Chapter 64: Having To Fight Again

Chapter 64: Having To Fight Again

It was a smooth eating session in the dining.

Paula was now done with talking about her writing life, and they were now romantically linked.

There a point when a morsel of the tomato sauce reached the corner of her lips, and Jayden quickly took it upon himself to whip it off...

At this point, he was trying to do whatever that would raise her affection the more.

Paula was cooperating, even higher than he had expected.

Though she felt quite nervous, that didn’t stop her other emotions. Jayden would believe that his Charm was part of it, but aside that, he also knew Paula was badly crushing on him.

Her eyes and acts could tell... It was lik she needed his touches so badly that it bites.

After their long dinner, he decided to get her the gift.

"Get ready, I’ll take you somewhere," Jayden said.

Paula didn’t waste time, and she quickly freshened up and even changed to something better. Thanks to the installed wardrobe in the house.

Just like he had done with Lynna, he took her to some wears shop and bought her clothes and jewels...

There was something he noticed her to have a liking of... A Louis Vuitton handbag worth up to $30,000. Jayden made sure to get it, to show her that he was capable of meeting her needs.

This was a good way to win her heart in a massive way, and he couldn’t afford to mess with that strategy.

After quite a while in moving from one store to the other... They were finally set to go home.

"This is too much, Jayden," Paula said for the fifth time, cheeks slightly flushed. "I feel like I’ve robbed you."

Jayden chuckled, reaching out to take some of the bags from her.

"You didn’t rob me, sweetheart. You simply allowed me to pamper you."

Paula looked away shyly, trying to suppress the growing smile on her face. For her, this was like a dream.

But then, just as they turned toward the parking lot, Jayden’s sharp eyes caught sight of two familiar figures leaning casually against a black SUV.

Brenner.

Malik.

Both men were dressed in dark casuals that barely hid the tension radiating off their bodies. The moment their eyes locked on Jayden, they straightened, like wolves spotting prey.

Jayden slowed his pace slightly, gently placing a hand on Paula’s lower back.

"Stay calm," he whispered, noticing that she had also spotted them.

As they approached the car, Brenner stepped forward first, a smirk playing on his lips. Malik followed closely, his muscular frame towering like a brick wall. The two blocked Jayden’s path, forcing him to stop.

"Yo, Jayden," Brenner called out, voice sharp but calm. "We need a little chat."

Jayden kept his gaze cool, unfazed by the sudden confrontation. "Can’t you see I’m busy?"

Brenner ignored the remark. Malik’s eyes briefly flicked to Paula, who instinctively stepped slightly behind Jayden.

The tension was undeniable... They were amazed seeing him with Paula when he actually meets Camilia.

A playboy indeed...

"It won’t take long," Brenner hesitated before continuing. "Think of this as... friendly advice. From higher up."

Jayden raised a brow. "Higher up?"

Malik folded his arms, muscles flexing beneath his sleeves.

"From Camila’s father. Heston Frost," he said flatly.

’Ah. So that’s what this was about?’ Jayden thought.

"You’ve been getting a bit too close to Camila lately," Brenner said, his tone losing any false politeness. "Her father isn’t very happy about that. He sent us to give you a polite warning."

He paused, letting the silence hang heavy.

"Stay away from her."

Jayden’s lips curved into a small, dangerous smile.

"And if I don’t?"

Brenner’s eyes narrowed. "That would be a mistake."

Jayden chuckled softly.

"No, Brenner. The mistake is thinking you two can come out here and threaten me like I’m supposed to back down. Let me make this clear... If Camila wants to be around me, no one... Not you, not her father, not anybody is going to stop her."

Malik shifted his weight forward, his large frame looming even more intimidatingly.

"You’ve got balls, I’ll give you that. But don’t mistake confidence for invincibility."

Jayden’s eyes glinted coldly, as he gave a sharp stare.

"And don’t mistake your size for strength, Malik. If you think you can handle me, try it."

The air grew thick, tension rising.

Pedestrians nearby slowed their pace, sensing something was about to go down. Some started recording with their phones.

The luxury district rarely saw open confrontations like this. Even Paula grabbed Jayden’s arm.

"Jayden, maybe we should..."

But it was too late.

Brenner struck first.

His right hook came fast, clearly meant to catch Jayden off guard. But Jayden’s reflexes were razor-sharp now. His Combat Attribute had risen significantly after completing his one of the latest tasks, and his body moved almost instinctively.

He ducked under the swing with a sharp pivot and drove his fist into Brenner’s ribs with a solid thud.

How he just swiftly did that? Jayden didn’t know.

All he knew was that he made an effort.

Brenner gasped, stumbling back two steps.

Malik roared and charged in next, aiming to grab Jayden by the neck. But Jayden sidestepped cleanly, grabbing Malik’s wrist and using his momentum to pull him forward. Then, with a swift knee to the gut, he made Malik double over, coughing violently.

Jayden didn’t stop there.

As Malik staggered forward, Jayden clenched his fists, stepped in, and delivered a vicious uppercut that snapped Malik’s head back. His towering frame wobbled for a second, and then the big man collapsed like a falling tree.

The crowd gasped audibly, followed by intense shouts of shock and amazement.

In a moment, Brenner recovered and lunged again, face twisted in rage. This time, Jayden didn’t bother dodging entirely. Instead, he parried Brenner’s punch with his forearm and drove his elbow into the side of Brenner’s jaw, causing a crack that was loud enough for everyone nearby to hear.

Brenner’s knees buckled, but Jayden grabbed him by the collar before he could fall completely.

He brought his face close, voice cold and firm.

"Let this be my answer to your little ’warning.’ If Camila’s father has more of you to send, tell him to send them all. I’ll gladly break every one of you."

Jayden released him with a shove. Brenner collapsed to the ground next to Malik, both of them groaning in pain.

The area fell into an eerie silence.

People stared, clearly stunned.

Paula stood frozen behind him, her eyes wide with disbelief. This wasn’t the Jayden she knew... The calm, smooth-talking charmer who spoiled her with gifts. This was someone entirely different.

Dangerous.

Powerful.

Even the security guards from nearby stores hesitated to intervene.

Jayden calmly turned back to Paula, as if nothing had happened, his breathing steady.

"Sorry about that, beauty," he said with a small smile, adjusting his shirt like he hadn’t just taken down two grown men. "Shall we go?"

Paula could barely speak, but she nodded silently, clutching the bags closer to her chest.

Jayden opened the car door for her, and they drove off, leaving Brenner and Malik lying on the pavement as murmurs spread across the street.

Then...

[You have triggered a rise in your Combat Attribute.]

[You have gained +5 Combat to your Attributes.]

Jayden gave a wry smile to that.
