bo regretted at this moment. If he hadn’t been so arrogant, if he hadn’t let Jiang Yurou go to Zhou Ming, would the outcome have been different?
If only he had been a little braver back then, would it still be in time to go to Jiang Yurou now?
All that replied to him was infinite silence and depth...
Inside the blanket, a few crystal tears traced down Tan Bo’s cheeks.
