Chapter 37: Damage Control
Chapter 37: Damage Control
As the door slowly creaked open, the figure of Nathira stood outside the room.
Her gaze hardened the moment she saw a woman atop Arthur.
The faint scent of poison and antimagic lingered in the air, so without needing anyone to explain, she immediately understood what had happened.
Arthur had been rap**.
Arthur, meanwhile, curled his fingers slightly.
His muscles remained taut, not just from the remnants of pleasure, but from the abrupt withdrawal of antimagic and the fear of what Nathira might do to Anna.
Nathira inhaled deeply, slow and steady breaths filling her lungs, before stepping into the room and shutting the door behind her.
With a flick of her finger, his trousers were pulled onto his body, and he was gently lifted into the air.
"Nathira, it isn’t her fault. Yes, she did kidnap me, but I also gave in to temptation."
Nathira neither smiled nor frowned.
She remained utterly blank.
"I waited so long to be your first, Arthur. Tonight was supposed to be our special night together but she ruined it."
She turned toward him with lifeless eyes. "Do you want to tell me that I shouldn’t kill this bitch now?"
Arthur averted his gaze.
He didn’t know how to respond.
The guilt gnawed at him, but he couldn’t let Nathira commit murder.
Not just for himself or Anna, but for Nathira’s own sake.
"Please, Nathira... don’t kill her," Arthur pleaded.
Nathira clenched her jaw. ’Why is he stopping me?’
She wanted to end Anna. No, she wanted to break her, reduce her to a beast and make her life unbearable.
But if it was for Arthur...
She turned back to him, a literal heart shape flickering in her eyes.
"Will you do anything I ask?" she whispered, lowering his suspended body until their eyes aligned. "If you agree, as the first wife I’ll cover this up."
Arthur shook his head. "I’ll do whatever you want, but don’t hide it from them," he said, turning away.
Nathira smiled faintly. ’He hasn’t changed a bit.’
She nodded. "I’ll find a way to explain it to them, but they’ll demand more attention from you and get even more possessive. And don’t worry, I’ll teach this little one how to behave."
Arthur shuddered at the idea of Nathira teaching anyone, but nodded. "Then... what do you want in return?"
She lifted her closed hand, then extended one finger. "First," she began, "you have to tell me each time you want to get a new wife."
Arthur stared at her. "What? Don’t you trust me anymore?"
Nathira tilted her head unnaturally. "Huh? Says the man who gained two wives on his first day at the academy."
Arthur quickly looked away. "But I didn’t do anything like that in three years. Shouldn’t that be enough for you to trust me?"
Nathira smiled gently. "No, darling."
Arthur sighed. "Okay."
Nathira extended another finger. "Second. For your first two weeks at the academy, you’re my property. None of the girls can stay with you longer than thirty minutes."
Arthur paused, then nodded. "Fair enough."
She nodded, slightly impressed by how easily he was complying with her demands.
"Last but not least..." She raised her middle finger. "No touching until I give permission. And even then, that little one’s on extended quarantine."
Arthur couldn’t argue, even if he wanted to. He was at fault, and the least he could do was accept her terms.
"I understand."
Nathira smiled again and gently lowered him to the ground.
Arthur exhaled deeply and landed on his backside. ’Things escalated so fast I can’t even remember it all properly.’
He glanced at Nathira as she used a blanket to cover Anna, then vanished, but not before giving him a wave.
Almost immediately, Eric, Cale, and Vicky burst into the room.
"Dude, are you okay?" Eric asked, visibly alarmed.
Arthur hesitated. "Yeah."
Cale let out a long breath. "Glad to hear that. I thought your stalker might’ve killed you."
Vicky furrowed his brow. "Come to think of it, where is the stalker?"
The three of them scanned the room filled with photos, then looked to Arthur, who simply smiled.
"Let’s just say the stalker never existed."
’Or should I tell them a girl obsessed with me assaulted me just to get pregnant? Yeah, no way.’ He shook his head and stood.
Today had been the craziest day of his life. Not even in his wildest dreams did he imagine his first time would end in being rap**.
But there was still something he needed to do before the day ended.
------
As soon as Arthur left the dorm, he encountered Isabella and Amelia. Unlike Nathira, they were filled only with concern, despite having already heard what happened.
Arthur recounted the events again to prevent them from directing their rage toward Anna.
