Insect Tamer's Ascension -
Chapter 154 - 154: When a tamed beast dies
"While they were still falling from quite a height, soon, a light came out of the knight's forehead and it went up in trajectory while they were falling.
While Theo was still lost in the beauty and the weird feeling of falling from such a height, a big shadow formed over him.
When he tried looking up, the silhouette that made such a big shadow glided swiftly near him before it was already below them.
THUD
"KUGH!" Theo fell body first on the wyvern's scaly body and felt a pain in his abdomen. Rhys, on the other hand, landed gracefully on the wyvern's back and already sat with crisscrossed legs as if it was the most normal thing to do.
Before Theo could sit properly, he quickly had to hold onto the scales on the wyvern's back so as to not fall.
The wyvern kept gliding down and that was when Theo saw a glimpse of a big ape on the top of the tree with a human latched onto it before he had to close his eyes due to the air pressure.
Suddenly, the wyvern moved its wings up and down aggressively only to get up high instantly.
Theo just clung onto his dear life with as much grip as he could.
Aside from the wyvern and Rhys, nobody else noticed the falcon moving around them at a safe distance with its eyes glowing.
Down in the forest, the leader of the group had a stern expression. His eyes were glowing the same color as his falcon.
"…A Merrick Knight…" he stated slowly with a heavy tone.
All the others looked at the leader with widened eyes. It was only the girl who still had a playful smile on her face.
"AHHH I finally have some juicy stuff to talk about with master now, I can't wait to go back~" the girl spoke, and everyone just looked at the boar in the front.
The boar was on the ground with its stomach huffing up and down in a panicked manner. There were huge amounts of foam coming out of its mouth.
"Let's take this back and report to the contractor. We have a scapegoat to put this on now," the leader spoke and looked at the big guy one time before he started moving toward the boar while still dragging the big cage behind him.
When he was finally near, the big man just smacked the cage door open, placed both his hands around the big boar's body before picking it up as if it was just some light weights, and threw it inside the cage before closing the gate.
Just as quickly the group approached the clearing, they left at the same pace with a caged beast with them this time.
Meanwhile, Theo was now a lot more stable on the wyvern's back.
"Was it really necessary to take Elias and the ape this way?" Theo asked Rhys loudly while the wind blew past them aggressively.
Right now, Elias and the ape were gripped around the wyvern's feet and were carried as if they were the game it had procured to eat back in its nest.
Theo felt guilt about it, but some of it felt amusing.
"That ape was slower than I thought, so I had no choice," Rhys spoke sleepily. All the wind on his face had made him feel so good that his eyes looked like they would close anytime now.
Theo nodded. They were silent for a while, his mind diverting to places that were irking him.
No matter what, it was very weird—whenever he went to the forest or did something like this, he faced challenges that were beyond normal.
Even now, the group that entered was coming right toward the level 7 beast he had awaited to fight against all this time.
Not only did he lose his chance to go all out, but he also had to flee from there as if he was the thief.
"I can't believe they took our boar from us…" Theo said while grumbling. It was something he had just muttered for himself, yet Rhys's hearing said otherwise.
"You were not going to defeat it, young master. Whether you got it or not doesn't matter," he said out loud, making Theo look at him.
"But… am I not a Merrick? Why did I have to run away at the face of danger like that?"
Rhys's sleepy face became a lot sleepier, yet in the end, before he was going to sleep, he looked at Theo and stated, "You being a Merrick or not didn't matter right now, young master. You are just an 8-year-old child going to places that should be far beyond your reach…" he explained.
Theo felt a bad taste in his mouth and he rebuked, only to see that Rhys had slept with his mouth open, letting all the wind go in it. His legs were still crossed and his hand was still grabbing one of the wyvern's scales as if it was a constant habit.
The travel back was quite normal until the wyvern started moving its neck back while moving forward.
Theo was confused until he looked back too. In the whole expanse of the sky above the forest, there was but one big thing he could see behind them. It was the same falcon trying to keep up with the wyvern at a safe distance.
GRRRUUUUU….
The wyvern grumbled, making Rhys open his eyes in frustration.
It was only then that he finally looked back and saw a falcon coming toward them.
"Sigh… They really are relentless," he stated while getting up slowly. He was not holding the scale anymore, and Theo was already boggled by how the man was standing against such aggressive winds that he would just fly away.
But no, Rhys was standing in a stance as if there was nothing stopping him from doing so. With a sleepy face, he took out the sword from the scabbard.
Theo couldn't hear that usual heavy 'SHING' sound from the action due to the intense winds that dried his eyes every now and then.
Without any wait, Rhys just swung his sword at a very fast pace. Theo could feel the winds breaking from that little swing—it got chaotic for a second before he quickly looked at what had happened behind.
And there it was, Theo could now see two small silhouettes at the distance where the beast was.
The falcon was cut in half, and Rhys had just yawned before sitting again and falling asleep.
