Chapter 48: The Gravity Run

Several hours later.

Finally, the testing of Affinities concluded. And though the Dean and other influential figures wanted so badly to rush down and shake the hand of the generational-level genius, they had to hold themselves back.

There was still the 2nd Part of the Trial left, and so as not to disgrace tradition, they had to continue being patient.

Coughing to clear his mind and calm his nerves, Dean Lionheart spoke while trying his best not to stare at the young boy being shamelessly coddled by his sister on the Gorge’s floorbed.

"Of those of you who partook in the 1st Part of the Trial, only 28,936 remain. Those who failed will be asked to quietly leave the testing area, else... you’ll be removed by force."

The coldly threatening words of the lion-maned man sent shivers down the spines of everyone present.

Those who failed and still had thoughts of resisting the outcome no longer had those thoughts; a Grandmaster Mage was no joke, each capable of raining down god’s fury for hundreds of miles in every direction. None wanted to get on the Dean’s bad side.

"As for those of you that passed the 1st Part of the Trial with at least a single Element of Mid or above Affinity Quality, you’ll be asked to take on the 2nd Part of the Trial. The—"

"—Gravity Run."

Briefly interrupting the Dean’s speech for Jin was the voice of his system, as well as the organization of once unfamiliar knowledge within his mind and spirit.

[Your Understanding is Against-Heaven. By touching and continuously contemplating on the qualities of an ’Elemental Affinity Tester Object,’ you have expanded upon your comprehensions of Analysation. You have brought into existence the Late-Innate Ability ’Elemental Affinity Sight.’]

’Interesting...’ Jin mused to himself before continuing to listen to the menacing man floating in mid-air, clearly using an advanced spell derived from the Air Element.

"The Second Part of the Trial that will decide if you’re a fit for Moon God Academy or not will be based on how far you can journey into the Gorge. Reaching deeper depths will increase your chances of entering the Academy, but it will also be based on factors such as your age."

"Will, Talent, and Perseverance will be key for this Trial."

"What I mean by will and perseverance is how far you’re willing to push yourselves to march through a Gorge affected by gravity-increasing spells placed by Great Grandmasters of past generations. On the other hand, talent is how many Elements you have an Affinity for, what proficiency they’re at, and their quality; all of the above will lessen the impact the increased gravity will have on you."

"So will and talent. That is what will determine your results in this final part of the Trial.

"You’ll understand what I’m talking about once this part of the Trial officially begins, which will be..."

"...Right now!"

"!!!" "!!!"

With little time to think, the tens of thousands of youngsters darted from their positions, passing by the Affinity Balls and the teachers on standby. Only a few, who were confident in themselves, didn’t immediately dart toward the endless depths of the Gorge.

The truly confident, who also happened to be the most talented, were also very interested to see what their biggest competition would do next.

Namely, what Jin planned to do.

However, after some minutes of trailing behind him at a leisurely pace, the geniuses wondered what his play was here. They also began to deliberate their choice to stay behind and wait.

After half an hour.

"Is the Crown Prince really just going to walk through the whole Gorge without speeding up at all?? The gravity is already at times ten, but there are plenty up ahead who are enduring above times one hundred gravity. I really can’t afford to linger in the back any longer."

"Same..."

After an hour.

"I’m leaving. The Crown Prince has obviously gotten cocky just because of his talent, and though he may be heading straight for doom, I don’t wish to join him."

"Same. The Crown Prince is too arrogant. He’s still a young kid as well; even with his talent, how far is he actually going to be able to go?? He’s just wasting his and our time by being so nonchalant!"

After some more hours, with many contestants having already reached their limits, only Jin and two others were lagging toward the very back.

Surprisingly, besides the possessive Merida, there was also another beautiful girl sticking close to the three-person group.

’Eira, I believe her name was; why is she staring at me like that?’ Jin pondered while taking casual step after the next. Merida was hovering over him, her voluptuous breasts hanging over his head as she stared daggers at the black-haired icy beauty.

"Why are you still here!? Go away!" Merida repeated something she had said probably ten times in the last hour. A scary aura surged every time she said it as well.

Yet Eira was unmoved, same as all the times before.

"You..." Merida seethed; she ground her teeth while glaring at the icy girl not much younger than she was.

Ignoring her, Eira focused her round, crystal-clear eyes on the peculiar-looking boy walking some distance ahead.

"Is something the matter?" Jin asked without turning his head. Simultaneously, his Against-Heaven’s Understanding rapidly churned, comprehending the existence of those around him as well as the Gorge itself.

Even gravity couldn’t escape his ludicrous ability to comprehend.

With keen interest, Eira stared at the listless boy.

"You’re strong," she stated, an inexplicable glow burning within her gaze.

"Hmm?" Jin arched a brow, yet still didn’t turn around to face her. "Why do you say that?"

"I... can feel it."

"You can feel it, can you?" Jin smirked. "Then can you tell exactly how strong I am?"

Eira went silent.

Even Merida, who was still silently cursing her, wasn’t sure of the answer to this question.

Logic would dictate that the Crown Prince, who had just reached the widely recognized age of Element Awakening, would be incredibly weak. If anything, he might be a little bit stronger than your average mortal.

But for some reason, both of the girls, as well as the Dean and a few other of the Academy’s most important figures, thought differently.

Their thoughts leaned more toward the illogical.

Even so, there was no way Jin’s strength exceeded the Mage Realm. After all, he was only 7 years old, and unless he started cultivating straight out of the womb, how could he possibly surpass a Mage...?