It was his fault as much as hers, even though she had kidnapped and paralyzed him.
After that, he headed toward his next destination.
He had asked Cassie to get him the rune, but according to Nathira, they intercepted her midway, mistaking her for the stalker.
That meant he had to go to the one place she always visited—
The training ground.
------
Arthur pushed open the door to the training area, greeted instantly by the scent of fresh sweat.
Only one figure stood inside, swinging a katana.
Her stance was nearly perfect, though she lacked the elegance his sister Selena possessed.
Then again, he doubted he’d ever meet someone with such graceful swordsmanship.
"What are you doing here, you bastard?" Cassie snapped.
"That’s husband to you," he shot back.
Cassie wore her signature black and white kimono, though it differed from the usual. It was far more revealing.
Its length ended well above her knees, and a long slit extended from her waist to the hem.
It was sleeveless, and the bandages wrapping her chest were visible.
Cassie clicked her tongue. "Husband, my foot." She dropped her katana and walked toward him. "Why didn’t you tell me you already had three wives?"
Arthur turned his face away. "Sorry."
She clicked her tongue again. "Idiot."
Arthur smirked and picked up one of the wooden katanas.
She eyed him curiously. "What are you doing?"
He tilted his head. "Showing you the Formless Sword technique, of course." He grinned. "Or don’t you want to learn it?"
She flinched, her face heating up as though he’d just insulted her. "Don’t mock me. Why would I want to learn from you?"
His head tilted further. "Because I’m the only one who knows it."
She faltered. "I know that, idiot..." she muttered. "Just get on with it already."
’Her reactions never get old.’ Arthur grinned.
"First, I’ll teach you the basics."
She sighed. "Even I know that much."
Arthur didn’t reply.
He channeled a blue aura into the wooden sword, then stood upright, blade raised high above his head.
He reduced the aura, then increased it again, lowering his stance in a smooth motion as if drawing a blade.
Cassie’s eyes widened.
She had seen her father use the Formless Sword before he died. It was how she learned the foundations of her technique.
But this—
This was the real thing. The fluidity, the stance, the control. It was exactly like her father’s.
"Wow..." she murmured as Arthur cleanly split a wooden dummy in half.
Her eyes glowed as she mimicked his movements, channeling mana just like he did.
Arthur knew.
Even if Cassie didn’t possess his Sword God Authority or Selena’s Invisible Authority, her sword aptitude was still formidable.
Plus, she had a natural feel for the Formless Sword.
Cassie’s expression turned focused as she lowered her stance, gripping the wooden katana tightly, then mimicked an unsheathing motion.
Immediately, the remaining half of the dummy split again.
There was no huge mana release, no visible motion from the initial stance.
It was the Formless Sword, a strike unseen by the naked eye.
Cassie beamed. "I did it!" She grabbed Arthur by the sides. "Did you see that? I did it! The sword went like foosh, and I was like vroom, and the dummy just split! "
Arthur swayed as she shook him from side to side. "Yeah, I saw it." f .r e\ewebnov(e)(l).c om
Realizing what she was doing, she released him, her cheeks flushing bright red.
She cleared her throat. "Thank you, I guess."
Arthur’s eyes lit up as his teasing instincts took over.
"Sorry, I didn’t catch that?"
Her blush deepened. "Thank you, okay?"
Arthur nodded. ’If I push more, she might use that Formless Sword on me.’
She coughed again. "You’re starting classes tomorrow, right?"
Arthur turned from admiring the wooden sword. "Yeah."
She hesitated before asking, "Can we train like this every evening?"
Arthur pondered. "Only if you call me husband during training and do whatever I say."
Cassie looked away, then nodded. "Husband..."
Arthur grinned. "Doesn’t it make you so happy calling me that?"
Cassie’s temper flared, but she suppressed it. "Yes. It makes me happy."
Arthur blinked in shock. "No way... Did you just agree?" He stepped back dramatically. "Are you really Cassie?"
"Obviously, idiot."
『Cassie’s affection for you has reached 70%』
"So you do like me?" he asked without thinking.
Cassie’s face turned crimson as she stormed out of the training hall.
Arthur sighed. ’This is exactly how I keep getting myself into trouble.’ He paused, his expression growing serious. ’Looks like I’ve got a new system mission.’
