Chapter 54: Marksman Arrow I
Ryuen woke up to the sound of the system notification buzzing softly in his ears.
He exhaled, rubbed the sleep from his eyes, and sat up.
His thoughts drifted to the bow and arrow Yuki had asked him to carry.
And he did—even though he didn’t know how to use one.
On normal days, blade-type weapons were easy to use, but using a bow and arrow felt challenging.
It was like using a sniper rifle, but instead of pulling a trigger, he had to draw a string to fire the bullet.
And that would be slow—slower than a sniper.
However, his mind was already set on the journey ahead.
First, he needed to get moving and stop being sluggish.
Unfortunately, like every morning, his body decided to betray him by feeling weak.
But then, he was determined—determined to go to Mirath, get Yuta out of there, and carry out his revenge.
Haruka was first on his list.
He would make sure she felt the pain he had felt.
Even if he couldn’t kill her yet, he would torture her first—then kill her.
There was no point in protecting the smile of someone who didn’t deserve such a thing.
Now, he had his sister. He had Yuta.
And that was all that mattered.
He swung his legs off the bed, his bare feet touching the ground, instantly making him aware of his surroundings.
He got up and went about his morning routine.
He cleaned up, trimmed his hair, and dressed in his usual style—a white button-up shirt and black trousers.
He slipped the phone Kaori had given him the previous night into his pocket for connection.
As he made his way to the kitchen to grab something to eat, a knock came at the door.
His brows furrowed.
Who would be at the door?
Kaori and Daiki wouldn’t be around.
However, the moment he opened the door, his gaze fell on Yurei.
She wore glasses and was covered with a blanket that concealed every part of her body except her face.
She raised her head to look at him, squinted to get a better view of his face, and then scoffed.
"Why are you here?"
Ryuen frowned slightly. "What do you mean by that? This is where I live."
Her brows rose. "This is where I live."
"I think you lost your way. Maybe you can’t see properly with those glasses on. This is my sister’s apartment—so go to your apartment."
He shut the door, only for her to stop it halfway and step inside.
He watched her from the corner of his eye as she walked toward the bedroom hall.
Then, she entered the empty room across from his.
"Hm?" He hummed and followed her into the room, only to see bandages on the ground—just like last time.
"You... Wait, how long have you been here?"
"Since Kaori and I met at Vanguard," she replied, picking up a new roll of bandages.
"How long have you been here?"
"Not too long. You were the one who opened the door for us the day I arrived,"
Ryuen explained, still unhappy with the fact that she was living in the same house as him.
She simply shrugged.
"Seems like fate brought you to me," she uttered and stepped into the bathroom.
Ryuen didn’t answer. Instead, he scanned the room.
It had a simple design—just a bed, a table, and a mirror beside it.
Aside from that, the only extra thing in the room was the pile of unwrapped bandages at his feet.
They weren’t stained, just used.
Then he realized—they weren’t actually bandages. Well... not entirely.
He bent down to feel the material better with his fingers and scoffed.
"Paper and cloth, huh?" he thought, confused by the textile.
He wondered how someone could combine paper and fabric to make something like that, but he wouldn’t deny—it was smart.
Breathable, yet still served its purpose.
Soon, Yurei stepped out of the bathroom, fully wrapped in fresh bandages.
Wearing sneakers and the same style of shirt as yesterday—except this one was green.
She threw on a black coat, and Ryuen immediately noticed the logo on it.
It was the same one he had seen on Daiki’s coat.
"Is that the guild’s uniform?"
"Yes, you’ll get yours on our way to the gate," she answered without sparing him a glance.
She took off the glasses she had worn earlier, placed them in a case, then brushed a few strands of hair over her face with her fingers.
Finally, she turned to him. "Why are you still here, by the way?"
"Just stunned. Didn’t think someone like you would live in a place like this."
"Don’t assume things you’re not sure about, Ryuen," she said as she walked past him, carrying that same familiar sweet scent from earlier.
Instead of smoke.
Ryuen followed her out.
Upon arriving in the kitchen, he grabbed the apple he had placed on a plate before going to check on her, then left the house.
He cared little about her tagging along.
But he did care about his living situation.
If he was going to stay in the city, he needed to find his own place.
Far away from people.
But close enough to Kaori to keep a good eye on her.
Once outside, he leaned against the railings and took a bite of the apple.
He savored the taste for a moment before pulling out his phone.
Not wanting to waste time, he dialed Daiki’s number and raised the phone to his ear.
"Hey, Daiki. Can you help me find another apartment? Close enough to my sister’s place but far enough from this situation?"
Daiki chuckled on the other end. "Already having issues with your new teammate?"
"You have no idea," Ryuen muttered, raising a brow.
Since Daiki also lived in the same building, he must have known what it was like.
"I’ll see what I can do. But first, let’s focus on the dungeon run."
"Fine," Ryuen exhaled, disconnecting the call.
He turned back to Yurei.
"Let’s go."
