Chapter 65: Rumor
Chapter 65: Rumor
Jayden wouldn’t have wanted to fight in the first place, but the men had certainly pulled his leg. There was no way he would stay down after getting hit, and he was confident that he had done the right thing...
Paula was still completely stunned, but she didn’t say a word until they left the scene.
Jayden noticed her and smiled. He totally understood her awe, but he still felt the admiration in her look, even though he could only sense it with a faint trace.
"They attacked me first," Jayden broke the silence.
"I was there," Paula replied, her voice soft yet crackly.
Jayden gave her a look and nodded.
"Camilia? Is she your girlfriend?" Paula hesitated before asking.
She already knew about the Jayden and Camilia talks on campus, but she hadn’t really believed they were dating, unlike almost all the students... Now, after what had happened, she was curious.
She wasn’t dating Jayden, after all, which had actually stopped her from reacting when she heard Brenner and Malik call Camilia’s name.
"Uhh..." Jayden’s heart clenched for a moment.
But he figured hiding things wasn’t the best way. He actually planned to make things clear for the harem to work out.
He wasn’t lying anymore.
"Yeah, she is," he replied with a serious tone, like he was okay with it and didn’t mind what her reaction might be.
Paula, on the other hand, didn’t even act like she was pained. No, literally... It appeared like she was never pained at all.
Jayden could sense it.
All his mind could sense was her promising herself that she would be a better lady than Camilia.
"Nice. I would love to meet her someday. She’s been one of the top belles on campus. I actually like her," Paula said, letting out a soft giggle.
"Yeah, sure. You will," Jayden said, striking a sharp glance to study the tone of her reaction.
It was calm, to him... He knew his Intelligence attribute wasn’t playing tricks. Perhaps she was one of the ladies who would have completely zero jealousy urges in the harem.
Her first stay with him was straightforward and filled with fun, but Jayden never went wild. There were two days left, so he wasn’t rushing things with her, even though he’d be needing her to reach the point of absolute loyalty.
Jayden knew that wouldn’t be much of a problem with someone like her.
...
The next day started with huge news...
There in the living room, Paula had already called him over to see what was being announced on the TRUST TV news channel.
"It’s been about fourteen years since the case of Mr. Emerson Cole being accused of embezzlement. After quite a long trial in court, he was sentenced to thirty years imprisonment but died less than five years after..."
"It was stated after the autopsy that he died of cardiac arrest, and after then, the case subsided. Now, after seventeen years, his wife, Mrs. Naylah Cole, has raised the case again, suing the entire Kingsley Group and Family with a statement explaining her husband’s innocence in the embezzlement accusation, which she believes led to his death," the news reporter spoke.
Jayden stood in front of the TV, his eyes sharp as he didn’t miss any part of what was being said.
"Mrs. Naylah Cole now has the backing of the popular Vanes Family, who the city has known to be allies with the Kingsleys for years. Many are perplexed by how their alliance broke and why they have gone in support of the Coles, but there are no clear reasons at the moment."
"According to Correspondent Sarah Lane, this would be a tougher case than the former, because the Vanes backing up the Coles will surely add huge weight to the threat. TRUST TV News, Maika Tons."
As soon as the news ended, Jayden rubbed his forehead and went straight to sit.
"Your father’s case, right? It’s been quite a big talk in town for many years?" Paula said as she sat next to him.
"Yeah, that’s because it’s something that has to do with those devilish motherfuckers called the Kingsleys," Jayden replied calmly, no trace of emotion in his voice.
"You’re supporting your mom, right? That would be great if you strive to avenge your father."
Jayden flinched as he heard that and glared.
"They don’t need my support. They’re alone in this," he said with an almost nonchalant tone.
Paula narrowed her brows as her face slightly darkened.
"What do you mean, huh? It’s your father we’re talking about! Your mother is trying to avenge him and she certainly would need your help," Paula said, her tone vibrant.
