Chapter 114: Chapter 114: It Likes You Very Much

"I am not, where would I be shy, you are the one who’s shy!" Xinan blurted out in a moment of panic.

"How come you still won’t admit it? It’s not like we haven’t seen each other before," Cheng Yi said with a feigned expression of surprise, but he was actually snickering.

"Cheng Yi!" Xinan said through gritted teeth, clearly infuriated.

"Okay, okay, I’ll stop, I’ll stop," Cheng Yi hurriedly responded.

But looking at Xinan’s puffed-up angry appearance, he really wanted to "bully" her a bit more, yet he truly couldn’t bring himself to do it.

"Leave now, I’m going to sleep," Xinan started to shoo him away.

"Don’t forget to drink the milk, otherwise it will get cold later," Cheng Yi reminded.

"I know."

Cheng Yi smiled, shook his head, and tucked Xinan in before finally leaving the room.

Xinan ducked her head under the covers and only pulled the blanket to her neck after hearing the door close.

That annoying Cheng Yi! He had to come in at that exact moment.

She felt utterly embarrassed!

Xinan got up, threw on her nightgown haphazardly, and was just about to crawl back under her covers when she caught sight of the milk on the bedside table.

Cheng Yi’s words as he was leaving echoed in her ears. She pulled up the corners of her mouth, picked up the cup, and drank all the milk in one go.

Just like Cheng Yi had said, the milk was warm, not hot or scalding, and would have indeed become cold if it had been left out any longer.

Turning off the lights, Xinan’s previous sleepiness had vanished the moment Cheng Yi entered the room.

The more she thought about what had happened, the faster her heart beat, and her face grew hot, so she didn’t manage to fall asleep until after 2 a.m.

The next morning, while Xinan was still deep in sleep, she was suddenly awakened by the sound of a dog barking, loud and close, as if just outside her window.

"Woof woof woof..."

Having not slept well the night before, Xinan finally lost her temper and grumbled, "What’s with the barking!"

Irritated, she sat up, threw off her blanket, and decided to investigate.

But when she went to the French windows and pulled back the curtains, she was stunned by the scene before her.

A garden filled with roses swaying in the wind, like a mandala sea, breathtakingly beautiful.

"This..."

Xinan couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Last night, she and Cheng Yi had only strolled around the front of the mansion. Because it was dark, they hadn’t ventured here, and she hadn’t expected to find a sea of flowers.

Beautiful!

It was just so beautiful!

Looking down, she indeed saw Cheng Yi, dressed in a white tracksuit, playing with a dog with a black-patterned orange ball in his hand.

The scene was warm and harmonious.

Feeling Xinan’s gaze upon him, Cheng Yi suddenly looked up, their eyes met.

He flashed a slight smile and waved at her, signaling her to come down.

Not sure what Cheng Yi was up to, Xinan actually changed her clothes and went downstairs.

Seeing Cheng Yi continuing to play with the dog, Xinan walked over and couldn’t help asking, "Where did this dog come from?"

She hadn’t seen it the night before.

Cheng Yi fed the dog a sausage and replied, "It was a stray before. Uncle Zhang took pity on it and adopted it."

"Oh, what’s its name?"

"Sanfu."

Xinan bent down and called, "Sanfu?"

Sanfu heard Xinan call its name, its tail wagging nonstop. It even abandoned the ham sausage and ran over to Xinan, circling around her several times.

Xinan’s eyes lit up, looking towards Cheng Yi, "Can I pet it?"

Cheng Yi said, "You can."

After getting a response, Xinan reached out a hand to pet Sanfu’s head. The soft sensation came from her fingertips as Sanfu gently rubbed her palm, eventually rolling over on its back, inviting Xinan to stroke its belly.

Xinan was in a great mood and couldn’t help but pet it a few extra times.

Seeing this, Cheng Yi commented with a smile, "It really likes you."

"Really?" Xinan, who had never kept pets before, didn’t understand that a dog exposing its belly for her to pet was a sign of affection and trust.

Cheng Yi nodded, "Really."

Xinan petted Sanfu’s head, and the little guy looked up at her with big eyes, appearing very well-behaved.

"Sanfu, you’re so cute."

The little dog wagged its tail.

After playing with it for a while longer, Xinan told it to go play on its own.

As she turned around, Cheng Yi was gazing at her, "What’s wrong?"

"Why are your dark circles so severe?"

Xinan pursed her lips, thinking, aren’t you well aware of why my dark circles are so severe?

He added, "Did you not sleep well last night?"

Xinan murmured an indifferent "Hmm" before changing the subject, "Did Uncle Zhang plant these roses in the back garden?"

"No, I did," Cheng Yi said. "I planted them for you."

Xinan was taken aback and looked at Cheng Yi, "For me? You never mentioned that before."

Cheng Yi saw the confusion in her eyes and said with a smile, "Originally, I wanted to surprise you on your birthday, but then, you know, we got divorced... so there was never an opportunity to bring you here to see them."

Mention of the divorce seemed to cast a shadow over both of their moods, and the atmosphere around them grew strangely tense.

Xinan paused, then said, "The roses are beautiful, I really like them."

"Since you like them, how about I bring you here often to see them, okay?"

"Okay."

Since Cheng Yi brought her here, he had given her so many surprises, so... how much more did he have that she didn’t know about?

They stayed in the manor for another two days before driving back on Monday morning.

Having grown accustomed to the quiet atmosphere of the manor, Xinan felt somewhat out of place upon returning to the noisy cityscape.

As soon as she arrived back at her apartment, before Xinan even had a chance to drink some water, Li Hongya called to ask her when she’d sign the contract.

Not wanting to drag this matter out any longer, Xinan left her apartment again after putting down her things and went to Tianwen Entertainment.

When it came time to sign, Xinan broached the conditions she had discussed with Li Hongya that day, insisting on selecting the second female lead.

She recommended Yang Shuyu.

The reason was simple: Yang Shuyu had been the first person brave enough to speak up for her when she was being condemned by everyone.

Moreover, because of that incident, Yang’s own career suffered greatly, almost reaching a state of being semi-blacklisted. Xinan had always felt very guilty about it.

Even though they had had many unpleasant encounters in the past, Xinan was now willing to let bygones be bygones.

Li Hongya was a straightforward person and immediately accepted Xinan’s proposal without any objections. He was familiar with Yang Shuyu—who had acted in "Mist." Though her looks were somewhat enchanting, her acting skills were not bad at all.

Because Xinan was under financial pressure lately, as soon as the contract was signed, Li Hongya had finance transfer the remuneration to Xinan’s account.

"President Li, thank you," Xinan sincerely appreciated Li Hongya’s help.

Li Hongya smiled, "No need to be polite. You’ve also done me a big favor, allowing me to see ’Butterfly’s Past’ made into a movie within my lifetime."

Without Xinan’s emergence, he might never have found such a suitable Female Lead in his life, nor would he have invested to turn "Butterfly’s Past" into a film.