She had only been this passionate when talking about her books and stories.
"Tell me, would you still forgive the woman who gave birth to you and left you for fourteen straight years without caring to ever see you? Would you still want to be with her and call her ’Mother’? Would you ever want to do anything associated with her?" Jayden asked, his tone now hot with growing rage.
It was then Paula understood why he had declined joining his mother and the Vanes.
Her jaw dropped, feeling his pain.
Jayden told her everything. Well, as the man that he was, he never tried getting too emotional...
She grasped the context after hearing everything, and for a while, she wondered what she would do if she were in his shoes.
However, it wasn’t as if Jayden was against her will to share her opinion.
"I know it’s hard, but you can still give her a second chance, even if not literally. The love could grow again. What matters most is the fact that she has to win the case and prove the whole country wrong—that your father was never guilty."
"No matter what, I know your father would still want you to forgive her," Paula said.
It was quite an itch in the ear, but Jayden found sense in that. Not that he was going to make a move, but his heart was softening.
He nodded to Paula.
"The Vanes can’t be trusted. I’ll avenge my father myself. I have my plans," Jayden muttered confidently.
"And for her...? Mrs. Naylah?" Paula stared at him with a pleading look.
"We’ll see about that..." Jayden said.
’First, I need to know how Lydia knew about my mother,’ Jayden said inwardly.
Now he was being convinced to do the direct opposite of his mind’s will.
Lydia.
Camilia.
And now Paula.
’Perhaps I might...’ he thought. ’Perhaps I might not.’
******
(NorthVille)
(Supreme High Palace)
A chubby-looking old man who was likely to be in his early 70s sat on his golden throne in the modern palace, his eyes faint as he seemed to be deep in thought.
It was the King of Nortasia... King Arthur.
In no time, a young man, the prince, walked into the chamber with a smile on his face.
"Father," he greeted, his voice highly spirited.
"Kael, you have always been happy since the day Heston Frost proposed his daughter’s marriage to you," the King said.
"Yes! I mean she’s quite beautiful, Father. Every man in Nortasia would want to have her. Plus, you said their strong alliance with us would help in the Megacity Project, right? On one hand, I’m doing this for you, Father," Kael said.
"Listen, Kael..." Arthur suddenly cut in. "Yes, their alliance would help. At one point I thought it would help enough, but I was wrong. Although that doesn’t mean you should step away from marrying her. That would only make things worse."
Kael nodded and continued listening.
"The amount needed for the Megacity Project is quite massive. Even with the Frosts and the Foleys allying with us, it wouldn’t be enough," Arthur said.
Kael’s jaw dropped.
The Frosts and the Foleys were actually two of the wealthiest and strongest families in Nortasia, at least the best ones allying with the Royal Family.
Saying that their joint wealth wouldn’t be able to complete the Megacity Project was insane, but Kael knew his father was being serious.
The Megacity Project was something he had been planning for almost a decade and had finally wanted to kickstart to lead Nortasia up the ranks in global standings, economically and socially.
It was one thing he wanted to do to ensure the continued rule of royalty, since there was already a rising rebellion in most parts of the country against kingship rule.
They wanted democracy, just like over 80% of the other countries in the world.
"So Father, what do we do?" Kael couldn’t help but ask, his eyes filled with clear concern.
Arthur hesitated for quite a moment before finally deciding to respond.
"Most of the top wealthiest men haven’t been in support of my rulership, so they wouldn’t ally. We’ve got no other choice if it goes like that. But... there is a rising rumor growing..."
"Rumor? What rumor?" Kael’s brows furrowed.
"There is a Crypto Lord who has just risen from the luck of the skyrocketing VIREX Coin. He has never been physically identified, as stated by the VIREX Management after every attempt to find his identity..." Arthur said.
"So, how do they know him then?" Kael flinched, curious.
"By a strong, powerful name..."
Arthur said and looked up at his son.
"The Dominus."
